  1. Glad I skipped the PS5 and got a 4080. I'll never buy another console again. When the time comes to upgrade, I'll have all of my old games too. New tech demos like Path Tracing? I'll have that too.

  3. Some unsolicited criticism: I suggest flipping the pictures back and forth rapidly 2 or 3 times for comparison, not the slow gradual fade. Digital Foundry does that and it's so much easier to compare.

  4. I wasn't that impressed with the game tbh. Gameplay wise. Some parts look good graphically. But saying PS5 can't do Overdrive is Comical. It would have to be reduced in rez.

But this Argument comes down to AMD VS NVIDIA.

NVIDIA are clearly in control in RT. Until AMD steps up their game.

But the fact you need a 4080, 4090 is telling enough.

Some games RT is awful because its tacked on. Most of these engines are running legacy code with added RT features and they don't run the greatest.

But PC will always be infront if you want an increase in fidelity. Because you have to pay for it

  5. Ps5 looks better than a $3000 pc at certain points ( 0:09 look at the texture quality on V's leather jacket and her badge)

Not saying it runs better, but it most definitely looks better in certain scenarios and the games runs pretty smoothly.

    Console optimization truly is amazing.

  6. If you think Overdrive looks too dark in the dark areas and too bright the bright areas, it's because your monitor can't display it properly or your settings aren't set right, making your darks 'crunch' together. Same with the lights. It's either time to upgrade your windows 7 era screen, tinker with your settings (if possible) or enable HDR. =)

  7. Lol….At 0:35. What happened to the silver color cupboard?

The gate also looses a lot of graphical detail with Path tracing on.

At 0:56, the robe of the statue looses detail and clarity with path tracing.

PS5 RT version looks more detailed and sharp. Path tracing over brightens the image while losing a lot of detail. It looks like it is making second guesses and the result is image artifacts.

I believe path tracing is a scam from Nvidia. And people, esp. blind PC fanboys, are falling hook, line and sinker to the marketing pitch of the overpriced rig.

  8. Props to the artists at CD Projekt that managed to evoke such a distinct aesthetic entirely within the constraints of rasterization techniques. They managed to fake about 60-70% of what light actually does in those scenes will going for a mood or tone. But there's just no replacing actual light simulation. I noticed where it really shines is in indoor scenes, nighttime, and any location where old GI and ambient occlusion techniques would fail. It REALLY grounds objects in the world, and the effect it has on the NPCs is perfect. It removes that non-PT glow to them that always looked unnatural. It almost felt like they were unlit in certain circumstances.

  9. Even the most powerful PC versions of rdna2 are awful at ray-tracing, so it really is impressive that the PS5 is managing this on its cut-down die. Still, you don't even need to compare it to overdrive to show the difference between console and PC. Ultra alone is going to look light years better, as long as you have the pricy Nvidia or RDNA3 gpu to run it.

  11. it's kinda depressing that even path tracing does not look good in some circumstances. Maybe because of how this game is made, or it's because of my rtx3070, but whenever I ride a car through the city it looks so bad. You can see strange blobs and artifacts, the road constantly changes from super reflective mirror to semi opaque with hard lines. We not there yet

  12. Game is gorgeous regardless. Path tracing just adds and extra layer of "wow!" effect that shows us how the future games can look like.
As a sidenote.. Every time I see CP2077 gameplay I remind myself how freakin amazing this game is.

  13. 70% of the time difference seems minimal, at times significant, but overall its still the same game with crossgen graphics, nothing mind blowing even on 4080 with path tracing….
    Ps
this moment with character on thumbnail yes it looks much worse on PS5 because lack of shadows on character, I dont know why( path tracing is not needed for that)
