Cyberpunk 2077 was meant to be our saviour, delivering us from an awful year and providing the sort of escapism that doesn’t break every 5 minutes because we made the daring decision to walk in a straight line for 20 seconds. CD Projekt Red had long ago won over the hearts of gamers with their series of Witcher video games, in particular The Witcher 3, considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all time. A rare company that seemed to genuinely respect its customers, gamers were consistently lathering them with praise and money, and it seemed they could do no wrong. So when CD Projekt Red released Cyberpunk 2077 in a barely-finished, bug-riddled state, was it simply a case of exceptionally bad luck? Or did Cyberpunk 2077 really have a disastrous development from start to finish?

  1. You're breathtaking! You're all breathtaking! But you could harness this ability to steal people's breath for your own nefarious purposes – subscribe and I will teach you the ways. 2. Hmmm, can't say this video added much new info to the overall discourse, sadly.
I was kinda hoping to hear some new relevations.

I personally think they scrapped major parts of the story and gameplay in 2018 when they made Keanu Reeves central to the story – notice how many choices you could make in the first big mission with Maelstrom. Then realise how many other quests allowed you that typical RPG freedom – exactly, zero .
I am almost certain they made this mission for the E3 2018 Demo, then quickly realised they couldn't provide so many alternate paths for other missions with their remaining development time.
Managment supposedly didn't really know where to go with the game and kept meandering around while the devs grew increasingly nervous.

It's a shame, really. So much potential, squashed.
I feel that I and many others expected that level of freedom from the E3 demo for at least the major quests. What we got was….a lot less than that.

  3. I'm so glad I watched this. It's really hard for me, because I love the game like an abusive girlfriend, and there were so many who were just shiting on the game. But this, this is awesome. 9/10
