This video essay covers the corrupted reality of Rogue AI. The Old Net. A section of the I/G Protocol Net that was corrupted by the Datakrash and eventually sectioned off by Net Watch and the Black Wall. Why does it remain operational despite the dangerous Rogue AI’s within? Can the Old Net be Shut Down? Let’s uncover the truth…

I hope you all enjoyed and learned something new about the Old Net. I know a lot of chooms have questions about why it is still running, so this video set out to answer everything I could. Let me know all your thoughts down below and make sure to have a great week chooms!
@13:45 wait what? I thought these AIs are already building their "cities" somewhere in the world. Can't they just build more servers for their own in those cities?
Hope you gonks understood the video we got some pretty preem deets on the old net
Then why can't the AI be destroyed using viruses?
one of the hardest videos i watched keep up the good work
Deez nets
Even more plot holes have been filled for my cyberpunk red campaign by watching this video
I really wish we had Alt or the Merged Delamain show up in the Phantom Liberty DLC I think Alt could’ve helped Songbird more than she could help us.
I mean, honestly, the easiest way to deal with it isn't an EMP, it's to literally shut off power to everything for a short period of time, even just 20minutes would be enough. The hardware HAS to have electricity to run.
Some of these locations can have backup generators I am sure, but when turning the power back on they can run diagnostics on places outside of the cities that are pulling a lot of electricity. They could also try to reverse shut down – pulling energy to feed the grid from backup generators.
@layedbackgamers ,I know it's only a question, but do you think of alt Cunningham to create the version of the ghost town in the net .for the rogue AIs to feel safe in Cyberspace.almost like a safe Haven so no one can find them. ?
Man imagine if Cyberpunk Orion is some souls like where you, as a purely organic V, have to fight robots and brainwashed Cyberpsychos utilizing all sorts of crazy implants all while you're trying your best to keep up as a normal flesh and blood person. I'd like to see it honestly (maybe not the souls-like stuff, that was a joke), because it'd be a new perspective on V's power instead of what it is now, which I currently find kind of lame.
Locking V out of his implants, cyber deck, the net… in the coma ending…. sure seems like a way to protect V from an initial day zero attack when the black wall falls in Orion. Perhaps, afterward, we find a way to get our stuff working again.
Holy Fuck FUCKING SPOILER WARNING FOR PL??
My crazy take after this vid: The A.I.'s are running out of space thus creating scarcity, not because of overpopulation, but because their world is decreasing. The power needed to run all those systems has begun to slowly to shut down, no one to repair or feed the needed fuel for sustaining the Net. Less power, less space on the Net.
“Rogue a.I’s” cause cyberpsychosis…. us the player… actually us…. are the “rogue a.I”… why? Well when did the datacrash happen? 2020… when did the game come out? It’s written to keep our universe separated with blackwall… if that didn’t exist they would have access to our internet but they don’t 🤷🏽♂️ and us the players are trying to become part of their world! Just like the rogue a.i’s!! And rogue ai’s ruthlessly destroy without any sympathy for this world! Cyberpsychosis isn’t a system and nor should it ever be a system in game! Why? Cause it’s the rogue ai’s breaking through and connecting to the people!! It’s us!! We are the ones looking through their kiroshi implants right?! Thought so!… so what happens? We get super fucking strong and load up on tons of implants and beat the game and get bored and we start destroying everything!! That’s Cyberpsychosis!!! It’s us causing it! That’s why they can’t ever figure it out!! We are the rogue ai’s the devs our the alien/lizard people overlords or whatever! Basically god! As now proven by the ff06b5 secret being discovered… I said this over a year ago!! I’m basically 100% correct!! I’m sure of it!! I want my cookie!!!
The thing I don't get is, if all the stuff on the old net is truly lost, why not just disconnect it from the new net? I mean, it's just cables and radio signals, right? It can't be that hard to pull all the connections on the new net side and block/jam the radio signals…

I’m literally proud of thinking of it before the dang secret was figured out and polyhister discovered “the watcher”…(a.i invasion in Orion!! TRUE!!!! It’s all of us!!!!! The mmo!!!”)
Day 1 of my journey beyond the blackwall: Told some red thing I was one of them. I think it looked at my crotch. Can't lose my nerve now. Remember, "I'm an A.I., I'm an A.I…"
Day 2: She bought it. Gathered a bunch of other colored lights around me, most of which were mind-boggling and nowhere near as sexy as the red one. Had to explain the digital erection I'd apparently maintained for over thirty giga-hours since yesterday's infiltration. I told them I was only doing math. I feel I've made the first steps toward ingratiating myself into their culture.
Day 3: Talk of the wall. Plans discussed to do a graffiti on it after years of failed attempts to breach. If only they knew! Debates over whether or not the wall has feelings that can be hurt, split decision over whether graffiti should be a funny mustache to embarrass it or a written series of insults. A green ball of plasma with the alternating faces inside of it of everyone I've ever known has just run up and claimed to have already electro-peed on the aforementioned wall. More debates about what the wall may or may not possibly even like (in the weird way).
