In this video essay, I breakdown the themes and ideas behind Cyberpunk 2077 and the reason why it is that goes beyond its medium as a game.
Rather than focusing on Cyberpunk 2077’s gameplay mechanics, this is more of a philosophical deep-dive into what was the idea behind this game and how it captures the players immersion with its narrative and environment.

Cyberpunk 2077 (2.0) is one of the best games ever made.
still pissed about losing jackie! ill never forget this game.
good game
audio needs to be mixed again
You know I'm starting to think you might like this game
Feels as if the reality is embedded into this game with a little touch of scifi and good soundtracks.
even though im someone that usually skips dialogue in most games, this game made me pay attention, and their anime was insane
Good video
!!
What a wonderful video bro! I couldn't have said it better myself. I just really love this game, It's depth and immersion is unmatched. I can never forget experiencing the ending it for the first time and being faced with the impossible choice, It helped me reflect on what I was going through at the time which made me fall in love with this game so much despite it's flaws at the time. later on when i played phantom liberty and I reached the killing moon ending, I was in utter awe by the choice I took and how natural it felt to me to take this choice without a second thought or doubt. I had to just sit there and think as I watched the rain in game and in real life in the window beside and think.. if i could make this choice if the the stakes were real. I was SOOO immersed and fascinated by the amazing writing and story of phantom liberty, It deserves so much more recognition and praise.
Despite the futuristic dystopian theme of V's story and struggle, It still felt very relatable very human and I can't get enough of the world of cyberpunk! Thank you for making this awesome video, you've earned a sub 🙂
This and Red Dead 2 are the only 2 games that captivated me with both the story and world.
Bro, get a better mic plz. Makes the video seem so cheap…
No way this way 20 hours ago I watched this like 2 days ago. I’ll watch it again though.
Amazing video, perfect description of the game. One thing though, at points when your talking the music is very loud, maybe try to lower music volume when your talking
Your description is spot on, and top tier, and great work for a smaller creator in this space. Idk if you have any experience with this game but I’d love if you covered Legend of Zelda, TOTK or BOTW. Would love your take on those games.
Good stuff. On point with the remarks on theme and attention to detail. Can't wait to see the Witcher videos.
I've just recently passed the 1000 hour point on PC.
My only complaint is that the driving kind of takes me out of the game because it's such a struggle.
I think CDPR should do what they did in Witcher 3, where you can make Roach automatically follow the path by holding down the Left Shift key.
You would still need to hit A or D to avoid hitting other cars, but at least you wouldn't over-steer and end up in the river etc etc.
But yeah, best game I've ever played and I've been playing since Half-Life was released.
A legit review this is, i would say!!!! I someone ask me why i prefer this game more than that of GTA V ( even if i like that too) i will show them this video!!!
Instead of ranting at people about how I feel at this game for 30 mins i'm just gonna send them this video. Thanks for perfectly encapsulating our feelings on this MASTERPIECE
Now play it in VR!
And a thing of beauty .. will never fade away.. I’ve never heard a song describe a game so damn well
lol
USA Simulator 2077
Ive been playing it in VR with high graphic settings. Already one of my favorite games since release. Now, idk its disgusting what im doing.
I waited. I waited until about 6 months AFTER Phantom Liberty came out before buying this game. I knew, after playing the masterpiece of WItcher III, that CDPR would make it right and I was not at all disappointed.
I, like you, feel this game hit me in ways I have never, ever, experienced with any other game spanning more years than most reading this were even alive at the time I began. What made it even more immersive was watching the Cyberpunk series BEFORE even hitting start for the first time. I still hurt from emotional scars, it was so well done. Goddamn that was a good series.
You see, Cyberpunk to me isn't just a computer game. I and close friends played Cyberpunk on Saturday nights, having a few beers, laughing and playing this gritty new game that came out (1988) to take a break from our usual: AD&D. Table top, pencils, paper, dice, and some original material published called Cyberpunk. We thought this looked cool. After playing it, we fell in love with not only the gritty atmosphere, but even back then the story lines were just as involved and intense. When I heard CDPR was going to make it into a game, my heart leapt, remembering all those good times with friends and couldnt wait to see it in the modern interpretations thru the computer screen. It was tough holding out, but my God was it worth the wait.
Anyway, I'm getting too long winded so I'm gonna leave this with: Thank you for this incredibly insightful video that captured every nuance of what I felt playing it the first time, both the OG tabietop and the modern Computer version. You're 100% bang-on with all of it, choom. Godspeed and you got a subscriber.
I feel the same 100%
Not sure about that better burn out than fade away. Vic definitely would not agree with you. Him being basically last one of chums of his youth that is alive, all because all wanted to went big…and some surely did and thanks to him they stayed alive bit longer. And Misty would definitely not agree. Her, first loosing Jackie after she had warned him, which he partialy waved away, but still took to heart as it was his usual way of live. Unlike V, somehow, Jackie was ready to go in every single run. But back to Misty. Her and other mililons of ordinary ppl of NC. Living namelessly. Same goes for Vic, Mama Wales, Rivers sister and her kids preparing diner while somewhere some other runner is again gunning for Big leagues, probably dying in process. This is possibly part of NC you missed in video, but it is also important one. Because when Johny blew up Sakka tower, he also killed lot of this ppl. And thrown NC into age of Red, with big gaping radioactive hole right in middle of the city.basically giving rise of gangs of battlezones that have shaped NC almost as massively as later reconstruction of that gaping hole by Aldecaldos construction workers. Whos again, did much more by being workers than wariors. Nameless operators of big construction machines. So although Afterlife is glorified and sold out Rogue is taking face as leader of rebels, real heroes of NC are its ordinary ppl. (even that their lives are often at mercy of chromed up borgs and runners). Well there is not good ends in NC and there also is no heroes there. But still, some days are good days, right?
