The time has come and we have finally Followed the River and met him to finalize our romance. It has to led to quite an interesting experience that I’m not going to forget.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world RPG that I have co-created. As I love talking about design, storytelling, and psychology in games, I have started streaming on Twitch and discussing it all with my audience.

My goal is to share everything I have learned over a decade in the AAA games industry, openly exchange ideas, explain creative decisions and encourage the next generation of game designers and storytellers to create.

  1. Yo Pawel! Thought just crossed my mind. So, I replayed The Witcher 3 a few months ago, and one thing that stood out to me was the fact that blacksmith shops were really important as they needed to visited fairly often because they maintained and repaired your gear, which kept their stats high, and that's something Geralt could only do if he had the necessary repair tools in his inventory. Such a neat RPG mechanic. I thought it'd be really cool if weapon degradation was a thing in CP2077… because think about it… how many times in your 100+ or so hour playthrough have you visited gunshops so far? 😉 Almost not at all.

Obviously, a skilled techie like you (since you have level 20 Crafting) , you'd be able to repair your own gear easily with minimal crafting component cost. But say you didn't spec into crafting.. or you simply didn't have enough crafting components to repair your gear.. paying a gunsmith at a shop some eddies to repair it for you would be so immersive. What I'm trying to say is.. having played TW3 again, I've noticed many little RPG elements like this, that CP2077 could also share, since they are quite similar games. And Geralt and V also share some similarities.. both take contracts that they need to prepare for! 🙂

Have a good day and thanks for the awesome and funny stream, once again!

  2. At the risk of sounding old, you are a good egg, Pawel. You care, are passionate about doing a great job, and strive to be the best in your field. Yet, you don't take yourself too seriously and don't mind people poking fun at you (sex scenes VA, memes, death count, etc.). I hope the aspiring game developers watching your stream not only learn from your knowledge and skillset but also from your attitude. You have high standards for yourself (and I imagine for the people working with you as well) but you are still a servant leader. It's possible to strive for the best and still be a good guy, and you are proof of that.

  3. The scene with River with the view at the city from the side reminded me about one curious detail, so I wonder is it coincidence or was made intentionally.
We say farewell to every major character in this story(who has his own arc of the quests), being at those moments outside of Night City. In case with Judy – V sits with her in the early morning, when she finally makes her final decision about leaving the city. And it’s dawn – like some kind of metaphor for the new beginning for her.
When V leaves the city with Panam – they look at it from the dam, and then literally ride into the sunset, like as it should be for nomads. And they meet the night on open air – out of «chains» of the city. Probably, the only moment in the game which demonstrates the glimpse of real freedom for both of them.
With River we are placed on the outskirts of NC – like he’s between «two worlds» and though he stays – the city hasn’t swallowed him yet. Also it’s deep night outside, when we look with him at the view of the city from the tower, like the indicator that he «belongs» to the city.
Though I haven’t played myself, but I believe the case with Kerry is kinda similar – he parts with V on his yacht which is somewhere between the city and something else – like Kerry himself, the man forged from many different things from modernity and the very old times. He is part of the city as well, but at the same time some old stuff still lives in him – Samurai special performance as example of it.
And the only person with whom we got one of the crucial final scenes inside the city is Johnny Silverhand. He’s one of Night City Legends, and his fate is connected with the City – even in his afterlife. And when V sits on the rooftop, thinking about final decisions in this story – we are in the very heart of this city – as it can’t be in another way for Johnny.
I am well aware that perception of many quests and the game itself extremely depends on the person and some additional unobvious factors, which we rarely think about like life experience, ability to put yourself in the shoes of the protagonist, reflection on life-related topics, etc. Even my assumption works well only for leaving with Aldecaldos and having Panam as a partner.
Probably, my ill mind overthinks these particular details, but I find them as natural subtle addition to the fate of every character.

  5. Great stream im currently doing all the unmarked quests in witcher 3 velen took around 80 hours. skellige is great finding quests my self . Just wondering why you guys decided to mark all the quests on the map in Cyberpunk? I Know most games do this Witcher 3, RDR2, Fallout4, Kingdom Come and BOTW same to be the only games last gen that did not mark everything on the map. Im wondering if players are more engaged when everything is marked as the vast majority of open world games on Ps4 had everything marked on their map. Wondering if there's any data to show if more people perfere having everything marked rather than finding it themselves or if its just to do with devs not wanting players to miss anything in their game.
