The Game Awards 2024 opened with the long-awaited first trailer for The Witcher 4.

The sequel to the game that solidified CD Projekt Red as a top-tier studio is now in full production, telling the story of Ciri, the second protagonist from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

VGC recently spoke to narrative director Phillipp Weber and executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga about the return of the franchise, what lessons were learned from Cyberpunk 2077, and their plans to elevate the RPG space in the same way Witcher 3 did a decade ago.

  1. I hope that there will be a lot of content, including more fist fights, horse riding and above all, more NPCs for Gwent. But also many, many more monster contracts. I wish the game was as long as Witcher 3. I know that many people complained that the game is too long, but I hope that even if CDP shortens the main plot, there will still be interesting content for at least 100 hours of the game.

  2. I think they made the right decision to go with Ciri because it makes for more storytelling and a better combat system. I think they pretty much maxed Geralt out in the witcher 3 ITs simply hard to top the witcher 3 with another Geralt story.

  3. pretty sure almost everyone who like witcher world be more than happy to play Ciri since she is also a loved character ! i just more interested what kind of romantic choices she would have. btw for example Cyberpunk 2077 most people prefer the female character vs male character to play . i think Ciri choice is great imo geralt already we know all his powers. i really like how dev talks seems really know what they want to achieve . when game is on steam i pre order just like i did with all their games

  4. As long as they explain how Ciri becomes a Witcher which is friendly w/the lore, all will be well. Avallac'h probably has a hand in it. I don't see Yen or Geralt putting her through the trial, too dangerous. How Avallac'h u ask? Well, he survived the trial. If Yen can do the spells for the trial, u know Avallac'h can and will figure it out, he's a more powerful mage and 100% elf where Yen is only like 1/4. Just a guess. Just make it make sense CDPR (either way)

  5. Witcher 3 was the perfect end for Geralt. And for anyone who wants to play Geralt again, the remake of Witcher 1 will be here eventually. I never played that one so I’m excited for it. As for Witcher 4, Ciri being the protagonist is the right path forward.

  6. if I may give some feedback – in terms in voice actor direction. the antagonist in the trailer could have used some more. “a witcher?..” “it’s tradition.. the chosen one” and so on doesnt fit the serious tone of the rest imho. almost sounds like he does a parody of the lines. as in pitch and rhythm. is it only me?

  7. I wish people would actually listen for once. Most of us who are disappointed, are not against Ciri being the lead. Its that she now is basically just Geralt. We wanted to explore a new story and new gameplay. Finding out with Ciri who she can truly be with her legacy and powers. I was so hyped until I realised she had gone through the trails. Everything Geralt and everyone else did to save, Vesemir dying for her and never wishing this for her, was for nothing. It breaks my heart that they took this path.

  8. I just hope they keep her ability to teleport. fighting like that was so much fun in witcher 3. Although i like the art and the design of Ciri, imho it just doesnt feel 100 % like her. either her look has to be made softer, what would make her more like in the witcher 3, or her voice needs to be more heroic , deeper and darker to fit her style now.

  9. The backlash is ridiculous. Its mostly rage bait culture brainrot from people who are either non fans or casual fans. It was obvious by the end of Blood and Wine that they would go with Ciri as a protag if they ever came back to the series. For sure, some fans are worried about how the game's narrative will justify the decision, but CDPR has never really failed in that department. I can't help but be excited, please take your time with this and give us a banger videogame!

  11. Guys, just let them cook. They know what they are doing, lets not get too many wrong ideas and not rush them. If its anything like TW3 we will have a new trilogy for decades to play and enjoy

  12. unnecessary therapy session, they do not owe anyone any explanation as of now. They believe they make the best game they can like every studio should. And if players will like the game they will buy it, if the players will not like it, they will not. Nothing new here.
