Here is my 2 cents for what is worth……
Developers are making BILLIONS OF DOLLARS on Profit without having to release good or finish products. They are just doing the minimal, the lowest common denominator. They don't want to change because WE AS CONSUMERS have made their job easy. It is OUR FAULT where the Gaming Industry is at the moment. We continue to Pre-order games over and over from Companies that have release games in bad shape, not finished and not polished. We give them money when they lied (they all do lie), we give them money when they screwed up and we give them money when they just right out release games broken.
Now my questions to all of us are, Why would they take us serious? Why would they care about what we think? Why would they consider our complaints? We don't hold them accountable. We don't even care that much (most gamers don't) when the deceive us.
Unless the Consumer, US, can unite and have some kind of Agreement as to what we want, what we will buy and what will reject, NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE. As for me, I stop pre-ordering games about 7 or 8 years ago. Further more, I have Developers I WILL NOT BUY GAMES FROM at all. Haven't bought a game from EA for at least 20 years. I haven't bought a game from Ubishit for at least 4 years and my next Company I will be Boycotting is Bungie. Me as a Consumer have decided to try to not give any money to predatory companies, I am just tired of it.
And last but not least, in my Opinion, Todd Howard is a Pathological Liar, he has lied about his games almost in every single game he has been part of it and it was no difference with Startfield. I don't trust him and I don't like him. Why? Because he uses Predatory Business Practices. And I think I should Boycott his company as well.
Guys the Problem is not the Developers, the problem IS US. We have give them free passes way TOO MANY TIMES.
Maybe is time to just start calling for Boycotts into this companies and make them realize we have the money of the Purse.
It is up to us!
I have both installed, and only choose to play 2077. Starfield might be good someday, but that day won't be in 2023.
Why the hell does starfield have vehicle customization but not cyberpunk
Look he can have a dig at the fans but the criticism aimed at CP2077 was rightfully justified when they released the game – yes it’s in a good state now but they are lucky we’ve gave them the chance.
IMO – after playing Baldur’s Gate 3 before and CP2077 after its just shown how bang average at best Starfield really is!
I legit played the old version 1.6 on Saturday, played the new 2.0 update last night. The game is completely overhauled with graphics, UI and even the whole feel of the game is different and less janky in the interactions you have. I couldn’t believe it, felt like I was playing two very different games that’s for sure. Very impressed.
The thing is, you can take the best things of one of the 2 games and make the other one looks bad. It work both way, imagine comparing TOTK dongeons with Starfield or the facial animation it does'nt represent the quality of the game at all.
Mind you, took them 3 years to ‘fix’ their game…..
I think it's pretty telling that the industry and those closest to it are more concerned with having each other's backs than they are listening to the consumers. It shows just how out of touch the industry has gotten. Ultimately we're the ones who pay their paychecks. What we want matters.
I get so annoyed by the press that's supposed to hold them accountable takes the side of the industry and gas lights gamers. And now those who make games are doing the same thing. This level of hubris and being out of touch will bring another gaming crash if they're not careful. Though my faith in my fellow gamers being able to hold these people accountable (in a productive, non-toxic way) instead of rolling over and accepting things is starting to diminish.
Honestly starfield compares very poorly to both KotOR and Mass Effect, let alone actually space focused games like no man's sky.
The only reason I don't think it is a fair comparison is that Cyberpunk has been worked on for three years. If you want to compare them compare them both at launch. Or compare Starfield to Cyberpunk three years from now. We all forget how bad ai, physics, and broken Cyberpunk was at launch.
Starfield is not a very good game. Full stop. However this criticism about dialog scenes from that dev is valid. Starfield can't do Cyberpunk scenes. Because the moment you do you make it so the mod community can't make their own characters. Every scene in Cyberpunk and BG3 is mo capped. Starfield uses the same tech that FO4 and Skyrim used. It's a computer simulation and based of the words the character says the sim tries to morph the mouth to look as good as it can. It will not be as good as mo cap and probably won't be as good as mo cap for years upon years. It's not designed to be. It's designed to be "good enough." Because it needs to be usable by modders. No modder has a mo cap studio that would be insane. So Starfield has to do what it can to make sure it is as mod friendly as Skyrim and FO4. It's the reason why when you look on the nexus, mods for Bethesda games are sometimes 10x other popular games. Because a lot of what is possible on Creation Kit just isn't possible elsewhere.
