Yahtzee and JM8 got a chance to sit down with CD Projekt RED at GDC 2024 to talk about the redemption arc of Cyberpunk 2077 following the release of Phantom Liberty.

For those of you who just came here for the bewbs, they're @11:16, you're welcome. @SecondWindGroup, if you'd like me to take a look at your videos ahead of release to make sure nothing slips past that the censors might not like, my services are relatively inexpensive 😉
Honestly, this redemption story is probably one of the few things that's let me remain even vaguely optimistic about the games industry for the last few years. 2077 was absolutely fixed and improved upon, and Phantom Liberty was one of the best slices of gameplay I've ever gone through. I can't wait for Orion to be a real thing.
it's actually pronounced Jahtzed.
Cyberpunk is amazing ! I love it ! gg guys ❤
I played from day one. Had some crushes and lost 24 hours of gameplay but i stuck it out. Then watched the anime and wanted more. Then the next gen is still holding phantom liberty hostage
I m so glad that CDpR is comitted to delivering quality. Their games are some of the best I ever played and really have a place in my heart.
Yahtzee going straight for the jugular haha! Love it!
Love to see a team given the chance for a redemption arc rather than the typical corporate cut-and-run! Assuming they can keep it up with the positive changes both behind the scenes and in game, I see a very bright future for them ❤
Seems like a good interview, shame I can barely hear what they're saying. Would really benefit from non-automatic cc.
I’m currently playing through CP2077 for the first time after having purchased it almost 3 years ago (PS4 version now on PS5). What a fantastic experience so far! I played it briefly upon release and I can really say the 2.0/2.1 updates are fantastic, and I’m looking forward to experiencing the story and then jumping into PL afterwards.
Thank you CDPR dev team, I can really feel the love that’s gone into it
I would love to one day hear someone say something like "corporate allowed us to continue to work on this so we did" and not say it like it had anything to do with feelings of the work force. Maybe im just to cynical.
Great interview, cyberpunk is a fun time and night city is an awesome videogame location. The CDPR devs are some of the most passionate in the industry. Also refreshing to hear a studio mass hiring instead of doing mass layoffs.
I really enjoyed the Interview, thanks!
I'll believe nothing they say until I see their next game. CP77 was my second biggest disappointement for a game ( after Starfield ), and it still feels unfinished, and Phantom Liberty was also disappointing with underbaked characters, linear missions, and a plot twist you can see coming from miles away.
With the downfall of Bioware, Obsidian and Bethesda, and CDPR's switch from RPG to GTA-like, RPG fans sure have a hard time finding something good to play outside of Larian games and smaller studios ( Pathfinder, etc. ). Maybe things will change with Dragon Age 4, Avowed and Witcher 4/Cyberpunk 2.
It seems very beneficial they did this rather than straight to Normandy. The US military just wasn't experienced enough at this point.
That really ominous "It's on the list" about the Phantom Liberty review absolutely killed me hahahahahha
Just in case people forgot how bad the launch was after a series of big name bad launches: they had to settle a class action lawsuit for 1.6M$.
give each interviewee a decent microphone next time please, it kills the group dynamic having to pass it around
Oh my god, how on earth are you guys also pulling out amazing interviews like this? It's one thing to have think pieces and short form essays, but this is a entirely different field. Congrats guys, this rules.
Has the PS4 version been fixed as part of the 2.0 update? My partner got my a copy before it came out and I got annoyed at it because of how broken it was, which was sad because I was loving the story that was being told. Gave up after a few hours but I want to go back. Is it worth it or do I wait till I inevitably get a ps5?
It is really based of whoever did the identificator thingies to include the Polish characters in their names. Doceniam.
13:20 "we're all humans" until the AI takes over that is..
I went back to the review, because I wanted to gauge how much discomfort and awkwardness was on the table here. Not that much! It was a rather kind review. It felt more frustrated with bugs than anything else.
FIX YOUR LOD POP IN!
Surely you guys could do a better thumbnail that. Something that’s more encapsulating of the interview.
I’m unusual in that I bought CyberPunk 2077 after watching a bug compilation and was disappointed that my game, for the most part, worked fine. When I played it after they fixed the game, though – the game is legitimately fantastic and I love it.
fine. i'll try phantom liberty after the helldivers hype dies down.
Considering that the current iteration of Cyberpunk 2077 has such phenomenal combat, excellent combat and supporting systems—just about the best in the gaming world right now, the core of the originally launched game was solid despite its glaring lack of polish. Of course, like the Witcher 3, the world building, narrative and characters are second to none.
Great interview. I like that it was an actual interview with real answers and not just ads spouting from the leads.
Since so many of the comments already said that one of the things that helped re-popularize CP77 is the anime, I would like to add another factor that is seldomly talked about – the fans that stuck with the game since release. And this is why I'm so very happy when Pawel Sasko gave a shoutout to the fans during their acceptance speech in The Game Awards. A lot of people think that CP77 was just a dead game before the anime, but in reality, it was averaging 15k per day players in Steam before the anime, and even before patch 1.6 which is the Edgerunners patch. Those numbers aren't bad at all considering that it was an almost 2 year game at that point and it released very badly. These fans have always talked about CP77 which helped keep it alive before of course the massive popularity that the anime and Phantom Liberty brought.
Phantom Liberty review needs to happen. I did not even purchase the game before it and would like to hear Yahtzee's thoughts on the improvements.
