Woooo!
Would be cool to have a discussion on this topic. Typing takes too long. Oh, right, the ads that seem to be floating can't be seen by those without eye implants or the visors. Soooo, the companies can make you see or not see whatever they want…hmm, now that I think about it, I'm sure Maximum Mike stated that in game. Dang.
9:20 adam smasher be like
You should totally make a video highlighting the ancient film Johnny Mnemonic if you ever want to branch out your content.
Man, this was deep. I like that
also keep in mind that night corp was using maelstrom for security so Mr. Blue Eyes is probably working with maelstrom in other ways as well. possibly working to create a rogue AI army?
The planned obsolescence from the corpos is very big business, the corpos flip a switch to kill off the old ware, cybersphychos show up, now new cyberware sales go through the roof
Ghost in the shell: sac, had an arc about getting hacked
Algorithm blesses you
Before I talk about cyberpsycho and how it was implemented and used in the RPG, Mike Pondsmith almost certainly got the idea for it from William Gibson as the original release of Cyberpunk (now known as 2013) had a influences section which included the books of William Gibson (which at the time was just the Count Zero trilogy and the short stories including Johnny Mnemonic), as well as Akira, Bubblegum Crisis and Blade Runner. I think it is in Neuromancer and Mona Lisa Overdrive where you are given examples of people (ex soldiers) going insane due to not coping with their cyberware.
On the RPG itself, for those not aware, if your empathy score hit 0 or less you went cyberpsycho and became an NPC run by the GM. No options, not choices, not get outs. There are situations, including taking damage in combat, where your empathy could be temporarily reduced, so in theory if a character did go psycho then there would be a chance that they could recover …. in time. Obviously this could not be implemented in the computer game, nor the down time for new implants. Unless upgrading existing hardware it is all major surgery with appropriate real world time scales for post operation recovery, so between scenarios.
I've just gone through the 2020 rulebook on cyberwear. For most our characters in the computer game we would have on average 54 humanity loss without weapons, 60-62.5 with – that's 5-6 empathy loss when you have a maximum of 10 and most characters would only have 5-6 unless they wanted to go the real cyber route/frame route, in which case they would nerf other stats to get closer to 10. (you permanently lose 1 point of empathy for every 10 points of humanity loss).
Note for those not aware, the general recommendations for GMs was to either allow their players to roll a D10 for each stat (rerolling 1s and 2s), or split a number of points, 50 for an average person, 80 for a major hero, so normally 60 or 70. There are 9 stats.
Side note. One of the game mechanics to deal with cyberpsychos, including characters turned NPC is MaxTac. For those who want it to be far tougher in 2077 do not wish for it to be RPG game level where they could go one on one with the likes of Adam Smasher (who effectively is MaxTac for Arasaka), but do so in squads, not solo.
I think this video really gave us all a closer look at how our current society mirrors the Cyberpunk universe a lot more closely than a lot of us care to think about. Capitalism really is toxic for humanity.