The Witcher3, cyberpunk, DOS2, etc… etc… are all perfect examples, all have been out for years with mod tools available and look at what has been done? Reskins, gameplay changes, armor and weapons, things of that nature. Compare that to Skyrim and FO4 where there is new companions, full multi hour questlines, total conversions, Expansion pack size mods, romances, new world spaces, the list goes on. All of these other games have been out for years and none of them have any of that. That is the reason Bethesda has to use the Creation Engine. It's the reason why their faces look like a mess, it's the reason they don't mo cap. They aren't going to leave modders behind, and honestly they shouldn't. Does it lower the quality of the game they released? Almost certainly. But they don't care because in 5 years from now when Cyberpunk and BG3 are all but forgotten Starfield will still be relevant because of mods.
Bethesda had every opportunity and the necessary funding to build a new game engine that is capable of facilitating better game design but they decided not to, that's why Starfield is what it is today. The criticism is fair and just. As consumers, we have the final say as we are the one's spending money on the product.
I don't understand what is so difficult about developing a video game that players will love and enjoy. It's common ground to see developers nowadays make shocking and nonsensical decisions that ruin an aspect of a game. Take Payday 3 for example, the developers had a very simple task of delivering an improved version of Payday 2 on a new game engine, yet they managed to fail spectacularly. Payday 3 features an online-only service which has proven to be a massive mistake as it has made finding a game almost impossible. On top of that, Payday 3 has a multitude of missing features that Payday 2 has.
What I think is happening is that developers nowadays have very little to no passion in the video game that they're creating. It's more about appeasing the investors and shipping out a new product to rake in some quick money. The liveliness and level of immersion in a video game is indicative of how much love and care the developer puts into creating their game. It's just like writing a fiction novel.
Cyberpunk is much more enjoyable then starfield… starfield is a solid game but it’s boring as fuck most of the time 😂
There is nothing to defend in starchart. What is fake here are the near perfect scores. How?
Cyberpunk 2077 on the other hand has redeemed itself after update 2.0 it literally is a different game than 3 years ago. Like they have built it from scratch except for the story. I bashed it for being boring and now I am more than 40 hours in and can't stop. Now this is a GAME. Not to be compared to "game likes" and that is exactly what Starchart is and knowing bgs they won't change anything. Instead they will release the same thing every year and call it the ultimate uber deluxe edition.
I don't understand Bethesda games. But that's because I don't understand why their products are lackluster and really rely on the mod community to fix basic issues.
Like that streamer said "it is what it is"
Cyberpunk was a broken, barely playable mess at launch which is still inexcusable, but it DID have a soul to it. It had good writing, interesting characters and was staged in an exciting way that pulled you in from second one. It just needed more time in the oven. Starfield on the other hand has none of these things and is rotten to the core. Only thing Bethesda can do now is keep polishing a turd.
Well actualy there is a grain of truth in that developer statement.
First I want to say I agree with you. And that comparison make a sense from customer prospective – and more I completeley agree. Strafield is a garbage game from my point of view. It lacks in every inportant aspect.
BUT – now we are geting to the core. That game is maybe exactly what it should be. Its for people who want an ilusion of living world with huge amount of given freedom. Bethesda games are mile wide and an inch deep. And Bethesda fans like it that way. They do not need to have meaningfull stories or dialogs. Rich lore and immersion. They just want big sand box and mod support. We all just make asumption that we are the customers, but we may be wrong. Its same like those sad people who want BG3 to be action RPG… arent we same now?
All the problem I realy see with Starfield using this perspective is Todd Howard and his lies. He is trying to picture his games like they actualy have some depth….
Unfortunately game devos will rarely criticize each other and often do run defense for one another due to some sort of misplaced sense of solidarity.
What I hated about Starfield is the loading screen. Yeah I know this has been said a lot. But for some people they think of loading screen and think, they don't like it because of the 2 or 3 seconds wait time. For me, that's not it. In an open world setting, immersion is one of the biggest selling point. Imagine this… You're exploring, looking at towering buildings, people all around with the chatter, you see birds, the flora and fauna, then you go inside a store and it slams you with a loading screen. It just pulls you out of the immersion like a slap in the face. It's 2023, How did bethesda still not figure out how to hide the loading screens?
