FWIW this is what I think of CD PROJEKT RED’s RPG Cyberpunk 2077 & the backlash it received.
Is it really one of the best RPGs of all time? Was the backlash deserved?
If you haven’t played it yet, give it a month or two for the update and expansion to launch to get the definitive (hopefully) experience.

LOL
I apologise for this huge comment but as a console peasant I now play this game on XSX and when non-gaming people want to see the state of the art of console games I show them this.
I've played it on a 3090ti and while raytracing is very next-level and totally gorgeous the rasterised presentation of the Series X is totally comparable big pc cards with raytracing off and I get a beautifully smooth 60hz (at least if you have a VRR TV) so the 3090ti I played on was only gaining RT and framerate that I dont need while it lost 55 inches of display which I value highly. (But I'm SO jealous of mods)
But on day one I played on a lowly X1X and since I was still used to 30hz I was blown away from the start and somehow only noticed 3 bugs and luckily had no broken missions.
Jackie lay on an invisible lounge, npc cars ground themselves to bits on certain safety rails and V was bare assed on motorbikes.
I know it was ultra bad on base consoles but dozens of youtube guys trashed its presentation on X1X and PSpro but like me, many of them and tons and tons and tons of other gamers played Far Cry 3 on X360 back in the day and LOVED it and it ran MUCH worse. (And we played it happily despite all the pc guys scoffing loudly🤓)
Day 1 the game blew my mind and still does, the bugs were amusing or hilarious and I miss all the dildos.
TL/DR: Imo the game's 3 greatest barriers are;
1) that there's a pandemic of group-think or opinion appropriation these days.
2) younger dudes just take so much incredible, mind-blowing tech for granted.
3) CDPR were, to be fair, deceitful corporate rats when it came to the base console releases.
Very good review. Well done sir.
Hey Tez! Love your videos. So excited for Phantom Liberty. Keep up with the amazing content!!
Cyberpunk 2077 is in my TOP10 of all time and I've been playing for 25 years on basically every major console released since the early 2000. I went in without watching the gameplay demos or video reviews.
It was so strange reading comments on the internet from people who didn't even give the game a chance, basically saying the game was "unplayable" and full of "game breaking bugs" or that it felt empty, while I was having the best time in a game for the first time in years. I'm glad they started being appreciated after the release of the anime,
even though it feels wrong hearing people say that "now the game is finally playable", while the only thing they changed is transmog (which I'm not a fan of), a couple extra player apartments and the shadow of the player that finally now has hair.
I can't wait for a real sequel and I hope they reuse the map, so they can focus more on immersive details, NPCs amd enemy intelligence and maybe some of the RPG aspects like Cyebrpunk RED.
I'm lucky to have had a brand new Ryzen 9 gaming PC when it launched. I completely understand the majority of people who had a PS4 and hated the game when it launched, but I've been told many times online I have bad taste because I enjoyed the game when it released. I'm sorry that those people didn't have a good experience but I absolutely did.
So I played it on PC. Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB Ram (3200 with a 3666mhz oc CL14), RX 6800 (non-xt), and didn't have major issues. The launch may have been a mess but I don't think it should have ever, EVER released on last gen consoles. It was a disgrace to even waste time on it ps4 and xbox one versions. That being said, I have at least 300hrs on it. I loved it since day one. The very few bugs I did run into I just thought they were funny like Bethesda's reputation for funny bugs. It still was a great game beneath the launch conditions, and it still is.
This game really is great. Looking forward to the expansion-update. I always upload my save game after leaving the game, just in case anything happens, i can just reload my save file…🎉🎉🎉
Hahah! Funny title 🙂
It's been 3 years already?
I couldn’t have said it better myself! Too many people get on the hate train!! Bottom line play what you like . I’ve played since day one even through all the bugs and still enjoy it to this day. Can’t wait for the new DLC!!Keep up the good work Choom!!
