Just trying out X Split recording software with my Avermedia capture card. Hopefully gameplay is smooth with less screen tearing.

  1. While I don't expect screen tearing to vanish completely while using a capture card via HDMI passthrough. I hope X Split can reduce it so videos are easier on the eye. Let me know what you guys think

  2. Maybe I am missing the point, but the issue and its solution seem straightforward. So,
    – Video Capture: 60hz There is only one remedy: Lock the game to 60fps.
    – Video Playback: 60hz
    – Game Framerate: <>60hz
Any variation between the 3 = Imperfection
    SOLUTION
Lock framerate to 60fps – there is no other solution (well, I guess one day displays will set their refresh rate form the encoded video – years away)

In any case, it doesn't seem the most onerous of sacrifices to make for the benefit of your viewers.
    Keep up the content!

  3. Still plenty of tearing you can see on the street lights as you drive past, and some pretty bad tearing when in the shooting range turning around. I noticed in your settings that you have vsync set to off. Unless you override it somewhere else you are going to get screen tearing whatever you do without vsync.

  4. The people who ask “Why don’t you use G-Sync” don’t understand the concept of variable refresh rate technology. Your display and GPU’s refresh cadence are indeed synchronized, but the capture card (and the viewer’s display) are not synchronized to that refresh cadence. The capture card is likely capturing at a fixed 60hz rhythm. i.e. exactly one frame every 16.6 milliseconds.

There is still tearing in this video. It doesn’t ruin the experience for me, but your commitment to visual quality is one of the main reasons I watch your channel. So I support your pursuit of visual excellence.

I suspect the only way to minimize tearing is to cap your games to 60fps, thereby forcing frame times as close to a 16.6 millisecond cadence as possible. It is difficult to do what you are trying to do, which is attempting to force variable refresh rate content into a fixed refresh rate container. But, capping the frame rate will be the closest thing that can be achieved.

  5. This game has so bad level of detail or mash quality I am not sure what is it called but those big building are still loading even when you are 100 meters away from them.

  6. Looks like you have some bitrate drops or compression artifacts and a few screen tearing frames hum weird have you tried to record through MSi afterburner you can do uncompressed video and lossless quality some of the best 4k video i've seen as well if you cap your frame times with RTSS in some cases it will stop the screen tearing in video frame rates.

  7. Quality looks fine either way
    But
I don't get it, how are any software solutions going to solve screen tearing when you're not Vsync'd to the capture cards frequency?
Its not going to show up in most ps4/ps5 recordings because they use vsync to 60hz.

The Temp solution is to not use a capture card, and use something on the gaming pc that pulls full frames from the gpu buffer directly

We need HDMI 2.1 Capture cards with 4k 120 HDR VRR Support. But I've heard rumors we're very far away from those right now.

The colors pops much better and the whites are not that washup like u see them in SDR.
