OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 Edition: More of this, please!

With OnePlus hitting the headlines with leaks of the OnePlus 9 Pro and Cyberpunk 2077 managing to stay in the news (for better or worse), I’m finally getting around to talking about the Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition of the OnePlus 8T. While this might have the original internals with a super stylized cyberpunk shell, I think this phone is a great (but rare) example of how we should have more special edition tech like this.

  1. I love the game and was able to find all of the UI stuff from this phone on XDA so I didn't get the 8t. I bought the note 20 ultra and made my own custom skin that I themed in the cyberpunk 2077 way. It would be nice to have more options like this but it's not something I see being mainstream any time soon since it has to be released at the same time as some other event in pop culture. Still love this phone so much I made my note a 2077 version 😂 lol!! Great video

  2. Why don't we see this more often?
    Hehehehehehehehe

    Economics, Josh
It is expensive getting a manufacturing process to make a limited run version of a phone…and really anything at all
And on top of that, despite the phone then having to cost more, there is now a huge chunk that has to go to the original IP owner, in this case CDPR
And even if that cut is just a tiny percentage, in the grand scheme of things, every single limited edition phone made is a loss to the company

But also….the appeal of "Limited Edition" is because they are LIMITED

  3. I still have zero interest in the game, Cyberpunk 2077. If T-Mobile had offered the Cyberpunk 2077 edition though. I would have bought one in a heartbeat because of the unique look and style of the device.

  4. And this is why i think that limited edition phones are a hard sell … You pointed out cyberpunk, but, you could had mention McLaren, Lambo, etc.
The BTS thing is only for a niche market. As the limited edition phones and acessories are. They loose appeal after a while.
Unless you have like a Tesla phone that is part of a Model X care package when you buy the car. Something that can be useful, could have a similar design as the model X, so, when people look at the phone, it creates that appeal, It's a Tesla Phone, which means that it works exculsively with Tesla Model X.
Ok, unpopular opinion, but, here's the analogy, i can't a afford a Ferrari, but, i can afford a Ferrari keychain for my actual car. That for me is the point of limited editions.
Put it this way, when, let say louis vitton has a Apple Iphone 12 Pro Max, exclusively designed for Apple, with a custom cover and costs 15 thounsand dollars, has all the bells and whistles, but, It's a Louis Vitton Iphone that can match to their handbag collection. Who would buy it ? Not a regular person, maybe a influencer, maybe some rich millonaires wives, etc., maybe lew from Unbox Theraphy for the kick of it.
What is exactly the point of having a 15 thousand dollar design acessory when you can buy it from the store the same product and costs 10 times under the price ?
I could have a regular One Plus and customize it to my desire. Of course, the licensing deals are the issue. Because, we all know, a good knock off makes almost the same impact as the real thing.
I'm all for customization and stuff, it's your phone, you can do whatever you want with it. Unless you are on a buisness meeting, the phone rings, the person pulls out their Hello Kitty Iphone and answer it. I would go, ok … But, seriously, it would be the same if you pulled out a Ferrari Edition Samsung S21 Ultra, in Ferrari Red, with the icon pack and the ringotone being the rumble of the engine. It's still a Samsung S21 Ultra, that would cost maybe 5 thounsand dollars, just for the branding.
I'm a more less is more kind of guy, I like to keep it subtle, but, under the hood, it would be maybe a james bond kind of phone ( btw, NOKIA COME ONNNN, we need that god damn film fo be released already, gezz) … I don't use the phone to impress other people, to show my status or to even show what is that i can afford to have. I use it, because, I know what it does, i know what it has and i know that if i need personalization, i can get maybe a cover, maybe an acessory that could make it that phone my own. That being said, i honestly don't see the appeal of the phone. I would simply putted a cover on that, and would put a vanilla Android rom of the OnePlus 9 Pro. And for the custom rom, it usualy brings problems of updates in the future since is a custom rom …

Sorry for the length of this "rant/honest opinion", but, to end it on a high note, loved the new set, my friend, keep those reviews coming …
