After my prior video on the outsourced QA situation with cyberpunk 2077 gaming media has picked up the story with a couple of key inaccuracies that need to be rectified.

This has become a larger story now, with more sources contacting me and as a result I will be compiling and doing a broader piece in the future. For today, here is my followup on what has happened thus far.

  1. Wait a bug quota? I just realized, I do have a friend that worked on Apex legends, and it was the same thing there, they needed to meet a bug quota…tho, she was a tester, which I'm not sure is any better.

This makes me wonder if CDPR can sue Quantic lab for like lost sales of the game or something since they thought they were getting a Veteran team of QA testers and that clearly wasn't the case here. I'm not saying CDPR wasn't at fault here they were but I think the QA testing played a part here. Also about Devs not wanting their game to be the next Cyberpunk makes me wonder if they are thinking twice about using Quantic on huge projects in the future.

  3. Hi. I live in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where Quantic Lab in located. I participated in 2 separate job interviews with them at the end of 2020, and in the summer of 2021. I was job-hunting and was interested in getting into the industry because I’m passionate about games, but I have zero experience or knowledge when it comes to the ins and outs of development. My interviews went fine, but I refused their offer because I couldn’t accept working for a salary that was going to be (close to) minimum wage.

    Since then, for about a year and a half already I have been working at one the city’s main shopping malls. Quantic Lab’s job-recruitment advertisement is displayed on panels in the mall 24/7 at least since then, hinting that they are probably in constant need of new personnel basically all the time. It’s disappointing to see that while they seem to have the resources to advertise, they don’t seem to have the resources to offer proper salaries even for entry-level jobs, and so much more by the looks of the information you received.

    Cluj has become a very expensive city to live in, and it’s downright impossible to afford living here making (close to) minimum wage unless you have your own house/apartment, which many younger people who move here from other more underdeveloped places in the country don’t have, or you’re still living with your parents who provide for you. This might give some insight into why their appears to have been a lack of professional senior staff working on the project, and why at least a significant part of testers were inexperienced rookies.

    There is absolutely a deeper story here, and it's about the work culture in Romania as a whole. No wonder Pro TV contacted you, it is indeed the biggest television network in the country, I'm not surprised that they are looking to sink their teeth into this juicy story as well. :))

  4. What a perfect storm for disaster, I do not envy the technical leads on this project.
    – Management pressuring you to release the game, so someone probably got the “it doesnt need to be perfect” speech (pro tip:it’s a trap)
    – devs are complaining it’s not ready, but devs always complain it’s not ready, it’s kind of part of the job. Good devs always think it can be done better.
    – QA team is a disaster

    You do what any competent manager would do to get some perspective, ignore the talking, follow the data. Turns out the data is crap because QA is biased towards silly issues, so when you find out devs have been solving “minor” or “cosmetic” issues for months now, you cave in to management.

    Get who’s ass is getting fired…

  5. “Gaming journalism” is working as intended. Your video was clear and concise as most of your videos are. But these so called “journalists” cannot and will not put in 20-30 minutes to watch a video before they put out their take on it as an original thought.

  7. I suspect that any other YouTuber would have agreed to an interview without a second thought just for the sake of exposure. The fact that you declined to that shows your integrity as a journalist. Keep it up man!

  8. "What made cyberpunk fail" was your headline when pointing towards quantic labs failure. Not "what contributed to cps fail". So saying that you never claimed the product would have been okayish otherwise is somewhat insincere.

  10. The bugs were not the main problem, the game design sucks, it was boring, the main story short, the side stories boring, only the GFX were OK.
    We've had buggy games like VtM: Bloodlines that were and are amazing.

  12. The point of testing being done exclusively on high end rigs is a constant concern for games testing for me. It seems as time has gone on, less average PCs are capable of running newer games at a decent level.

