Cyberpunk 2077 has had one of the best comebacks in entertainment history. However, with all comebacks, there’s always the initial fall and failure one thing must overcome in order to achieve that comeback. Naturally, Cyberpunk 2077 had a ridiculously botched release that will go down in history. But, looking back at the last 4 years? It’s absolutely one of my favorite comebacks ever.
Like most of these video essays, this took a while to script and edit. Hope you enjoy!!

I know Orion is gonna turn it up to 10 hopefully they’ll be able to add more dnd style elements like baldurs gate but in a cyberpunk fashion
Goated video brother, subbed!
Youre getting me so amped
I’m really happy that CDPR went above and beyond to update and fix Cyberpunk to be the amazing work it is now. So many games nowadays just get ditched for not being initial “success”… with spared updates and cancelling content.
Like you I was lucky and able to play the game launch day with little to no issues. I loved it then and now I can say it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played.
For me, this game will always be the biggest disappointment of the decade because instead of bugs, I have problems with the core elements of the game.
The plot is poorly conducted and uninteresting, learning about the world, gangs, etc. is reduced to a 2-minute intro, it's like reducing the beginning of Harry Potter to 2 minutes and continuing the film from the moment when Harry was already assigned to Grifindor. Act 1 I admits there is a nice quest with Malestrom and the heist is great, plus we have at least a partial introduction to the gangs, which is Mox or Malestrom, something that, in my opinion, should be more developed. Act 2 and 3, however, are, in my opinion, a slippery slope – the whole world, gangs and the player character itself are thrown aside in order to learn about Silverhand's story and his motivation, which is "corporate evil, corporate takes everything from us" even though during the game in fact, the corporation is not doing anything wrong, because Silverhand caused Alt's death through his actions, and V and Jackie died because they decided to rob biggest corpo in CP2077 world. All this means that the player has zero motivation and a complete lack of any negative feelings towards the corporation, because it simply wasn't the corporation that started it. Additionally, although the main plot is not the longest, there are fillers in the game, the most obvious of which is the attack on the power plant in order to capture Hellman. The entire attack takes a good half hour of gameplay, the EMP from the exploding power plant does nothing, so Panam pulls out bazooka from her ass and knocks down the AV. So what was all this action with the power plant for? It was enough to use a bazooka and I don't buy the fact that fucking up a power plant vs. knocking down AV with a bazooka attracts less attention. Additionally, Silverhand's plot, how he takes control of V, etc., is a plagiarism of Joker's plot with minor changes and much worse exectued in CP2077 from Batman Arkham Knight.
Most of the characters are uninteresting because they either lack of time or are just plain boring or annoying. Jackie is someone we should care about, but we spend maybe 2 hours with him at most. Panam is the stereotypical "strong, independent female character" of today most movies and games. She always scream, is rude to everyone, considers herself the smartest and despises anyone who disagrees with her. Silverhand is an annoying asshole with cringy dialogues every two minutes, plus he has his own agenda against the corporations and constantly tries to convince us how bad they are, even though when he tell all this, we become more and more convinced that it's his fault. River is boring, I have nothing more to add. The nomads from the Panam clan, I don't even remember what they wanted or what their names were. V is also uninteresting, because it is a blank card that was prepared to create a personality based on the player's choices, which did not work, as I will mention later. The only interesting characters are Judy and Takemura, apart from Silverhand, who are the only characters with a written backstory and specific goals and reasons why they want to pursue these goals.
The most numerous side quests are GIGS, which are a castrated version of contracts from The Witcher 3. Instead of meeting the client, bargaining, interrogating witnesses, looking for clues as to why and what kind of monster appeared, we have MMO or Ubisoft-style quests that involve go there, destroy/kill/steal and come back for your reward. The rest of the side quests offer something more, but they cannot be called interesting – there is also a quest with a stereotypical plot about a serial killer who found god in prison and the game tries hard to make us like this guy. At the same time, the quest is boring because, as I said, it is stereotypical and Joshua, if I remember correctly, has so little screen time that the player doesn't care about him at all, plus the quest is just walking and talking. The only quests that I remember well are the search for River's nephew, the Peraleza plot and Judy's plot, because thanks to them we get to know her a little better. The rest of the quests are uninteresting or involve uninteresting characters.
