Today, we take a look at the lovable Jackie Welles. While he’s definetly the most loyal friend you can have on any mission, there is so much more depth to this impactful character than meets the eye. In this video, we dive into his life and early years, discussion some of the lesser-known factors and influences that surrounded him. And, ultimately: how they made him into the legend that could’ve been.
I think the fact that Jackie is so well-liked is just a testment to how good CDPR is at writing their characters. Despite the very little time we had with Jackie, he was a true bro. Let me know what you think of Jackie, or this video essay, in the comments below.
Many thanks to everyone for watching. Have a great week, guys!

Thanks so much for watching guys! For anyone interested, I wrote a post-apocalyptic novel, “Caesaria: Book I”. If you like the sound of a Game-of-Thrones-Meets-Fallout-New-Vegas, but in CANADA, this book might be up your alley. 😄 Link: https://www.amazon.ca/CAESARIA-Book-I-Lydi-Scott/dp/173904200X
The arasaka ending with Jackie becoming a engram must be the most chilling thing ever, especially his last words to V are spooky af, cdpr has so.e incredible writing.
Thoughts on T-Bug and by extension the kabuki netrunner fakinh her death? I bring it up because she seems more competent than anyone in the crew at that point in the narrative, and I find it hard to buy that she wouldn't know what Dex was up to
Jackie has AA secret deal with Arasaka in my opinion
This is an excellent analysis of the tragic life of Jackie. Great video!
I have a headcanon that Dex always planned for the hiest to be his last.
His reputation was destroyed and when his back was to the wall he said he chose the quiet life.
My headcanon is he hired V and Jackie because they were the right combination of disposable and competent, he hired bug because she was a hacker, he would need one of those, but he also figured she was probably going to fry and arasaka's systems.
His plan was to take out V and Jackie and then take the chip and sell it off as quick as possible, probably hire a ripper to change his appearance, fake his death, maybe take out the ripper to tie up any loose ends, which is why V and Jackie walk into the tower with no facial coverings and no disguises except a suit, so arasaka would have their faces, then he would probably leave the city behind.
How the whole things plays out only really works if you believe Dex never intended for Jackie, V, and Bug to live by the end.
U guys know its fiction right? Lol
Lov the vid keep up the good work
this made me like jackie a lot more, i loved this!!
Wait…. I just realized you’re the Skyrim chick! Rad video! cx
Love all ur cyberpunk content excited to see whats next
We knew he was going to die, it was in the trailer, and yet it was painful to watch him die.
The red lights gave me chills cuz im on my fifth playthrough and i never noticed that i remember the conversation but i never put two and two together
You sound like a slightly more educated pokimane
Edit: this came off as an insult or a backhanded compliment but it was honestly the first thing that came to mind.
Growing up where i did was rough, and i knew a guy a lot like Jackie. He was someone who was involved in some bot so great thins but i saw how he used it to pass out toys, food, and meds to people who needed it. He did his dirt but at his core i think he was a genuinely good person right up until the day he died. Jackie as a character hit so different.
Fantastic video, just started a proper playthrough after only olaying a little when the game first came out. Excited for more. 🔥
nice video
I love your videos but I'm sorry but WHY DO THEY SIT SO PRETTY THO!?!!?!
Spoiler
You should always give jackies body to his mother for all the reasons, but any other option results in arasaka turning him into a construct to extract heist information
It wouldnt have made up for the clear melancholy of choosing to give johnny your body, but if V as a construct renunited with jackie by way of alt, I think it would have made this choice more impactful and muddies up what the real best choice is. Jackie, even in this twisted misinterpretation of what is not at all him as a construct, would likely still believe there is a way out. Just as he did his whole life. Giving a helpless V the boost he needs to deal with… What seems to be hell. And alt as the devil. Forever? Probably not. But maybe a missed opportunity here. Jackie sure would love to hear how you took down arasaka tower.. how you became a legend
Really good analysis!
Jackie couldn't do it on his own, and he knew that. Someone else pointed out that Jackie had been running the streets as a merc for YEARS before V returned, yet had no real name for himself. But V returns to NC and, six months later, they're getting latge jobs? V helped elevate Jackie.
He definitely knew he was dead the moment he got shot. Even though he doesn't take another hit, he tells V he can "see how the chips are falling". He's got his head in the clouds, but he also has a keen sense of reality when it comes to merc work. He acts like Superman but knows he's just Jimmy Olsen.
Great video.
Only thing I have to say is in Misty states Jackie's father was abusive until one day Jackie beat his father up and threatened to kill him if he did it again. He even went so far as to keep his father's belt to use it to beat him if he returned.
Jackie only has two things to remind him of his father, the first is a photo, and the second is his father's belt, the belt that he used to beat his father with before saying that if he returned then he would kill him, it was implied that his father was abusive, especially to his mother
The part where you can talk to Jackie's own Engram in mikoshi makes me so sad 😭 if you needed a refresher why you were doing all this that was it
the PL ending where Misty is wearing Jackie’s jacket while leaving NC forever is even more sad but fitting for their characters 😭
the running theme of night city is literally get rich or die trying lol
YES! Why aren't the cutscene parts playable x.x was hoping they'd be dlc but no. Amazing video!
If the video doesnt exist already i'd love to see you cover the VooDoo Boys, people really hate them and it saddens me to see how people hate them even though they're just looking out for their own after losing their only home
Hm, now I never actually believed this… but I've entertained the thought that the reason Jackie installed the biochip without a second thought was… well, he didn't want to get left behind.
If you think about it, the biochip was his only guarantee that V would do everything in her power to get Jackie out of there. After-all without it all of this was for nothing. Jackie was hurt bad, he knew it. He knew his odds of getting out were slim. Maybe give V a bit more incentive? Screw what the biochip could possibly do to him if he was literally dying.
Not to mention that old canard "Possession is 9/10th of the law." All he had to do was get out of Konpecki somehow with the biochip and he thought he was set for life.
Then again a he was dying he did the noble thing and gave V the biochip. Didn't need it anymore and the biochip still needed a head to nest in. Might as well give it to his bud so it didn't go to waste. And that's all she wrote.
Buuut I don't believe it like I said. I think he installed it in order to protect V from any weird side-effects since he knew he was donzo already.
Ngl he kinda reminded me of my father with the emotions, not in the readiness to protect and fight tho, mine's anxious af and probably wouldn't handle conflict well. But the viibe of an adult with teen like emotions who gets into things without significant strategy relates. Sadly tho, until very recent massive failures in life he'd been a lil closer to Jackie's father as well. Only to finally see himself clearly after things hit the fan.
Just think, jackie was minutes away from having johnny trying to take over his body
It's crazy how well cdpr made these characters likeable in such a short time. By the end of act one I was choked up at Jackie's death and didn't buy anything until I paid vic back..
Not so sure about that. I think he was using V.
I just discovered your channel and I honestly thought you had way more subscribers. Your content is very well made and super entertaining! Also your narration is really amazing! Can't wait to hear more!
This was an awesome video! I watch a lot of these styles of videos and it felt just as researched and well-presented as a 1 mil sub channel
