Cyberpunk 2077 Review – What The H*** Happened?

It’s one of the most anticipated games ever, but Cyberpunk 2077 is a confused experience that tries to do something for everyone and ends up failing more often than not. There are good pieces here, no doubt, but it lacks coherence and kicks itself in the cyberware every time it glances longingly at greatness.

  1. After putting over 100 hours into the game and finishing it last night I can safely say I agree on a fair few points, once off the leash of the main-storyline the game does feel about as deep as a paddling pool, majority of the side quests are rather bland and uninteresting, but on the other hand there were some that had me hooked from the outset .. only to fall flat on their face come the conclusion.
I played it on the PC at 2k resolution ultra settings , getting between 60-80 fps and I experienced very few bugs, one bug almost killed the game for me but thankfully it resolved itself (And was patched out in the latest update).
That said I still had a fantastic time but I would recommend the game after a few more updates and possibly DLC.

  2. I think CDPR's passion exceeds their talent. They can tell a decent story, although I think this is far inferior to the Witcher 3, but they don't have the ability to create these massive open worlds. The Witcher 3's world was basically an illusion. NPC's didn't react to you at all even if you stole their possessions right in front of them, they basically just stood in place repeating animations, there was very little to do other than play cards, etc. This is even worse. Most places can't be entered, there are no mini games or activities like Gwent, you can't play the arcade games, you can't even sit down and get a bite to eat at the food stalls. Once again, it's just a big fake prop not to mention all of the cut features that have been in game like these for generations. GTA5 released on the Xbox 360 and it had better crowd and traffic AI, customizable cars, 3rd and 1st person camera, public transportation, etc. Even the mediocre Watchdogs felt more like a hackers future. These games are generations old and were made on a fraction of the budget, with a fraction of the staff, and in much less time. There have been 3 Watchdog games made in less time than Cyberpunk has been in development and I had more fun with all 3 of them even if this world is, bugs aside, visually more stunning (as it should be 3 generations of tech later). Their much like Bethesda in that they're basically a AA company that makes AAA money. It's a shame because we might not be getting a game of this type and scale for a long time, if ever. What a shame. And why the hell can't we have a companion with us? You could do that in Oblivion ffs and that game's 15+ years old.

  3. It feels like you reading a story instead of talking to an audience. It's almost like you (or someone else) wrote down some thoughts and you simply read it back. I couldn't finish watching your review, the narration was to monotone to follow. Hope this review helps you moving forward.

  4. Finally found a review that explains how i feel. Been having serious trouble putting my dissapointment of this game into words. We were promised a game akin to new vegas, what we got was much more akin to fallout 4. V is not an open character, i was never expecting much in this department, but whenever V talks without my input, or even when i do have input but none of the options are right, it takes me completely out of it. This is probably due to my own expectations, but the only thing that will make this game good for me is a silent protag and a total dialogue overhaul, it'll depend on how extensive modding support is, but i might just do it myself. I Assume that patching will rectify alot of the issues and missing minor features such as, tattoos, barbers, armor and car customization, especially since it seems they want to go the gta online route with this game. But for me, none of this will fix the game as it is just fundamentally too flawed. I would also like to point out that I dont feel like i had high expectations. I actively avoided any and all cynerpunk content till it gpt released, tje only thing i watched was the 2018 gameplay reveal, ive probs seen it over 40 times, and while the standards definitly seemed high in that video, it also looked like almost all of it was already in place.

  5. This was supposed to be a Role Playing Game where V was the player not a character. It's almost as if the original Deus Ex, Morrowind, or
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines didn't existed. And talking about the original Deus Ex, the game have you playing as a "full fledged" character yet it allows you to do whatever the hell you want and however you want to do it.

How come almost 20 years later and developers are still failing hard with the creation of this type of games while having such amazing examples?

    👍👌So Sad!!!👌👍

  6. Very good review but I would argue that it is a good game, Wide as an Ocean shallow as a puddle is my over whelming after taste playing this and I see the potential it had but this game is like a bare shell of what it should have been.

  7. Excellent review even though I sense a lot of subjective loathe probably due to unrealistic expectations. This game could have been a blast but indeed it builds in solid foundations but fails to deliver truly next gen experiences

  8. I really dislike how certain big YouTubers seem to just dismiss the flaws of the game as just having bugs, when it's so much more than that. Even two weeks after release, there's still some people who aren't talking about the other major issues such as the terrible NPC AI, lack of open world activities and all the uninspired gameplay systems. Are they playing a completely different build of the game where everything just works?

I've been lucky enough to play the PC version without much bugs or performance issues and the very moment I stepped into the city, the first thing I did which I always do with any open world game is screw around in freeroam. And immediately, it all came crashing down on me that this game was unfinished. After about 30 hours and getting close to the ending before uninstalling it, the enjoyment I squeezed out of it was from a couple of combat scenarios in side quests where you clear out areas, certain main missions, driving around the admittedly pretty game world and parkouring around buildings. But everything else is so half baked that even if this game did release bug free and had proper NPC AI, it still wouldn't offer anything revolutionary. The issue is that every trailer, every dev diary on it made it seem like this was gonna be the "next step" in open world games and RPG. That's exactly what they claimed in their promotional work for the game. It just feels like a mishmash of Far Cry, GTA, Dying Light and Destiny, jerryrigged with some lite RPG elements put in. Is this really the game they wanted to build? If so, CDPR aren't exactly the visionaries their fanboys claim them to be. And this is coming from someone who adored TW3.

One of my biggest issues is the lifepaths. I picked Nomad because I really wanted to spend more time outside the city to really build my hype for entering Night City. I thought I'd Mad Max around the desert for the first few hours with Jackie by my side, doing minor sidequests and building MY idea of what V is. And that choice meant nothing after 20 minutes. My issue here is that this was also a feature that was lauded, that you'd really be able to build your character your way, and that your playthrough would be unique from others. There's people here commenting about unrealistic expectations. Can't blame me or anyone else if our expectations of the lifepaths were exactly what the dev promised.

Thanks for the vid. Even if this game released with perfectly fine performance, bug free and with all the systems put in place working as they should, it wouldn't be that special of a game. It still wouldn't be anything that would warrant the years of hype and absolute lunatic fanboy behavior from fans of CDPR.

  9. The biggest disappointment for me is how little choices matter at all levels. Lifepaths don't really matter, dialogue choices don't really matter, build choices don't really matter etc. I feel like a lot of these mechanics are just meant to trick you into thinking a difference is being made. The truth is that any lifepath can achieve 90% of the outcomes, most dialogue options end up at the same results & you spec in any direction & it won't change the difficulty of any particular aspect of the game. You can literally make a body/brawler build & still stealth kill through all the enemies. In fact you can just pick random attributes & perks & it won't stop you from accomplishing anything. I can't believe they advertised "branching narratives" so much & willingly provided a game with no REAL choices

  10. Just one thing: it's not 8 years of development. Apparently the title reveal and a trailer 8years ago was a huge mistake on their part because people keep repeating this. Actual development time was around 4,5y. Still, the game feels like it had many problems during that time, entire systems being scrapped or changed and then it was pushed out in such a state…

  11. Its better than the witcher 3 and that was 10/10 game. I think he acutally thought he was going to jack into the game. Lower you super high expectations. bad review.