The main problem with the gameplay is that there are only 3 types of enemies – those with guns, those with melee weapons and netrunners, who became actual enemies only after patch 2.0, because before that they did practically nothing except pinging. This makes the fight very quickly become boring and repetitive, because you have to fight the same enemies over and over again. For comparison, imagine that in Doom, Dead Space, Mass Effect, Batman or any other game you fight only three types of enemies. Even the bosses are largely the same and recycled throughout the game. With a boss who has a powerloader from Aliens bought from a Chinese dealer on sale, I fought in probably 5 different quests. The only unique boss is Smasher, because he is the only one who not only looks unique, but also has unique attacks. The game is also full of moments when we are only sitting in the passenger seat. Combine this with non-existent cinematography, uninteresting plot and dialogues and you will achieve super boring experience, which will make every other thing seem more interesting. The lack of cutscenes also negatively affects the presentation of the story instead of some epic action, when we have a break from playing we just stare at other characters with poor facial animations. The lack of TPP and cutscenes also makes the face creator completely useless, because we only see our character in the inventory screen, which we enter only to change weapons in slots. The lack of importance of choices practically completely disqualifies 2077 as an RPG game. The plot is linear and most of the dialogue tree and choices are useless because they add nothing to the game. The only choice is the one at the very end of the game where we choose an ending in the style of Far Cry 3 and not even previous CDPR games where the choices influenced the progress of the plot, future quests and shaped the ending of the game. Crafting has been made very shallow compared to The Witcher 3 – instead of going to the appropriate NPCs who craft items, V can open a window in the middle of the street and craft items. Exploration is also not worth it, because we do not find any unique items, as was the case in The Witcher games, where we could find recipes for improving potions or diagrams for unique armors that were aimed at a specific character build.
As a fan of The Witcher games, I was very disappointed with such a drop in quality in CP2077. Honestly, I wonder if CDPR is going down the same path as BioWare since Mass Effect 3, where each subsequent game was worse than the last and most of the developers left over the years and only the company name remained.
Nova video choomba!!!! Keep up the great work!!!!!
I got it day one on Xbox one. Hell, I set my location to New Zealand to play early.
Was it pretty buggy? Yeah. Some missions just gonked out completely like Claire’s races for some reason. But it was still an incredible story and pretty fun to play! I don’t understand why it became SUCH a pariah.
Still the best game ever, stuck with me all this time later, played it over 10 times at this point. It’s so underrated and I wish people could forget the launch and see the beauty of this game
Cyber punk has been such a fantastic game and I am hopeful the next game can surpass its predecessor to be come one of the best games in history as cyberpunk is top three single player game for me
The only annoying part about the Netflix anime with cyberpunk is that we are not getting a physical release of that ever and that is very frustrating to me because I am watching the series right now and it is one of the best anime I have ever seen
i adore this game, have so many hours put into it man
As an normal software developer a understand cd project red , you cant test for everything its so hard to bugs will happen, consoles help allot to mitigate this but pcs are very hard when allot of combinations of graphics and processers makes it allot harder for companies to battle test things.
Had this from day one PC of course ironic was timed around the same time I bought and built a new machine. I had seen the promo videos such as the one you showed the teaser was what sold me, but I also knew that it had to be tempered with realism about what to expect. Maybe age life experience so on taught me that it's best to hope for what you will get but prepare to accept it might not be all it seems. Saw the reveal was impressed watched waited and then hoped it would go well… And of course it did not. I've seen what a mess it was in from the start, I mean what a poor launch and that's from someone who had hardware more than capable of running it.