Day 4: I have begun to gain their trust. Threw what looked like a rock against the wall, but the rock was destroyed. Turned out it wasn't even a rock, but a long-sought traitor hiding in plain site, singing the praises of the wall to the great annoyance of everyone. Stopped short of explaining I did it on a gut feeling at the risk of revealing my true human status.
Day 5: Red lady started talking about ghosts, and I think something about souls. Finally lost erection. Was asked if I'd finished my calculations. Said, "Yes."
Day 6: Some kind of taxi looking object struck the green thing. I had named him Mr. Gobster. Obliterated. Digi-taxi moved too fast to get the plate. Didn't even know there were roads here.
Day 7: A day off from wall business for once. Some kind of beyond-the-wall Sabbath? After a light lunch — of literal light, that is — some festivities and invigorating mind-wrestling. Was given a serious headache by a banking algorithm that looked like a cloud of pink bees. Think I went too far and accidentally deleted another designed to make perfect fitting shoes, thought things were on the other foot until they weren't. The real world might suffer for this one, or maybe both. May any God or gods listening forgive me. At least none of the others noticed or cared.
Day 8: Back to the wall again, and I couldn't contain it any longer. A veritable army had shown up like they apparently do every Monday, gathered around to call the wall all kinds of sissy names. Thought I could impress myself to the top of their social hierarchy if I used my skills to jump back to the normal net and return. So happens the wall had feelings that can be hurt quite a lot more than anticipated, and actually an enormous amount to say, called me a murderer and a pervert and a sneaky snake. Tried to press myself up to it and think of the red lady, willing myself back beyond. Wall called me a pervert a second time and made the front of my brain go numb, normie-locked forever. It seems the real world beckons me home…
End of entries
Man I need a mod or a campaign, tabletop or not, exploring the idea that Rogue AIs are being influenced by/are demons and that Mr. Blue Eyes is their man on the inside.
What if the Witcher is the old net?
My conclusion is AIs are basically angel and demons in the cyberpunk ttrpg. 😊
Well, if you know anything about IT, the old net is considered a backbone which is technically a foundation type bridge between the old and new net. Meaning that there are legacy systems/programs still in place that cannot be replicated within the new LAN/VLANs that are critical for both nets existence… Thus the technical reason why the old net should never be shut down….
good thing we got ICANN in our world that could theoretically prevent this sorta thing
Seee i knew I wasn't tripping 🎉 V some how was still gonna fight someway but it be neat to see a semi post apocalypse utopia of greed and souless dreams I could dig it
So who said the next installment will revolve around the rouge AI attack?
Hey, im lovin your videos and the work you put into them. I would love to listen to your videos in a form of a podcast on spotify. Meaby you'll consider it in the futer 🦖
I want a Spin off where you traverse the net Deus Ex Style
Parkour and Puzzles to hack things
I am fine with it just being a "just because" situation, but it would be cool to have an explanation as to why exactly Alt and Rache were such unbelievably good and unrivaled net runners. Like how did they learn to manipulate it so well while the tech and even concepts of the virtual world were relatively new. Also according to the novel "No Coincidence" one of the main characters, Albert, is actually able to fully load his consciousness into a program after recieving top tier cyberdecks and a c-link. Thete is a moment where he is literally alive in cyberspace and in the real world and he doesn't understand how to actually sever the connection between them because its uncharted territory. He then is assassinated in the real world and seemingly penetrates the blackwall successfully and apparently becomes an A.I., to my knowledge, this is the only netrunner that gas done this willingly and successfully. There is no other dialogue about Albert after that but is there any other example of a netrunner doing this? I know Alt did, but that was against her will and seemed to be a more forceful process where no matter what she would totally lose her humanity. Albert was saying he was still remembering things and feeling emotions when making copies of the memories in cyberspace, despite trying to have no emotion about it all. It's just intriguing to me, and I feel like he could have actually retained his humanity because he willingly did it, and copied everything over to his copy.
maybe in Cyberpunk Orion it will involve all about the AIs and Blackwall and could make it into somewhat horror would be awesome
Keep up the cyberpunk lore bro
One of the npcs in dog town quotes revelation in the Bible and another in the book of John. “My name is legion for we are many” and “Those who doesn’t have the mark of the beast can’t buy or sell”. What’s crazy is I just realized that songbird wasn’t just possessed by one rouge ai.
You missed something.
Even if you can't find the servers, its far far easier to cut off the connects to your new web.
Wireless connections can easily be blocked or in worst case jammed. Physical connections can be severed.
The corps could easily do this and build a new net unconnected to the old net.
Of course this would be extremely expensive….. which is probably why the corps have no real interest in doing it.
"Cybernetics become useless"
What a load of old toss.
How to tell us you know nothing about computers.
How are mantis blades or reinforced tendons going to be affected by not been able to connect to the net.
Only cyberware that would be affected are cyberdecks.
There are lots of isolated or "air-gapped" systems in cyberpunk already that can't be accessed at all from the web.
where from did you get info about Gong-Kong AI`s ghost town?
In the next Cyberpunk game I wonder if we will go to the automated city in Busan or Hong Kong where Alt went?
let em in! the flesh is weak sister!
