In addition to Hungry Gamer SG, Flamecraft also made a SG for new backers to smaller games (Backyard Chickens and Sunrise Market) which was amazing to see!
Thanks for giving Room and Board a shout out. Been watching for a month or so and really enjoy his approach to Kickstarter.
At work, I do 2 formal performance reviews with my co-op students, one is mid-way through their term, and another at the end.
I'll be more critical during the mid-term review, and more lenient on the final review. I tell them this on their first day to set their expectations so they don't feel disappointed.
Basically what this means is when I'm rating a skill of theirs between a "3 or a 4" so to speak, I always give the 3 in the mid-term, but the 4 in the final. This is because I want to encourage them to improve while they are still under my training, and it also enables me to give them the feedback they need to get to that 4 or beyond.
This is a long-winded approach to get to my idea😂 but maybe when you feel like it's a `3.5` rating you could ask yourself "what changes would I need to see to make this confidently a 4?". This way you can officially go with the 3, but then give that feedback and state the changes you'd like to see that would make it a 4 since it's very close to doing so already.
In some past videos I've seen you say things like "this is a 3 but would be a 4 IF…", I'm not sure if it's something you do intentionally but its a really good approach!
I don't think something like this is necessary for games the confidently sit on a number, it's just a strategy for the ones at the `x.5` and a way for you to justify a rating with (maybe?) less bias.
Thanks again for the update… enjoy your 'holiday' days off the coming week.
The way you handle that dice (or similar object), you should be a magician😜 some times it just disappears 🤯
Guess I only buy your 5's from now on, which is still a lot🤪
I don't think people accusing you of being disingenuous because you said you liked a game that basically every reviewer I subscribe to also said they liked are worth engaging with. Anymore than people who would accuse you of being a vampire because there's a photo of you with fangs on the Mythic Mischief campaign page are.
Great content as all ways, and can't wait for the Isofarian Guard content.
No time stamps? Are you ok Alex?? 😝
3 Tale cancelled and all the comments are very supportive. It looks like they're taking backer feedback to heart and will be relaunching on the 16th
12:28 I agree
Pros out way the cons in this instance
To your point of your influence on the backing of games; I remember there being somewhat of an uproar when King of Average made a video telling people to back Stormsunder over Wild Assent. There was a large amount of funding lost on WA and some backers were mad in the comments. KoA also said Lazy Squire wasn't happy with him after that. I can definitely see companies being wary of the 3/5s you give for that reason.
I still backed WA btw, Dinosaur hunting > Story any day for me
On the word ‘bias’…I know this a popular word in our industry right now, but it’s getting over used, I in my opinion, it’s not the correct word for much of what people are talking about. I get why you use it, and it’s great you are being so transparent to your viewers, but I almost wonder if it would be better to put a disclaimer and the beginning, or in the description. Probably is just a ‘me’ thing.
“You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means”
16:00 Thank you for waiting! 🙂
I agree, you have to let these things marinate for a time, before making a judgement call.
Ok, I get it. Devote founds towards Beast KS. 😉
However i still waiting for PM for Valor & Villany, Scarface and Velocity Vanguard. And Black Rose Rebirth looks veeery tempting (although I'm not sure if it not to similar to Witcher: Old world).
Looks like October will be my month od hard decisions
I also really like Room and Board. So cool you’re supporting other up and coming channels.
NFTs are scam!
It's using the very questionable 'technology' of Bitcoin & Co to try to rip people off their money for 'collectables' that exist only in the virtual space (aka not existing).
NFTs are like seeing value in serial numbers on collectables but way worse!
Hey Alex, I know you have mentioned them in the past But Ginger snap gaming's fundraiser store opened this week and they are struggling a bit with it. Would you be able to spread the word in a future video for them? Im not affiliated with them just a fan and am looking forward to Ignite hitting my table in the next few weeks. Thanks man.
Sooooo….. What do you think about "clickbait" titles for youtube videos? I think Shira and you are great, but I had to say good-bye to Jesse. I know he's your friend, but fool me once, not a good vibe. Fool me twice, unsubscribe.
