I simply cant stand playing with screen space reflections set any lower than High. When moving over reflective surfaces, there is this awful ugly shimmer that is less pronounced the higher the setting. It's almost like TV static to me and has been there since launch yet I never hear anyone comment on it
Hardware unboxed and Digital Foundry are my go-to for game optimization. Love you guys.
have a 3070 and sometimes in dogtown i get down to 40 fps, i have raytracing off and everything else on high, 2.0 really killed my fps
You must turn on DLAA/Xess Ultra Quality (for AMD/Intel users).
TAA in this game makes so many ghostings and has terrible image quality, and I use an OLED panel, so it's a game issue.
And yes, FSR is sh*t; don''t use it, from AMD fanboys.
Is 60 fps on a 1440p with RT on bad??
Cascading shadow resolution… HIGH… HAHAHAHAHHAHHA
the best setting for me are maximum. because 13900K and 4090
This is a good video but you did the volumetric fog resolution and quality wrong, when you're in bars and even the greenhouse in dogtown turning these two settings from ultra to high gave me an extra 10-15 fps and made the quality of fog and clouds noticeably worse and less blended together
Thanks tim this was great 🙂
Color Precision set to medium was causing many parts of Konpeki Plaza to have black flickering across the entire screen. It was fixed instantly when set back to high (so definitley worth the 1% performence drop).
what nonsense is this? Crowd density have a HUGE impact on performance and framerate which is logical.
Can I turn off screen space reflections in cyberpunk 2077 if I'm going to use ray tracing?
Suberb video.
I am running a 4080 with everything maxed and path tracing on at 3440×1440. As is, at best I can get about 40fps. BUT, with DLSS (quality) and frame generation turned on I get 95-115 fps in the busiest of city areas. Frames climb in the wastes.
I am shocked how well DLSS and frame generation work at this point. I recommend trying it yourself if you have a 40xx or 30xx card.
about screen space refl.- i make some test and its very noticable on full hd res going from high to ultra if you experience "grain" on the objects with ultra setting my game is very clear. on 2k i se not so much need in ultra setting
Yo, any Alan Wake optimization?
Thank You!
the new dlc is badly optimized, they even put ryzen 7 7800X3D as a requirement for High setting at 1080p for 60fps stable experience, that is fucking crazy…do you know how much ryzen 7 7800x3d cost? it cost a bloody fortune, mate
thank you for the detailed explanation of the effects of each settings.
Thanks for such a great video with detailed explanations!
As always Hardware Unboxed delivering top quality content and testing whilst holding gamers back. Truly the heroes we didn't deserve, but the heroes we needed. Keep it guys
Wow…. thank you for this. I have a 4070 founders. Its like this video was made for me. I went from 60 fps range to 100+ with your settings.
Thank you.

SSR has a huge impact on performance at least when using upscaling. You should really test settings on both of these scenarios.