I was BANNED on STEAM Community of Starfild two days ago when I created this post in Discussions:
Online – 45,164 just three weeks after release.
THATS A HUUUUGE FAILURE
In comparison:
Cyberpunk 2077 – 124,490
Baldur's Gate 3 – 125,195
I'm so disapointed in this game. I'm so disapointed in Bethesda.
AND I'M TERRIFIED ABOUT THE ELDER SCROLLS VI.
If Bethesda will hold to it's outdated game disign IT WILL FAIL TOO.
I think that while in this one, it was a bit less bad, Patrick's point is that this kind of videos could be more cherry-picked, and the point is finding the bugs/problems and over-focusing on them.
It seems that he's not against criticism – just this kind.
He says "no commentary" and things like that.
I think he prefers videos that are more detailed and with voice over them, actually talking and showing the problems.
Which I think is fair. While some of this videos could definitely be legit – they also esily be cherry-picked and not actual criticism about real problems.
For example,
It would be like in CP77 in 1.0, with the Critikal video where he touches a car and suddenly it goes 90 degrees into the air, like it's a dog that rises and stands on it's feet. And then showing a clip from GTA about touching a car and nothing happens and uploading it into twitter.
While the problem was real, doing this isn't real criticism and is basically taking a specific scenario and making it seem as if that's the normal.
Of coure this is exaggerated but thats the overall point.
Bethesda, you should be ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!
So I just completed the romance quest with Sarah and received the quest for our wedding.
I've arrived on the planet Paradise, found this old friend of hers, and was waiting for the wedding ceremony…
Imagine my disappointment when the ceremony turned out to be a stupid little speech from this very friend standing next to some random bush in the middle of damn nowhere followed by declaring us husband and wife. And that's it…
What was that?
Who in the Bethesda's writing department looked at this and decided it was acceptable?
IS THIS HOW YOU IMAGINE A WEDDING???
are you out of your mind????
I stood up from my PC and was walking around the room from corner to corner loudly cursing Bethesda and its TALENTLESS WRITERS AND SCREENWRITERS, this is how shoked I was.
WHICH OF YOU THERE DECIDED THAT THIS IS ACCEPTABLE IN 2023????
Who came up with the bright idea that a random woman standing in the middle of nowhere could simply declare us newlyweds and that would be enough for me to say “damn, what a cool game!”????
To say that I'm disappointed is an understatement.
IT'S A SHAME!
And against the backdrop of Baldur's Gate 3, this is an indication that your company became A JOKE
Adition:
Was it really so difficult to have a wedding in some place with decorations, with official ceremonies, with friends and party members around? Make a couple of cutscenes with congratulations from them?
WAS IT????????????????
More people needs to see this
I get that dev doesn't like a fellow dev getting shit on, but the comparison is anything but "fake and harmful" because it's spot on. CP2077 got that comparison to GTA5 a lot back then and no one said it's "fake and harmful". Probably he's just salty because the comparison vid brings back a lot of bad memories.
I wouldn't be surprise if this guy agrees with those Baldur's Gate 3 articles. About how BG3 is "harmful" because of higher expectations written by those PR game journalists. Maybe he's going for the contrarian defend approach because of his biases for Starfield/Developers? I bet he'll defend Gollum by saying they had a "different approach".
I don't shit on Starfield because I hate it, I do it because it has numerous flaws and I criticize it for that sole reason. No game deserves special treatment, so why does Starfield?
I have Starfield, BG 3, CP2077… I like Starfield more and don't feel like comparing games that are nothing alike makes any sense. Also I dont think the people who are not enjoying Starfield are the majority, just the loudest. IF you don't like a game then don't play the game, if it's just for your channel review then say your piece and be done, but this constant harping over you dislike of Starfield, Bethesda and Microsoft is getting old and annoying, so I will now take my own advice and unsubscribe.
of course the dev is not gonna say '' yeah Starfield suck and out game is better '', its one of those corporate PR BS and not actually the real thought of the dev. because if they view the comparison for what it is, its not gonna be good for PR
The intro is lit..
