I actually like that idea, even if it couldn’t be properly interactive, make it something akin to the Devil ending (where in this case you’d sit at your desk filling out a after action report where V can reminisce and you get the choice to play it straight, or if you have the skill requirements, embellish a bit through skill checks to make yourself and Reed look good)
There's a popular fanon that the reason Vs cyberware has gone deaf is because during the two years of coma, V was acting as a kind of Winter Soldier. Reeds offer is made out of guilt for letting V get used and puppeteered for 2yrs
I kind of like the fact that you can’t choose similar to the reason I like it in the (star/sun, I don’t remember which) ending. I feel like yes, V is our character but at the same time is their own character; in the ending where V goes to the moon I wanted to have him leave with Panam more than anything but V is their own character, so stuck in the idea and the promise of night city that in all but one ending they can’t escape it alive
TLDR; I think we don’t get to choose because the writers realized the V they’d already written would never pick the quiet FIA life or something like it unless they were forced to.
I mean the inclusion of this new ending was basically to give V a “quiet life” option since the Suicide ending barely cut it and people wanted a more substantial version, but I think the writers realized the V they had already made around our decisions would not go for that quiet life Dex proposed unless they were forced to. In fact, I think its also why most people range from disliking to being at least a little bit apathetic to the suicide ending since it doesn’t really fit the V we got to see throughout the main storyline (and that dissonance only grows depending on how much of the game you did complete, and that would be made even worse with Phantom Liberty considering the amount of stuff V does just in the DLC).
on one side its cool that there isnt a good ending in cyberpunk because theres allways some kind of drawback and that keeps the game consistent but on the other and it would be cool to have like a secret ending that didnt have some negative drawback
My head cannon of this ending is Reed call your loved ones and says your in a como. Judy and River would likly move to dc and work for the FIA given their skills and personality, when you wake up you work with them in nusa.
Panam and kerry would likly run to you and you then go out free when you are up

The whole game is a big missed opportunity) Still being a great game, but could be (should be) so much more.
