Here we discuss the issue with the save file corruption with Cyberpunk 2077 when it reaches 8MB and the reasons why it seems to be happening. Hint: Don’t grind crafting and don’t hoard.

  1. the 8 mb bug is due to the way the file is saved. Every item you pick up, get gifted or craft a bit of the info on the item gets saved into your save file. dumping your inventory wont help. If you go ham and get tons of loot or craft a ton you have a ticking time bomb in your character file. At least till they can fix it.

  2. I've been playing on the PS4 and was super happy with the most recent patch. My game finally stopped crashing every hour. But now at 70 hours in my save got corrupted. I haven't done any of the crafting exploits they say can cause the problem. I've just been picking up items and breaking them down into components as I go. They need to fix that problem (amongst others) ASAP. I've picked up too much loot that the save file never apparently gets rid of, even though it's not in my inventory.

  3. This pretty much kills my build. I was running Shotguns, Athletics, Crafting, and Grenades. I'm only 28 hours in and I'm already pretty close to that hard cap. I use a lot of grenades. One of my favorite combat maneuvers is to toss a few grenades into a crowd of higher level npcs and then pop them with a shotgun to get them to detonate early and kill if not mortally wound all of them. Well that sucks. Guess it's time to uninstall.

  4. Well I can't speak for everyone, but I fully intend to play this game for a good number of hours. I am waiting for all the bugs to be squished and AMD ray tracing patch release. Along with any needed optimization especially for ray tracing. Not in a rush here and I need a better video card anyway. All of the people playing right away can deal with play testing the game and other growing pains.

  5. My guess is that the save file file data is stored in an 8MB array specified by a constant and probably that was thought as being plenty because in their playtests data only reached 1MB or so.
    Just a guess.

  6. It's not really a bug. It's a fundamental flaw in thinking and planning. WHY on earth would you put a cap on something like a save file size in a game where you can craft thousands of items over and over again? WHY would your save game file contain IDs of your previous non existing items? Shows lack of testing. How hard would it be to spawn 100 thousand items in your inventory and test save functionality?

This is just poor architecture design and rather shows that code quality suffered a huge blow after core developers left and were replaced with less experienced coders.
It just looks like the game is saving whole history of your character state, not just current state. That's not how you should handle this. That's why it takes forever to load 8MB save file. Game is trying to parse the whole history of your crafting and using items, to figure out your current state. This is not optimal.

Imagine logging into your bank account and it takes half an hour because the system needs to calculate your current balance, based on your whole transaction history, instead of just getting your current balance, saved in the system as a separate value. That would be ridiculous.

Amount of bugs and severity of those bugs just tells me never to buy Cyberpunk. I will never financially support a company that had the balls to release this piece of garbage.

  7. I'm about 35 hours in and built my character around crafting and have been doing all the sidequests/gigs rather then the main story. Now i feel that my natural playstyle will likely hit this limit. Not going to dump another 30 hrs in while worrying about my save files getting corrupt before i even finish the game. Not playing or giving cdpr/gog any money until this is fixed. Good game but cdpr lost my trust and are now just another greedy evil company like all the rest

  8. Made some testing too. Apparently, if you CREATE and SELL items you will still make the value raise BUT if you just picked up tons of things and sell them the save file size will decrease.. Possibly, if you keep your inventory almost clean and keep very few component part you should be able to limit the rate at which the save will increase in size. 4.7 Mb yesterday, 4.6 Mb today after selling basically every stuff. Still not good, maybe the only way to end game 100% is to pick only legendaries, never craft and only sell painting for cash. They are basically asking us the break the game to finish it LOL

  9. Asked for a refund when I heard about the save game corruption. Now I'm spending that money on other games that are on sale at Epic. I may look at Cyberpunk again next year. But till then, I have no desire to pay for being a beta tester.

  10. How is this even possible on 4 & 5 gen console's 🤦😂 Just create your character save, then go to your storage save data & you'll see you've already surpassed the 8MB's like WTF..! That's impossible because Witcher 3 my save database is like 136.8MB's & my file never gets corrupted..

  11. Thank God I decided to not buy the game at release and wait at least a year. I'm a chronic hoarder in every game that lets me.
I've already lost or accidentally deleted saves in other games throughout my "gaming career", and it stopped me from finishing some of my favorite games.

  12. So this is hugely disappointing. Like the launch on the whole was a cluster sick to begin with but if they had been not honest and open with the state the game was in when they released it I think it would of done better in the eye of public opinion. Say it is not in the state were wish it to be in. If you want to cancel your orders now is the time to do so, we apologize for the state the game is in but feel delaying it longer is not in the best interest of those who are willing/wanting to play the game in the state it is in now and know we will continue to work on it as we have in previous games.

With that being said the 8MB hard limit and save file optimization is abysmal. I have a perk that disassembles all the "junk" I pick up into crafting materials because I wanted to do a crafting build. I have crafted a bunch of stuff to use/sell and it is seriously op. I'm nearing the end of the game have done a good amount of side quest horde not than I should but am not a complete collector and just looked at my save file. It was 5MB. Well shit I thought. So I did the reasonable thing and sold all unnecessary items/crafting materials, etc, paired down to the just bare minimum to keep playing. Save file is now 5.4 MB…

This may be anecdotal but how the hell does the save file get BIGGER after removing 100's of items from your inventory?!?!?

  13. An exploit I noticed that might help avoid this glitch: If you disassemble a large stack of items such as grenades or hypos, you get the XP for disassembling the entire stack, regardless of how many you actually select. You can use this to reach max crafting skill without having to grind thousands of items. I hit 20 crafting skill this way, and my save file is currently at about 4.5mb.

  14. Given how many broken items you can find in your "all inventory" tab, like progressions shards, that don't actually register as items.. I am amazed you have to accumulate 8mb worth of data before it starts breaking everything.

  15. Honestly, this kind of kills the game for me atm. I love the atmosphere and so many aspects of the game, but I really think I'll shelf it after around 65 hours doing mostly side-quests and gigs. I'm at around 4.2MB, but barely done a few story missions, so my playstyle is definitely not going to work here. Really sad I pre-ordered this, gave the game a REAL chance and now am forced to stop unless I am willing to lose everything. Hope these issues are fixed soon and not just shelved to fix console versions of the game.

  16. I call 🐂💩 on that the game is broken & unfinished..! Start a new game create your character than set your settings in your desire save it, quit then go to your Saved Data in System Storage & you'll see ill say exactly 146.9MB's That's just a bogus excuse for an unfinished game.. It's going to be 2021 & this ain't no PS1 console that used to use 8MB save card's so I ain't buying it.. 💩 it autosaves like 9 times @12.59MB × that by your user profile that's 4.20mb also your settings is 4.20mb total of 146.9MB's & I haven't even met Jackie so that's no excuse for the game not working or save profiles getting corrupted.. I'm in PS4 Pro & The Witcher 3 is @ 120.MB & Playing it in New game+ So I don't buy it they just release the game that was not even finished & I blame Greedy investors.. 8yrs & this garbage 💩 I give it 2out of 10..!

  17. I was playing the game the right way and not cheating like using cheat engine. I did one quick playthrough and now I am on my second do everything playthrough which includes crafting.
Because of this 8 mb limit I have stopped looting and started using cheat engine to give me mats and money. Sigh :/
