  1. Reality is often disappointing. Some of these scenes look way too bright (not just in this video but in others as well) and other times too dark. I'd rather keep my framerates and I'm even saying this as a 4090 user. I assume anyone that has a 4090 also has a 1440p 240Hz or even 4K 240Hz or at least 4K 144Hz. Playing with DLSS3 already adds a bit of mouse input as it is but then you gotta deal with the 50-80 FPS (100 or so outside the city) which looks and feels awful on a high refresh monitor. it's just not worth it. Some places I saw when I played looked better but not enough to cut my FPS in half.

For a free update it's good and this is the future but not yet. Trading your FPS for good visuals here and there and don't forget that overdrive makes things worse in other areas. Also, it's completely bugged sometimes. Textures get bugged and become low res, things look like your memory on the GPU is dying, really weird. Only happens on Overdrive. Turning it off immediately makes it go away. And no, it's not my GPU OC – I turned that off because I thought it was that. Of course this issue is not mentioned or shown in any video I've watched despite me seeing it in some of them.

  2. What this Overdrive reveal has shown me is that there are a LOT of ignorant, proudly ignorant, people in the gaming community. They don't understand what pathtracing is, don't understand why it makes scenes look the way it does, and the difference between artists crafting a scene for an intended look vs being lit realistically.

Sometimes it looks "better" because the countless manhours were pumped into the game by artists going for a very specific mood and tone for each scene and area. Game devs have gotten so good they can fake about 60-70% of how actual light works. However, as it's plain to see there simply is no substitute for the actual simulation of light propagation in a given space. It immediately exposes just how inadequate rasterized lighting techniques such as AO, GI and light probes are.

  3. The difference is so little and is never worth the performance lost…
I play a game to primary have fun with it and not too look after if it looks better with correct light and shadow details LOL

  4. intead of this crap they should have invested to create ULTRA rez textures that would ACTUALLY BE A VISABLE difference and that upgrade wouldn't cost any performance hit.

  5. The performance penalty makes no sense when you compare one to the other side by side. Yes, the lightning is different, but is not really that different. Maybe with a game built built from the ground up with this feature included will look significantly better.

  6. Wow, 3 generation of gpu, and 5 years of development lead to This?
Wait a bit, let me take my magnifying glass so I can see how "rtx is better" and how "dumb" ppl are for not belie ING in it πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
