Welcome to Deconstructing The Game folks. Today Ryan talks us through some ideas that he’s been thinking about in relation to how Cyberpunk can utilize its smaller otherwise unused areas to act as starting points for New Game Plus and how the game could progress without the player being V.
What do you think ?

I feel like this is a good idea, but it also makes me wish that if life paths are under 5-10 minutes, we could have a lot more life paths where you start off as a Sherif/Deputy or Reformed Cyber Psycho.
reminds me of the epilogue of Red Dead Redemption 2. it's an interesting idea. I do prefer to play more as V though, even though the endings would stay non-finite (which I admit is annoying).
Like acutely add story and depth to characters, and gangs and areas
All the missing content should be added for free
TBH, this doesn't make a lot of sense from a game dev perspective.
I think you as a someone at least some a background in game dev are severly underestimating how much work this would actually be.
Why would CDPR spend an immense amount of time developing such a feature when the number of players actually using it would be fairly small? After all, not a whole lot of people are doing NG+ playthroughs.
It would also be weird from a story perspective. Why would the game just continue on after the grand finale? Wouldn't it seem weird to basicly switch to another character?
You are also saying that this would make it easier to implement new features, while it actually might be more difficult. The entire story with quests etc. is built around V and wouldn't make much sense from the perspective of another character – yes, also many gigs. So CDPR would have to develope a lot new content for essentially another game in the same world with a different game loop. That you can't even play unless you have finished the main story and want to restart as a new character. Adapting features to both would also not be easier, it's quite the opposite.
And about the story end… I heavily doubt the game just ends like we saw. It is very, very likely that one of the DLCs will continue on Vs story (see Mr. Blue Eyes). I think the current option is only a placeholder for a later story expansion.
What is THAT pistol?
Truth is, the game likely would have followed Maxtac in the beginning of development.
How is the Rockerboy not a life path in Cyberpunk?
Nice ideas, but it would never happen. The level of coding, additional voice acting and everything else required would necessitate a pretty big overhaul of the existing game. It's not quite making a new game as the original assets could all be used but it's a bigger undertaking than I think you realize.
Same problem like mass effect the background settings had basically no impact across the game.
Im not optimistic about speculation that leads to a lot of work that only fraction of player would notice in one playthrough. That is why theres so little examples where it was done.
I wanna say this is a good idea, but I don't think it fits the NG+ function nor it is what most gamers expected in NG+. What people wanted were a comprehensive "lifepaths" sections & stories. It was literally in the 2018 demo character creation backstory that was cut. Things like childhood hero, key life event, why night city, etc. This also mean actual "starting maps" & lifepath backstory related missions that span over the story campaign.
To Summarized my points, People want a "Dragon Age Origins" prologues, while your suggestion is more of a "Dragon Age Awakening" prologue. It's a whole other expansion with new protag & specific one background, specific key life events & role throughout the campaign, which is in your case being a the role of a "cop" (also in Cyberpunk 2020 roles). It would certainly work as an expansion, not as an NG+ mode. But then again we also get some problems of some gamers would be certainly expecting the continuation for V in the expansions LOL
Next. My solutions to this problems would be making a flashbacks/memories FREE DLCs that expands the lifepath backstory & events. Basically a more comprehensive looks on V lifepath backstory & also adds more stories on what happened between V & Jackie in that time skip footage. This will also work for the lore using the "Braindance" techs that could relive the Here are the details:
First DLC, Lifepath Memories (3-4 hours)
+ There will be 4-5 missions. 2 missions in Prologue & 1 in each Act. Act 2 & Act 3 will give V a bit of closure. Added a small areas or new maps.
+ Nomad: feature what really happened to V's nomad clan "The Bakkers," like how they joined The Snake Nation.
+ Streetkid: feature what really happened to V in Atlanta.
+ Corpo: feature V's life before join Arasaka AKA frienship with Jackie. Also then feature some events in dog eat dog life of Corpo until V became sick from it.
Second DLC, Memories with Jackie (5-6 hours)
+ features some key life events of what happened to them for the past 6-7 months before Act 1.
+ Expands some of the scenes in time skip footage into a full story missions that span about 5-6 missions.
+ Add more time with Jackie while also showcasing the friendship. Maybe also other characters like Misty & Mama Welles.
In conclusion, I would love a specific story lifepath backstory, especially the role of cop & Max-Tac, but it's not fit as an NG+ as it should be a new expansion instead. Hell, my former expectation going into Cyberpunk 2077 after the 2013 trailer was basically that, while the roles (occupations) can be spread into Cop/Max-Tac, Merc/Solo, Rockerboy, Nomad Smuggler, Trauma Team, Corpo.
idea for new game plus: make the game what CDPR wanted to make the game
That would be awesome to have an entirely SEPARATE story taking place years before or after Cyberpunk as a new game+
For Housing (property) & Full Street Race features, that should amounts to OVERHAUL features imo, therefore fit into NG+. I believe V actually have at least 3 "safe houses" & another 1 in epilogue (for Sun Ending). Those places can easily be the advanced housing system that you want.
For a full on Street Race feature, I honestly want more than side missions, like an actual side activities to earn eddies, unique items/vehicles, & limitless. Basically a Street Race Events. The details:
+ STREET RACE EVENTS
– features race modes & tracks on multiple districts (each district provide 3 tracks or so).
– the featured events will be unlocked after "Beast in Me" missions completed.
– some of the events will pop op randomly in semi procedural generated manner even after NG+.
– the tracks consists of 4-5 RACE MODES: Circuits, Sprint/Checkpoint, Eliminator/Last Man Standing, Duel, & Drag
– features 2 different vehicle race modes: car racing & "motorbike" racing.
– CIRCUITS: normal "death race" with laps
– SPRINTS/CHECKPOINT: normal "death race" from point A to point B
– ELIMINATOR/LAST MAN STANDING: death race within laps limit, each lap the last vehicle will blow up (not working) until the last one for the winner.
– DUEL: one on one normal race across Night City, no weapons/attacks involved.
– DRAG: If it's possible a drag (normal) race like NFS Underground 2 with manual transmission added feature.
– Because the existence of "death race." Player get to hire some companions as the "shotgun." The companions will have different weapons & abilities based on the existing combat system.
– REWARDS: MONEY or ITEMS or VEHICLES. car race get cars, motorbike race get motorbikes.
– this featured events will be very much beneficial for economy loop & Fashion meta with your rides.
All of this SIDE ACTIVITIES are very much doable & can be used from the current assets/models the game have.
0:38 You could do that!!?
There are some good ideas here, I just really don't like the concept of discarding the PoV character without V getting some payoff for their struggles.
