CD Project Red’s CYBERPUNK 2077 has arrived, not with a bang but a whimper. Yet some players hold out hope that, once fittingly patched and updated, there’s still that fantasy next-gen game in here worth salvaging. Could it be that we were all dupes for believing such a game from this developer was possible?

In this review with minor spoilers, I give my assessment of the game – playing, as I did, on PC. I explain what the game does right, does wrong, and why ultimately, there’s a big degree to which Cyberpunk 2077 will never be saved.

“Cyberpunk 2077 is a role-playing game by CD Projekt RED. It was announced on May 30, 2012 during CD Projekt’s Summer Conference live-stream. The development team includes veterans of The Witcher and The Witcher 2 teams at CD Projekt RED.

Not much has been revealed about the fundamental gameplay, but CD Projekt has shared a few details. Players will be able to create and customize their own characters including different classes, which are said to impact the story. Both the story and structure of the game will be non-linear. The game will use a combination of both first person and third person views.

Multiplayer features are also confirmed; however, the developer claims that it will nevertheless be a “story-based RPG experience,” with “amazing single-player play-throughs.”

CD Projekt Red have confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will be made using REDengine 3, the same engine used for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

During E3 2018 CD Projekt RED announced that the game will be a shooter played from the first-person perspective, shifting to third person during cutscenes. There will also be an option to switch to a third person camera when driving. A work-in-progress gameplay video was released to the public in August 2018.

Cyberpunk was officially released December 10, 2020. After a rocky launch, on December 17, 2020 Sony Interactive Entertainment removed the game from their storefront and began offering unconditional refunds to all purchasers. Industry insiders described this as “unprecedented” and “a huge yikes.”‘

  1. I just want to mention that cyberpunk works flawlessly on Stadia, just need a good internet connection (ethernet cable is a must) I've not encountered any of these bugs apart from frame drops and flying 300 metres away when I try to climb a window.. give it another chance on Stadia trust me it performs as advertised

  2. "15k views.."

Glad you're getting noticed. I loved your essays on the MGS series. I may not agree 100% with everything you say, but that's a good thing. Fantastic video as always.

  3. WRONG. Over 100 hours on this game already and NO bugs bar a few minior UI glitches that have since been fixed. This is on the PC version with a computer that handles high settings without raytracing. So mid range computer, stable 50 fps at all times on high settings. Have had more bugs in my 5 hour playthrough of AC Vahalla on PC then i have in my 100 hours of CP2077. Game just needs time to patch last gen and fix a few issues. If this was a Ubi-soft EA or bethesda title there would not be such a fuss.

  4. This should be/been a live service type of game. Hate to say it, but like gta5 with the updates and upgrades. Still very early in the life of the game, and the official ps5 release isnt out which I'm suspecting they'll hold off until next year holiday time. They said multiplayer could be a thing, well now morph that idea into updating the single player game consistently first. Or hell finish it.

Great ass story, minus Keanu in some spots, and beautiful as any next gen game, started on base ps4 and just finished on a ps5 working on the plat. The upgrade is very much needed, but problems still there on a ps5.

Its skyrim all over again. I feel like cdpr can turn it around if anything.

  6. All the biggest gripes the uploader has with Cyberpunk are the very things, I and very many others love about the Cyberpunk Genre.

Cyberpunk is a form of fictional, with sometimes fantasy elements.

    Cyberpunk IS NOT Sci-Fi

The game Cyberpunk nails the genre perfectly. (The state of the game is another matter.)
What you seemed to have expected from Cyberpunk was a Sci-Fi world, which Sci-Fi is often a finctional attempt to predict the future.
Cyberpunk is often a blend of everything cool, dystopian, and techy.
It doesnt have to be a look into the future anything like that.

Funny enough, its not uncommon to find things like magic or Dwarves, Elves and Orcs in a Cyberpunk universe, just not this Cyberpunk universe.

  7. Most players dont care if the game is "Punk" or what idos it should kill. They wanted a new GTA like game in a new exiting setting. And boning NPCs. And CDPR failed in the open world part. The scripted missions and city design stand out and are nice. But the interactive sandbox content is either lacking or unfinished.

  8. Johnny Silvercrap's story and developer time dedicated was a total waste. I had no love for him or his character.
I wish they had spent the time and resources to create better side mission and characters. More features as they had promised instead of going on a ego trip with Keanu (the story was derailed with last years confirmation he would come aboard. they changed the story and narrative to acommodate his character).

  10. Tbh I'm bored stiff after about 12 hours of wandering around what is to all intents and purposes an utterly lifeless world. Brain-dead NPCs, idiotic vehicle AI, tedious combat, uninspired 'hackin' ; the list goes on and on. What a damn shame

  11. I actually like the game. It's super buggy with strange choices on some of the mechanics and not nearly the revolutionary evolution of games that people hoped it would be. Still, I enjoy the voice acting, dialogue, side quests and story so much that I'm willing to look past all of the negatives. Plus I'm a sucker for any blade runner, akira, ghost in the shell and johnny mnemonic type stuff