Long story short: quantum lab did a terrible job at doing exactly what they were hired for… This shows a detached, mixed up, stretch too far by attempting a nonsense goal of making this game run on every different platform version and console specs vastly different, but hoping it will all seemingly work. I wish CD project red never followed through with this project. They should have stayed focused on their passion project they succeeded at which is the witcher. I Hope to the Lord, that this cyberpunk disaster NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN and CD project red refines themselves, rediscovers all the great aspects that made us all praise the witcher 3. I'm really happy as soon as I saw them announce they are fully committing to unreal engine 5 because its such a highly capable developer engine to use. Back when they did cyberpunk I knew it was going to be bad when I learned they were trying to build their own new game engine at the exact same time as building a type of game they've never done. I personally love the genre of cyberpunk but I really find no interest in the manner they did. Plus the gameplay, physics reaction, movement, exploration, creativity and uniqueness is just completely lackluster and bland, boring and doesn't seem to provide anything fun or enjoyable to do… We didn't even know that back in the Xbox 360 or so era seems like the golden age of certain video games. Certain things were just so fun to play, and games ran better when you got them.

  14. My biggest gripe with the game was the lack of an endgame… just getting tossed back to an instance right before the final mission bothered me way more than anything else. I haven't touched the game since.

  15. If Quantic labs sues you they have to be prepared for discovery by your attorneys and any corporate misdeeds they have being exposed.
    So if they made bad mistakes not just with CDPR but with other companies they could come to light.
    So I doubt they will sue you.

  17. As a former QA tester for Electronic Farts: release is 99% pre-alpha/early beta . Case in point: Medal of Honor Warfighter . 1.Shotgun slugs are instant kill even if they scratch you while a headshot with a sniper rifle at point blank range results in 60% health decrease to the enemy player. 2. Chinook helicopter blades both rotate clock-wise. 3. RPG to enemy player's feet results in 80% health decrease.
    All of the above were KS (known shippable = known bugs, will ship the game as is).
    This was way back in 2012. You better be sure as shi that things have gotten worse and the laughable QA that Cyberpunk went through speaks for itself.

    Workflow is like this: QA—>Accounting—->Marketing—->upper management. Each —> to be treated as a 20% reduction in the truth of the product, at least from what I saw as my time as a tester vs. on-the-shelf products

  18. And of course, people either can't read/listen or simply don't wan't to read/listen/comprehend. People already misconstructed the Story into their own bias, as in CDPR did nuffin wrong. It was all quantic labs fault… THIS IS NONSENSE!

    Everything happening to Cyberjunk 76 was and always will be 100% CDPRs FAULT! PERIOD!! And not only that, they doubled down, lied and scammed people. They also deliberately manupulated their own Stockmarket!

    This basterd right here 3:53 he made millions by selling his own company stocks right before he/they deliberately crashed the market through information manupualtion. This is not a theory, or opinion. This is a F. FACT!

    Sadly people only have a 8 days attention span, so many will not even remember when all that happened two years ago. When it was not only clear as day, it was right in sight, for everyone to see! The data speaks for itself. Such convenient "coincidence" does not exist. Its called manipulation. And its a criminal offense in most countries!

  19. I would definitely agree a lot of issues were hardware dependent. I was on Xb1x at release and game would crash at odd intervals. Figured out most of problem stemmed from how much the game was streaming data. The xbox's HDD & game dvr couldnt sustain it.

  20. I used to live next to Quantic Lab, in 2020, and I saw the "kids" every day in their smoke break 🙂 I wondered what they were testing? Now I know :)) Companies like Quantic Lab target or prefer to hire students/ ppl with no experience because they know that after the project is finished they will end the predetermined contracts with said ppl. If a big project is coming up, then they act as a blowfish. But tbh, Ubisoft and EA do the same, here in Romania, and even for them is hard to keep a good senior QA tester. Most of them migrate to better jobs in IT. Because testers are payed like shit 🙂

You over exaggerate the amount of content in a game and the fact that each dungeon is meticulously hand crafted each one is unique but no, you blatantly lie, conceal and deceive a client when you intentionally misrepresent the number of staffers and their qualifications you charge a client for

  22. Pretty crazy how deep this is. With this kind of response, you know you were over the target at least. I still contend the game sucks regardless, but this QA debacle is eye opening.
