  1. I wouldn't have guessed turning off the hud would be "controversial" lol. I have the hud off, and it's great. I don't wanna stare at a little screen on my screen to know where to go, I wanna look at the environment to figure that out 🙂

  2. Honestly the whole game is annoying, not only the minimap. This discussion must be a joke. Hopefully he does turn off the silly markers on all enemies for immersion, we need it ultra hard.

  3. Not having a mini map in skyrim or the witcher 3… fine, it sort of makes sense to even get lost every now and then and it might even add something to the experience. In cyberpunk 2077 though? makes zero sense when the whole vibe of the game is technology gone berserk and all that. Even now we have a phone that can access google maps and show you exactly where you are in a few seconds… what sense does it make to not have this option in the universe of cyberpunk 2077, it's like role playing a caveman honestly and it adds more frustration than any sense of immersion. It is like saying hey let's get immersed in playing the only dumb ass who gets lost in NC, not sure this makes good watching material but hey you do you.

  4. I don't care about this issue either way. But the Skyrim map in hand is a false equivalency as it has a big fat "you are here" icon front and centre. It'd be cool to have a map in hand mod that's just a map of the area sans icons, and actually there probably already is one somewhere.

  5. Honestly, you made a very good point about being able to see where enemies are on your mini-map. It does feel a bit like cheating and could make the game more challenging with it off. Turning off mine during second playthrough.

  6. I wish the map routing was better, well map design in general. There are time where according to marker position I am very near a location but due to the multi-level city you have to take a convoluted route. You go two blocks away, take a highway interchange, circle around, etc. and end up traveling 500 meters to get to a spot that originally appeared to be 50 meters away.

  7. On that mission for my first character, I managed to drop him off, but he somehow died after the fact so it is stuck on "Wait for Burning Crotch Man to call you." I helped him early on and well before I finally got around to starting the main story. I know it is bugged because on my second character I did the quest again and he actually calls you pretty soon after you drop him off.

  8. I completely agree. On step further would be to be able keybind activation of the minimap. I don’t use a minimap and actually pull off on the side of the road to look at my map when going between waypoints. I hate the idea that you can be driving at 150 mph and turn on your map which effectively pauses the game to let you get your bearings. Just breaks my immersion.

Personally, I always drive in 1st person. I would like it if we could have W/S + mouse steering with a key to enable mouse look. A/D horizontal control feels so clunky.

Bonus: I found out that you can earn street cred by being a Good Samaritan and moving the cars from the road that are used to block traffic by the gang members. After you eliminate the unwanted gang, take a minute or so and move the cars to let Night City traffic flow again and you could be rewarded with street cred. I was and it was a nice little surprise.

  9. Gopher, there is this cool rpg called skyrim where a modder addresses this issue. Skyrim is basically Cyberpunk in a fantasy setting with dragons. And since its an rpg, developers put a whole bunch of junk on the HUD. There is this mod I think you will like called iHud that will fade out the display elements except when its needed. And its even customizable within the menu where you can rebind the keys that toggle your display.

I know you probably never thought of it since all games have hardcoded keys, but somehow this no-name modder was able to figure out a way to program the mod in a way where the user can choose whichever key they want.

  10. I hate how games have gone from "Find out what is going on in this world! Good luck!" to "Chase this marker. Good. Now chase this marker. Shoot this marker. Good boy!"

  11. I mean… I expected gopher to turn off the minimap. I also expected it would lead to issues when the game expects it to be on with the way it provides info. But uhh… I don't come here for optimized gameplay. I just enjoy Gopher's take on things… Which includes playing games like these without a minimap. I wouldn't do it, but I appreciate seeing it and the honest reactions/gameplay experience with it off is kind of interesting to think about from a game design perspective.

  12. I'm surprised that even after all these years you still have to explain yourself to people who disagree with your play style.

And speaking of the minimap, I hate that it doesn't zoom out when you're driving. I have such a hard time driving anywhere because I keep missing the right turn… It drives me nuts. It's as if no one at CDPR has ever played a game where the minimap is actually useful…

  13. I guess my main issue is that there isn't a quick-key for it.

The minimap seems to be the home for several types of notifications. Like I don't know if I've evaded police easily without it. Or how to find the way to a third floor footbridge for an active quest I'd never find otherwise.

As others mentioned, the zooming/driving thing is bad too.

(Although the weird police wanted system is… Another issue).

  14. I do the same with every game. Most games have a toggle like rdr2. I played the Wichter 3 with no mini map. Also Ghost of Tsushima did a great job at using the elements in the world to guide you.

  15. I see your argument. That is why I love single player moddable games. We can each play the way we want. I prefer more information. how you play, and how I play are not forced upon each other and we can enjoy the same framework of the game. You keep being you! Glad to see you are still at it. Keep up the great content.

  16. I think Gopher failed the flaming crotch man mission because he was driving like a legless grandmother, not because of the minimap. He didn't make any wrong turns and opening the full screen map pauses the game, so logical deduction.

  17. This video was released before the let's play and now, 1554 parts in people still say "TURN IT ON YOU'VE JUST MISSED THING X!". I've played the first time with HUD on just because the game does such a poor job on stressing some important options and the journal is pretty poorly executed, and that theres no way to really tell what kinda grenade i'm using, e.g. don't want to throw flashbangs when i want a frag etc. (srsly only two hotkeys????). Now the second playthrough when i don't care about the fights and just want to relive through the story i've turned everything off and it's such a fantastic immersive experience. Yeah there's still the odd marker here and there but as a whole it's so much better to not have a light in my face constantly telling me what to do, where to look and so on. Just regret not being able to play it that way the first time, because where this game failed, in the story and the storytelling aspect it just shines SO MUCH. So much potential gone to waste. So what if it got released a year later? Ughhh

  18. Regardless of Gopher's reasons, watching this series got me to turn the minimap off and it made the driving a lot more interesting and fun. Night City is an interesting place to explore instead of a yellow line I'm following.