IMO, it's way simpler. Starfield gets all this nitpicking criticism because it fails to deliver something great of it's own. Cyberpunk has it's flaws, but it delivers cool story, cinematic experience, graphics, atmosphere. Baldurs Gate 3 had a ton of bugs on release, some game breaking and has it's flaws. But it delivers amazing story with amazing agency and characters, with a ton of fun in gameplay.
With Starfield there is no but. It has a ton of flaws and nothing outstanding, except for shipbuilding part. Thousands of planets don't really add anything important to compensate for how average everything else is. All my friends who bought Starfield or played it through gamepass almost immediately went back to either Baldurs Gate or Cyberpunk. So yeah, it's nitpicking, but it is a clear symptom of another problem.
Nothing makes me want to buy Stanfield. I'll probably play it next time there's enough things on gamepass for me to reactivate…but I dont have high hopes.
Devs defending shitty releases boggles my mind.
Like Asmongold likes to say, I also don't give a shit about the process of making the game; I care about the end product.
While I understand they have hardships and crunch and blah blah, I still don't give a shit. Literally any job can have hardships and crunch. Take the time and make the game properly to release a finished product. It's really not rocket science.
when i compare Cyberpunk to Starfield i compare the need i felt to carry on playing.
In Starfield after an hour i thought that game is garbage and i wanted to get the refund through Steam. But a the whole Discord Server of my Destiny 2 Clan convinced me to give it more time. But i should have listened to my feelings. The game is boring, a lot to visit but nothing really to explore, the Spaceship is more like a fancy teleporter. After i found the second Artifact i actually started to skip every dialog because i just didn't care anymore about it because it is boring and lifeless.
Cyberpunk took me only a few minutes to develop an addiction, i looked on the clock and was like.. omg i am already playing 10 hours. I was in it and couldn't stop playing, i never skipped any dialog. Even in my now 6th playthrough with phantom liberty i never skip a dialog because it is well made, with love and passion.. and you feel that because the dialog has meaning and the characters are interesting.
In Starfield neither the dialog nor the characters are interesting. Also combat is a night and day comparison, specially now with 2.0.
Both Games have/had a rough start with bugs and everything. I have to admit i play Cyberpunk on latest hardware, i did at launch and i just updated to a 4090.. so i admit i never faced game breaking bugs, only the ones that made me laugh. I face those in Starfield too, but also a ton of bugs where i have to load an older save and play through stuff again that was boring the first time.. i gave up on starfield after 50 hours. Maybe i try it in a year or so when modders made that game better.. but two things here.. isn't it sad that each single bethesta game is saved by the modding comunity? i mean look at Skyrim, 12 years later and without bug fixes from modders the game would still be buggy. and secondly, can modders really fix something that boring? well time will tell
Some people seem to have forgotten how Cyperpunk 2077 ridiculed when it first launched.
Also No Man's Sky, so what will Starfield be like in a year or two?
Careful guys cdpr will make the game worse to make bethesda feel better
Exactly how out of context is brain dead Ai? The NPC's don't react to the player in Starfield when they have a weapon aimed at them or the player unloads a mag right at their feet. There's your context.
can't wait 2026 so we can compare Elder Scrolls 6 vs Skyrim, its gona be tight.
I personally have never understood the hype behind Bethesda. I've tried all their games since Fallout 3 and every one has felt half assed. The on screen colours are drab, the mechanics are stiff and without nuance and their stories aren't engaging at all
Developers should not only be chasing what players say they want. Artistically a creator goes for what they envision and ppl who like that go to it.
I get the sentiment here, but this video does sort of come off as doing the same fixating that you accused.
The reply came off as "well we just want what we want". But what is that? Everybody doesnt want the same thing. The more cinematic cyberpunk approach is cool, but he gave a specific reason why that wasnt doable in the same way, and you ignored it basically.
Filmmakers dont just chase what audiences ask for as the entire guiding light, they make something they are passionate about.
Ppl can just play what they like, but I wouldn't throw this we around so much. Some like things both ways
What's the point in being able to propose in a thousand different locations with 10 different NPCs when you don't want to propose to any of them in the first place?
Why does it matter how many different quests there are when almost all of them are bland and uninteresting?
Starfield is as wide as the ocean, but as shallow as a fucking puddle.
