Cyberpunk 2077 – Ray Tracing Comparison (featuring Ray-Traced Global Illumination, Ambient Occlusion, Shadows (Sun and Moon), Reflections), RTX ON vs OFF running on an RTX 3080.

Settings maxed out. Scenes either in Native or DLSS Quality (static scenes usually native, but DLSS Quality with moving scenes to maintain over 60fps at 1440p)
This is a native ray tracing implementation and not a reshade mod.
Even with real-time ray tracing still being in its infancy, I believe RT will become more important with current and coming generation hardware, so I created this channel with the intention of covering ray-traced games. There are plenty of channels doing mainly performance comparisons, my intention is to focus on the visual aspect and make the differences more obvious to viewers through my videos.

Revisited this game as I am redoing old comparisons where I mainly used screenshots, Control is going to get a new video aswell. Also going to do Ratchet and Clank, aswell as Spiderman: Miles Morales.
Enjoy!
I absolutely love this game. Cannot wait to get back home from deployment so I can add it to my kill counts. Ray tracing is just so beautiful and I can only imagine (and hope) it looks this good in the Witcher 3 when they enhance it for us. 👍👌 great vid as always!
this is one of the best comparisons ive seen of cyberpunks ray tracing. nice job 👍
It showed that Ray Tracing has better shadow than SSAO or HFTS (In Watch Dogs 2) and better ambient light which increase the atmosphere.
Why is there no player reflections?
RT gives an entire new feel to this game! Still getting blown away by it. Also I guess this game has a much larger ray length than dl2. As I can see it go further in the back.
This game is so beautiful with ray tracing. Nice video
A great testament to the studios ability to create a convincing rasterized lighting solution. The differences are clear but for a dynamic day/night cycle they really nailed the look. Great video as always. Something I notice too is the raytracing effects expand much further out than Dying Light 2. Thanks for these amazing comparisons, I LOVE raytracing!
Imo the impact of raytracing is understood best when set against the best rasterization can do, often however the rasterized version falls short and hence the visual gap is wider than it would have to be. Part of the reason is certainly that you cannot polish every single corner of an open world with manually designed effects. 0:04 for instance lacks SSR effects, baked lighting would have improved the scene further, however that may not be possible with this dynamic daytime system. You can see in scenes that likely did get a lot of attention from the designers such as the grand panorama at 3:28 that raytracing's impact is considerably lower. In the end raytracing will outrun rasterization as manually designing an acceptable quality will get more and more time-consuming for the designers, while raytracing is becoming more and more affordable in terms of GPU power, and with us now being at the beginning of a transitioning phase with more things gradually getting handed over to raytracing.
Honestly as much as I love RTGI and RTAO and all that Light/Shadow RT, I feel like unless you're playing an atmoshperique game where lighting and shadows plays a big part of the game it's really not worth the performance hit, RT reflections on the other hand.
Really great content on your channel!
Great editing, love the Synthwave!
It's like 2 different games from a generation apart … Metal surfaces, reflections and lights are incredible different
it looks like the reflections are using a hybrid of SSR and Ray tracing to maintain Performence
Also some screens turn off when They Go off screen in the reflections
Yeh…. but u forget that to run the game in ratracing mode… u need RTX 3070, 3080 cards… even for 1080P
Damn that was pretty, Really nicely made !
Althou the shadows with raytracing look more realistic as they are in reallife, i honestly ain't sure if they are better that way for the video game. I highly recommend to improve those shadows, in some areas are done great but in some they look too undefinitionied. Little improvement there should be done.
I really wanted to see that logo reflecting on a piece of glass.
Reflection in rtx is beauti but to much fps loss. Waiting for rtx 4 or 5000 with rtx.
Man its such a shame that the city is so empty and uniteractive, Imagine if they made the city with the visual quality of CP77 and then filled it with Rockstar interactivity and liveliness, that would be epic.
As a cyberpunk fan, now i hate my gtx 1080 🙂