Have you tried Mythic Mischief as a 3-player game? I passed on it because both my regular game groups (well, regular in non-covid times) are usually just 3 players. Mythic Mischief seems best at 1v1 or 2v2.
Happy Rosh Hashanah! (hopefully that's appropriate phrasing)
Terra Mystica 10th Anniversary Edition coming in 2022?
I've been curious about the game, so will probably jump in on that version. Sounds like it's going to have everything and tons of new content.
I don't think you have much of a role-playing audience. I think more are board gamers.
Could be the channel name. 🙂
Regarding CMON NFTs – one of the exciting things in this space is the potential of pegging the NFT to something in the digital realm and potentially in the real world as well. As a hypothetical example – for you holding an NFT of some kind, you might be eligible for a) certain "airdrops" of digital assets/ exclusive content and as an extensive eligible for certain events/physical prizes etc b) it might translate to having cool things or assets in video games in the future (eg. a cool sword that might be transferred from game to game in the same ecosystem), c) it can be sold and transferred between people easily. We're not quite there yet in terms of mainstream adoption and exposure but it'll be a much bigger thing in the future once the blockchain technology gets to where it needs to (currently the biggest most popular blockchain Ethereum is slow, technical and very expensive to use).
One extension into the board game world is the hypothetical example of board games companies "minting" an NFT badge for a game you buy that makes you eligible to join their exclusive group. These badges can be collated and collected via a platform like BGG with its own sub-economy (ie. a blockchain tokenized version of BGG geek gold for example). Further if AR wearables (augmented reality) becomes a thing in the next decade – it'll also have applications here also.
13:51 I may respectfully disagree slightly with this statement. If, in a perfect world, only fantastic games got produced, then surely this warrants 4 and 5 only ratings. One shouldn't feel the need then to "average it out" I feel… and the standard, in my opinion, is improving. Then again, I'm not a board game reviewer / content creator, so I can be more selective about the games I play. Following your rating system, most games I play are 4s and 5s.
Hi Alex,
when can we expect a review for „Clash of Eternia“ from CMON?
I realy want to know your final opinion of this game. I can‘t await the Kickstarter campain to start
At some point i want a before after photo of the kitchen. I somehow feel very invested
Excited for Ankh review since you love area control games !
I know it’s like comparing apples to oranges, but for the $100 pledge, I was expecting a ton of stretch goals just like CMON games. There is one stretch goal for……a music sound track? By now, I was expecting a werewolf faction, Creature from the Black Lagoon faction, etc. But I mostly passed on Mythic Mistics is because although it seems fun, my fiancée, my main opponent doesn’t like games like Santorini. When you can see the mechanism poking out of the theme she tends to spot it immediately. If the make a 2nd volume next year, I might jump on board.
Looking forward to seeing the full review of anhk. I just picked up a gameplay all in pledge for about $200 cheaper tthan what it's selling for on the second hand market and was just going to sell it on, but might give it some plays beforehand if I think it's something I'll like
i really love how well you researched Ankh coming into the game with Jesse/Shira and also tried to share more with the table. Looking forwards to your official review. Just 2 things:
1. please if possible play more higher player count games, not just 2p. Everyone is already unanimously on it being a great 2p game.
2. would be interested to hear your thought on the "mechanics controversy", whether it should be a) overcome, or b) accepted. Of course merge will be featured in your "what I can see others not liking", but the point i'm trying to understand is whether it's a misunderstanding (and hence can be overcome with proper teach/ mindset alignment) or it is a personal preference (so just accept it). Like for people like Quackelope who insists merge to be a pseudo player elimination rather than catch up alliance, do you try to influence them or just let go? Of course it's not a binary answer but I like to hear which side you are leaning 🙂
Cyberpunk 2077 board game? Interesting in that Monster Fight Club just had a minis/board game hybrid of Cyberpunk Red.
And too bad to hear about IDW Games. Guess the BTAS Adventures will be their swan song. I happened to back it, but have been teetering on the idea of selling it before I open it. Now I may keep it for sentimental reasons lol.
