  1. Lots of conflicting comments on Adam Smasher from being a brain in a suit to an engram . One thing for certain is that he is defined as a “High Functioning” Cyberpsycho by Mike Pondsmith. I’ll do research on it. More Cyberpunk 2077 lore soon!

  2. My question is how many other countries have their own "adam smashers". Surely with as big as the world somewhere someone with no humanity would achieve such a level of cyberware too.

  3. I think you should also talk about how freaking busted V or the player is. Imagine being David and Rebecca in the afterlife only to see some guy wearing your mom's jacket and Rebecca's shotgun and totally shit stomped Adam with little to no enchantments screaming out your name while sobbing like an idiot.

  4. It seems like cyberpsychosis is heavily, but not solely, tied to your mental state and how you manage the various traumas, and troubles rising around you in night city. I think maines decent into psychosis started when pilar got zeroed. No one ever really sat and talked about it, so it seems like they all just internalized it and it festered for maine more than he was willing to let on.

  6. Adam smasher and V are both walking corpses being controlled by engrams.. or computers chips. There isn't really anything to go nuts with if the brain is just another part or a hub for the actual brain being the chip. Can't go nuts if your already there

  7. So the reason why cyberpsychosis comes is "multiple augmentations are changing chemical balance in your body." Adam Smasher don't have a body, and his brain is connected to only ONE augmentation: The Pod. The Pod, that can (probably) "imitate" human body with a right (for brain's stability) chemistry, both protecting him from cyberpsychosis and allowing him to use ANY robotic body that supports the Pods.
That might be a reason too.

  8. Dann that is pretty deep when you think about it, he never lost his humanity and compassion to cyberpsycosis because he never had any to begin with, but with that theory there should be a small but significant number of people capable of being fully augmented without suffering from I'll effects. After all there are quite a few true psychopaths today, not a lot but certainly around in in a thousand atleast

  9. The rulebook for Cyberpunk Red includes a really good explanation of what "cyberpsychosis" actually is, as well as the deep truth about it—cyberpsychosis isn't real. The violent outbursts that people call "cyberpsychosis" are actually just symptoms of trauma. This trauma can come from installing cyberware, or from just living in the hyper-capitalist hellworld dystopia of Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners actually misrepresent cyberpsychosis from how it's portrayed in the original roleplaying games.

Cyberpunk Red explains that installing too much cyberware causes dissociative disorders, as you no longer see your body as being your own. It creates a Ship of Theseus problem with the human body. This is why installing cyberware reduces your humanity stat. Cyberware isn't the only factor though; experiencing traumatic events also lowers your humanity. You can regain lost humanity by going to therapy. Pre-existing psychopathic tendencies actually make people more susceptible to cyberpsychosis by giving them a lower starting humanity stat.

When you hit 0 humanity, you don't necessarily go on a killing spree; you just have a mental breakdown. When that breakdown becomes violent, it's called "cyberpsychosis." The diagnosis is fake, used to disguise that the society of Cyberpunk is mentally destroying people. It's likely that Adam Smasher's response to his trauma was simply to become a heartless killing machine for Arasaka, indulging his bloodlust with civilian casualties.

IMO it's unfortunate that 2077 and Edgerunners portray cyberpsychosis as just "oh no, I installed too many cup holders in my body, now I have to go on a killing spree" instead of the actual dissociation and psychological trauma that it is in-lore
