Are Cyberpunks Characters mere Eye Candy? Or is there more to them?
Well..
In this *Judy Alvarez, Panam Palmer, and Kerry Eurodyne Character Analysis* we will be looking at a different angle.

We will be looking at the many flaws of these characters – Not to Put them Down but to further understand them and understand why they feel so “captivating”. – And just appreciate CDPR’s story telling even more.

  1. Very spot on! Love your analysis vids.
So. We got V (the situational facts), Johnny (sad truth), Jackie (wonderfully controversial) and now Panam/Kerry/Judy (very comprehensible). Wonder were you will go with River.

  2. And tbh I hate Panam/Judy simps now. They ruined them with lewd mods. I don’t care that they are 18+

It ruined those characters for me.

And I wish Song So Mi was in main game. Than DLC

  3. A critique of this video is that you didn't really prove that V didn't have Judy's best interest at heart unlike how you proved it with Evelynn and Maiko.

The only way you can romance Judy is by helping her out on a quest unrelated to the one you are on (which is you trying to save your own life), because V wants to help Judy. V would only benefit from not helping Judy, V would gain time (in universe) to do other merc jobs for money and better things, find a cure for themselves, or anything else self serving but they take on this quest to help Judy.

Without better reasoning, it just seems like you put that line in there for shock value.

  4. No, a plan not working doesn't make her a dumbass. She is naive, not a dumbass. She was able to get an experienced merc, and good enough tech, and a smart partner already inside Clouds to do a mission where they would replace the leadership of a big and important place like Clouds. The fact that the plan worked, even if not completely to plan, shows that she isn't dumb.

  5. This is a fantastic and HONEST look at every single love interest. Yep every one of em not a single one missing from the line up 😉

    Poor River, lol.

Seriously though from your videos I've seen I really appreciate you removing those rose tinted glasses we all love to wear for the characters we adore. Like bro came out the gate with one of your first videos being about how Jackie could have maybe been a shitty person. Thats BRAVE But your assessment of Judy is pretty true. I love her character because she wants to make a difference and help people around her but her impulsivity and naiveness doesn't allow her to take into account how fucking horrible some of the outcomes can be. She also over looks the negative traits in a person because she loves their positives more, not seeing how those negatives may be way WAY worse than whatever good they hold (kinda like me and my unwavering love for Takemura )

Speaking of, I know this isnt the topic but this video made me wonder… I am genuinely curious about your take on Takemura as a character. His writers did such a good job on his complexities, they made him so lovable in spite of some GLARING issues we'll just pretend aren't there because those daddy issues are triggered I joke about my love for him a ton with others but from a purely story standpoint, his writing is some of my favorite in a video game because of how unclear it is. Some people adore him and some despise him. But we all had the same experiences with him. Its almost always the same for every play though but opinions widely vary (although as a corpo there is some extra dialogue that paints his views at the end more clearly) Thats fantastic writing. His motivations are so hard to read up to the absolute very end and all you can do is have your own interpretation. They do not make it clear for a second. And that is the center point of his character, completely. You either have to trust he ends up with V's best interest in mind or not. The few things that spell out his true feelings are so small and few and incredibly easy to miss most people never catch em.
My take on him is at the very beginning he intends to manipulate, intimidate, use, and deceive how ever much is necessary to make sure he has V under his thumb and will do anything necessary to help him throughout. V is just a filthy thief after all. He is running solely on his training and survival instincts at that point and the one thing he has as leverage is V's impending death and he fully intends to use that when meeting at Tom's. But as time goes on it becomes clear V is likely one of the only people to treat him like just a normal person, not as some killing machine property of Arasaka and that changes the dynamic. The little exchange in the van on the way to Wakko's when V asks Goro if hes alright speaks volumes to me. He's taken aback, surprised. Meaning he isnt used to anyone thinking of him, his well being. Only what he offers. But because of how clear it can seem at Tom's his willingness to manipulate and use, can we be sure of that? Is there an actual bound and mutual respect forming or is that part of the ploy? That is woven through every interaction with him until the end. Damn thats some amazing writing! I swear its not the pretty eyes but I say this as a huge fan of flawed and complex characters in gaming, you really ought to consider a full video on his writing. I could go on and on but I already have given away just how much time I spend thinking about this game and its writing much more and its gonna look pathetic lol.

Bottom lie, man CDPR writers are some of the best in the industry, I swear.

  6. I just finished my third playthrough a few days ago with the nomad ending, and it made me appreciate Panam's writing even more. She's not just your stereotypical boss girl, strong woman cringey archetype. She's very human. She's very brave and strong, that much is true, but in so many scenes, she expresses a lot of fear and doubt. When Mitch went back to the scorpion, you could hear the desperation and fear in her voice. And I think making these characters layered, partnered with great voice acting, really makes them feel like real people.

  7. Very good, interesting analysis. Cyberpunk's characters are extremely realistic [for the most part] and they are one of the great, unique strengths of the game. Judy is the best drawn NPC character. We find out a lot about her character, her history and family, her joys and pains, and we admire her technical abilities…she's not just shooting aircraft out of the sky. Of course she's beautiful and has a thrilling voice as well. I wonder if she was created with the thought of the kind of naive social idealist type in mind…a good heart but very little practical thinking about how to achieve the kind of world she wants to see.

Panam is also a very attractive character, but we don't find out much about her…no mention of former lovers, any family besides her tribe, her education or upbringing…TBH, I find her combination of impulsive bull-headedness and self-doubt to be a little, well, weird is too strong a word, but it feels 'off'. Despite her obvious attractions, I see her as the kind of girl you have a hot romance with for weeks or months, but end up dumping when you got tired of her crap.

Your discussion of Kerry gives me a bit of extra perspective on him. Doubtless there are people who make it to the very pinnacle of their profession and still feel 'unfinished', and in the shadow of others [I figure Kerry to be about 10 years younger than Johnny] but at the same time I feel that someone pushing 80 y.o. really ought to have figured things out a long time earlier in life. If Kerry was 40, I'd find his psychology far more believable. Plus, I dislike the way he shuts down female V on that club balcony. He had a wife and kids…he's clearly not the kind of gay man that finds women repulsive, so KISS THE GIRL, you fool…even if it doesn't go any farther. I've never explored the story branch where Kerry and male V don't connect romantically…perhaps that would illuminate a few things. I do like that he still has friendly feelings toward V in The Tower ending, distracted and self-involved that he is at the moment. But the Tower ending is a whole other discussion.

  9. No one like River… tbh, beside how badass he is on saving the mayor, he exhibits a safe character. Just a honest desperate cop with family qualities… his 'best' fuckup is in PL ending, and it hurts that my V (which in this version dated River) can't help him out. That is good point that Kerry is the only one care in the end, I always thought he only root for Johnny and not V.
