Does Phantom Liberty end Cyberpunk 2077’s life-cycle on a high note or does the latest expansion from CD PROJEKT RED fall short of expectations?

After 60 hours of play I have a good idea on the good, the bad, and the ugly of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty as CDPR, much like the Relic, attempt to overwrite the disastrous 2020 launch. Let’s discuss!

  1. We still can't sit on benches and chairs? Damn, even Starfield implemented that and you're supposed to hop from planet to planet. Was disappointed that it wasn't in the game at launch and apparently I'll still be disappointed now.

  2. I was sorely disappointed with this game to the point that I shelved it and never touched it again. That being said, I think I’ve let enough of the sour taste in my mouth dissipate and I’m really looking forward to finally playing through Cyberpunk 2077 for once with this new update and expansion.

  3. Happy 400th episode Choom. Great content, profession, informative and honest.

Just counting the hours until patch 2.0 is downloaded and I can "Fall in love with Night City all over again" as the add says.

I am disappointed with the news that the gangs don't do much more and that Pacifica hasn't receive more work. It's the Combat Zone after all and I want to feel like I'm going to get attacked every time I drive into it.

Being a player who avoids as much as possible attracting the police attention (my Corpo Counter Intelligence Netrunner V is all about doing gigs "undetected and unsuspected") I'm not as fussed as some about the police update. Presumably there will be scripted police interactions anyway. The whole spy subplot I am looking forward to and I am glad to hear there is another horror themed mission. Felt there should have been more of these. When I played the original PnP back in the day there were a number of gigs that our GM added a horror element which I have been missing. The Scavs and Wraiths both could have been a lot more Texas Chain Saw Massacre meets SAW like imo.

Would you compare this DLC as closer to Witcher 3s Heart of Stone or Blood and Wine?

    Take care Choom.

  4. Been waiting on this my guy. LOVE your Cyberpunk content. I'm excited to jump back in. So far I've heard it being compared to James Bond and now you with Mission Impossible. I'm so excited. PLUS the hints of Idris being James Bond fits perfectly

  6. I’m surprised they never added a kicking fighting style and not just hand and arms, would be cool to be able to use your legs to attack while wielding weapons. Especially if you have leg mods.

  7. I can’t tell if you liked it or not, jeez 😂. it feels like there are a few people who expected Phantom Liberty to change the game entirely. I don’t think I had my expectations for the dlc to fix the game entirely. A lot of my issues came down to glitches, bugs, and visual hiccups. It feels like phantom liberty is a massive case of “if you loved playing cyberpunk 2077, it’ll be 2 times if not 3 times better” but if you hated it or were really disappointed/hurt by it, then phantom liberty just gives more reasons to reflect on being scorned. My main concern currently is how this game runs on consoles, nearly every single review is a pc review

  8. DAMN BROTHER tinker tailor soldier spy reference? Ok you're legit 😂
glad to see this dumpster fire got put out and replaced with an ice cream truck🎉
Btw, my save is write after I rescued what's her name from the ripperdoc in the beginning, should I start over or is my save early enough to not really matter? I've pretty much just got to where the game opens up.

  9. Is the new ending like… satisfactory? Does it take any precedence over the base-game non-PL endings? Or is it just like the other endings thematically?

I don't wanna play PL only for the new ending to somehow leave even more plot threads unresolved.

And can decisions in PL lock you out of the new base game ending?

  10. I wish they would tweak the bars a little bit and make it where you can actually sit down and have a drink. I hate that you can only do that from your apartment. So many bars in cyberpunk and not much you can do inside them.

  11. I feel like not enough people talk about the in game first person cinematics. It's an open world with cinematics on par and sometimes better than the OG MW1/2 era cinematics.
I say MW1 era cause newer CODS have kind of abandoned that style in favor of CGI stuff out of player controlled player controlled cutscenes are such a cool concept. I hope TW4 keeps this philosophy even if it's a 3rd person game. Something so cool about being able to look one way and see motion caption acting while also being able to look another way to see different acting going on at the same exact time. Love replaying a game and witnessing something in an in game cutscene you missed the first time around. Love those lil but amazing details

  12. Fantastic review. I can tell you really immersed yourself in this game. This was definitely one of the most derailed reviews that I've watched.

Im curious to see if ill be able to have raytracing on after the new 2.0 patch like you did with my rtx 3080.

  13. being that Cyberpunk TTRPG was my favorite as a kid, i really wanted this game to be something special and it just wasn't…so i am hoping that this will reforge the game into something more along what ti was hoping ti to be. I just wish it could have been played in 3rd POV as i don't find FPS necessarily more immersive but i'll accept the design choice.

  14. I appreciate the honesty! The main story in the game had a few great moments, but like you I was underwhelmed by the end. I am definitely looking forward to playing Phantom Liberty if it outperforms when it comes to the story/characters. I agree with you about Johhny but by the end of the game, he was one of the few characters I ended up caring about lol

  15. In the recent DigitalFoundry video on DLSS 3.5 they talk about why depth of field effects don't really work with DLSS yet. In the image processing pipeline the depth of field effects come before DLSS, so DLSS is trying to add "crispiness" to things that have no business being sharp.

  16. Your thoughts on the main story are mine exactly, there’s nothing bad about it but I was never really sad about a character death, the only thing that I actually got attached to was V’s fate in the end, depending on what you choose.

  17. Wow you made me realize how great of an expansion it would be if CDPR also made another that takes place after we meet Jackie. Perhaps we could’ve seen how our relationship with Jackie and his family developed into the close bond we know we had in the base game. Instead we got fast forwarded clips of our time with Jackie at the start of the game. Imagine going on more gigs with him, endure some more serious/emotional moments with him, maybe some highs and lows in our relationship. Could’ve had a more proper introduction to fixers and ripperdocs like Vik. A true way of seeing us progress and climb up the ranks of gigs and fixers before the big Arasaka heist.