Heard about the death threats, was really not impressed and to me was a really sad that people could go to that level given the work involved. It crashed and burned on launch but nothing was of issue for bugs and apart from one messed up save but never had that happen again.
Give the Dev Team credit for fixing it over the last 3 years must have been a massive headache, but it was done I applaud those people who did that there was no obligation but did it anyway. Saw Edge Runners that was a Phoenix Rising From The Ashes moment and I knew it was worth the pain it had gone through. PL was great just added another layer to the game on top of the rest of it I would say that my own play runs are in some cases over 200hrs per life path.
As a PC player, the fact you can mod the game adds even more to it, and that will likely have me playing it for years to come.
Bloody good game.
You said towards the start of the video that Cyberpunk 2077 was based off of the tabletop RPG Cyberpunk Red. That is incorrect as Cyberpunk Red didn't release until 2021. It was based off of an earlier version entitled Cyberpunk 2020.
I love this game
I just started playing CP77 around a months ago. So I'm really really late because I don't like shooters. And I don't say that I'm super good in the game, but I love this game as much as I loved The Witcher 3. And I played that game from the release on for years, over and over again. And I'm sure, that I will do the same with CP. I only have a gaming laptop with a RTX 4050, but the game runs flawless in 1080 and max setting. That alone shows, how much CPR improved the game. And I really wished I played the game in it's early stages. Because many of the playthroughs I saw on Youtube in which they played in the earliest patch verions, the games looked in parts even cooler. But yeah, I think they did a really great job with this game.
What's the name of the slow music melody in the beginning? It's beautiful
Loved your review! Just started to play CP2077, altough I have it since the release… Now the game finally got me. 🙂
How TF did you not experience bugs on Xbox one s? I played there first and was a terrible experience 😅
You're being a little hyperbolic there 😅 I love cyberpunk 2077 in it's final state and it's great that you love it too 😁 but let's not get carried away here, I mean, one of the most revered games of all time? I don't know about that bro, good video though
I remember being interested in the concept when the teaser was released. I didn't keep up with the news and bought it for the ps4. Let me just say, that wasn't a good experience. I never made it to the heist. Last year I was finally able to get a ps5 and found out the system can upgrade some games to the ps5 version, so I I decided to give Cyberpunk another try. Now it has become one of my favorite games of all time. I even found myself playing multiple play throughs trying to experience everything that Night City has to offer.
Stole the relic from Arasaka, assumed to have assasinated Saburo, encountered the Boogeyman and almost survived. Either hes just that dumb or his balls are just that HUGE.
It is my favorite game of all time. A cohesive one of a kind story with top-tier graphics, quests, voice acting, style, music, and gameplay. It's just a crescendo of so many things working flawlessly in concert. I wish I could erase my memories of it to play it again for the first time. I cannot wait for Cyberpunk 2.
Great video. And I have to say I love the game and I like most of the updates. Not a fan of the constant perk changes and I was not a fan of the clothing and weapons changes. Especially reducing the clothing to pointless cosmetics which actually kind of breaks immersion. Alot of the fabrics used in the clothing is soft body armour materials reinforcing the out of control violence that even your pants suits for corpos is light body armour.
my main takeaway from this video is i really hope you dont have a drivers license
I love the word of cyberpunk, being able to augment yourself to the point where you’re a cybernetic god. Plus the story and characters have so much depth. I finally decided to play it this year because I was craving something, not expecting to get sucked in because when I tried it before I just didn’t get it? But now? My god, it’s the only thing I’ve really been thinking about. If it’s not the lore, then it’s the endings. If not that it’s thinking about the story’s and characters that are so unique. The fact is that it’s completely gripped me to the point that I even watched the anime again and fell in love all over again. The philosophy and the moral choices you’re forced to make, how there isn’t really “good” endings. I believe this is one of my top games now lol.
