Cyberpunk 2077: Keeping a Promise

This video is not a review or a history lesson or tips on gaming. This is something I promised to do years ago when the man I called my brother died suddenly from overindulging in his favorite vices. We were huge Cyberpunk 2020 fans, with me running the game and him playing Officer Mojo Risin, along with a good number of friends. Since we couldn’t play Cyberpunk Red, I played Cyberpunk 2077 using him as my avatar. But I can’t just play as my best friend without sharing the numerous exploits we pulled over the years together. Ryan was not larger than life. Life was smaller than Ryan.

  1. This was a beautiful memorial, and as little that I know of this man, I would have given so much to see that Kick, and would probably have been tempted to send him out like the warrior he was.

    Well done.

  2. Great story brother. Friends are wonderful heartbreaks.

    Nature's first green is gold,
    Her hardest hue to hold.
    Her early leaf's a flower;
    But only so an hour.
    Then leaf subsides to leaf.
    So Eden sank to grief,
    So dawn goes down to day.
    Nothing gold can stay.

  4. Brother, I do not know you, or you me. But across the world, space, and time, I wish you, your best friend, and his family peace, and goodness in all things. Thank you for sharing your pain with us so we can carry Ryan forward from here. He comes with us.

  5. Man I hope you beat the game man because hearing the stories strikes that chord of what the game felt like it was going for, about legacy, friends, family, who we will be remembered as long after we're gone. I lost a lot of family last year so this game hit on a different level since I got into the tabletop setting back in 2013 in much happier (livelier) times. Thanks for sharing the stories, and I hope you enjoyed the game as much as I did man. And thank you for the excellent Cyberpunk videos leading up to it.

  6. A man is not dead until his name is no longer spoken. Ryan 'Mojo Risin'.

    First youtube comment in years, I feel this one is approprate.

    I'll make sure to have him as an NPC in my campaigns where possible.

  7. My brother lived thru two stages of the bad Crab. In the head bit. And as kids we made deals on what to do if anyone would go before the other. This is close to that. And all my respect goes to you Welch. My gratitude for sharing.

  8. It was good hearing his stories, and I feel you. 3 of my early life best friends bit it before I turned 36. One either OD'ed or his heart gave out after a lifetime of self-abuse. One was a bad diabetic and going nowhere in life, so he just stopped taking his medicine. One was a Marine and Memphis police officer who was what we should want all cops to be, and he got shot to death by an asshole on probation doing a drug deal while in possession of a gun he shouldn't have had, and my friend was going to tell him to move the car because he was parked illegally. It's tough realizing that some of your best life stories are only carried by you, the only remaining witness that can talk. This video was the right thing to do.
