CD Projekt SA reported on Monday that its profit fell by more than half in the first quarter from a year earlier as its flagship game, “Cyberpunk 2077,” was kept off Sony’s PlayStation Store, which a company official said will continue to impact results.
“Cyberpunk 2077,” featuring Hollywood star Keanu Reeves, was one of the most anticipated games last year. It was delayed three times, and after a bug-ridden premiere it has been delisted from Sony’s (6758.T) PlayStation Store for more than five months. read more
CD Projekt (CDR.WA) did not say how many units of “Cyberpunk 2077” it sold in the quarter. The company’s chief financial officer, Piotr Nielubowicz, told a conference call that about 60% of first-quarter product sales came from Cyberpunk sales, without providing details.
Analysts have said sales were likely low, due to Cyberpunk’s absence from the PlayStation Store and release of a major patch just in late March. In this video DreamcastGuy talks about the new profit report from CDPR and how bad the game is doing since being pulled from PlayStation stores despite still being up on the Xbox marketplace and PC.
“The general situation as long as we are not back on the Sony store has not changed. One of the leading marketplaces for us is not available and we generate most of the sales on the PC/digital channels,” a company official told the conference call.
Net profit in the first quarter fell 64.7% to 32.5 million zlotys, well below the 80 million zlotys expected by analysts, impacted by depreciation of Cyberpunk 2077 development expenditures and work on fixing the game. Revenue fell 2% to 197.6 million zlotys ($53.94 million).

  1. The moment I saw they trying to build the massive amount of hype they were giving to 2077, I immediately lost all hope it would be anything as amazing as they were trying to make it look. Although, I still got surprised to see how, not bad, because the game doesn't seem to be bad, but broken as it turned out to be. They had to know better than to pull, or better say push it out, the way they did.

  2. Let's be real here, what is probably the most ambitious RPG ever made? I would actually say Daggerfall, and that came out in the 90's.
Not saying an RPG needs to be the most ambitious to be good at all, but when a company comes out and is like "THIS ONE IS GONNA BE GAME-CHANGING" and act like it's gonna be the best game ever made, the product is usually not even 1/100th of what people were expecting proportional to the hype promised by advertisements.
Gaming corperations have just gotten better at advertising. Because if they can hype up a game enough to get billions into their pockets on the first day before first impressions, what's the point in actually following through on anything?

  3. When I think of something losing money, typically it’s when the cost of production isn’t recouped by sales, not really whether or not the product met analyst expectations. Technically the game didn’t “lose money” so much as it didn’t make what was originally expected. CDPR made off like fat rats regardless, just not as fat as they wanted.

  4. False, it didnt lose money! Stop spreading false information, they paid the investors dividend payment and they can do it only if they are on + net

  5. Just drop the dlc and make a sequel the game needs a massive overhaul which patches won’t fix just move on to the next game it’s funny Witcher 1 was considered the worse in the series I see a similar pattern

  6. I never thought this was going to be a good game.. never went with the hype. They should've sticked with the Witcher universe anyway.. not a first person sci-fi shooter.

  7. When you run your business for your investors and not your customers, then you deserve to fail. Sorry CDPR, your executives are fucked up, and therefore the company deserves any and all repercussions, including failure if it comes to it.