Appreciate your work, mr Tez. Peace and love 🤙
i wish they game had more time to develop they where working on the engine at the same time if they waited the game could of looked even better like the cinematic trailer even all u want now is everything they promised like 3rd person cutscenes car customisation weapon customisation and they should add the old lighting like in e3
I was able to love the game in spite of how bad the PS4 release was. Granted, I wasn't there for the day one horridness, but let's be honest, the PS4 version still isn't anything great and sure as heck wasn't when I played it. Now I'm on PS5 and with the free upgrade the game is even better than ever and I love it so much!
Loved this video! From The title of the video to points you make and the way you took the time to do absolutely as much you can do in the game! Great video Choom!
Great review. People bashing it at this point? They almost have to want to be mad. They got taken for a ride by marketing execs; that's hardly anything new to most industries. The launch was rocky, for sure. But it is a masterpiece of a game that stand on its own merits. Also, phantom liberty might really pump some love in to this thing, if it goes off well!
I watched an interview with a dev from Civilization that changed my view on bugs. He explained that it's impossible to test a complex large game for all bugs or even more then half of them. It's just a fact of labor, if they had a team of 20 people testing the game as a full time job(people need days off, emergencys, ect..), they might have a combined 20k hours hands on with the game. At launch if they sell 100k copies, in the first hour of it's release the players have already had more then 4X the amount of time hands on with the game.
Love yr vids 🎉
Great reviews but I've seen way better gameplay walkthroughs in far more interesting locations. It almost doesn't really shows off what you're saying about the city. Damn.
The hate for this back in 2020 was crazy, I remember getting my copy and had paid no attention to any of the hype through 2017-18-19 , I hadn't seen hardly anything other than a bit here and there showing the style and rough gameplay. I was mainly just thinking the expectations were raised to pathetically unrealistic ideas , the hype was INSANE (like being able basically to live, eat and exist in a virtual city contained all on one disc) the bugs were a problem but enjoyed my first (very restricted) playthrough on a PS4 from 2015. The shit people were coming out with was ludicrous, I grew up playing old school games on Amiga, loving games like Rise of the Dragon and Wing Commander, The problems I had were lack of choice in character roleplaying and rpg mechanics, which could be worked around in playstyle and avoiding main quests. Overall was blown away by the ambition and scale of Cyberpunk 2077 at launch despite big issues which for me- many of the biggest issues had been solved in the first patch.
I just love this game. Every game has bugs, I don't care
Great review Tez, What was your favourite or memorable cyberpunk themed game / games from your childhood / early / old school years of gaming? Cheers
I love your take. My experience with Cyberpunk 2077 was always really good, but I had a fast machine and 3080 at launch, so that helped a lot.
That said, I definitely disagree about some of your points. I finally played RDR2 this year. In terms of overall gameworld immersion, characters, and dialogue, RDR2 raised the bar, and nothing else I've played has touched that game in those aspects. This, keeping in mind the Western genre isn't really my thing. All great games, though, and Cyberpunk 2077 truly gives an insane amount of player choice, is great to look at, and does many things well.
Your videos are some of my favorites to throw on the second monitor while I run around Night City on my nth playthrough trying x new build, so I wanted to say thanks for all the effort you've put into this game and its community. Keep doing what you're doing!
Great review Tez! You make good arguments for and against certain things. You always put out great content brother!
👍Well said, my friend.
I agree with your 9.5.
Well… maybe 9.4.

I loved the game since launch. Played it on the PS5 and it would crash every 30-45 mins, still loved it. Definitely frustrating but the game was just so good.
Oddly some of my favorite games I still play very often are initially received poorly. Fallout 76, Cyberpunk, No Man’s Sky, etc.
But fortunately for me and unlike many people I’m able to form my own opinions. Too many people will use other peoples opinions as there own unable to understand the YouTuber they are basing their opinion on is motivated to be negative because that receives more clicks. Then as the games get better (bug fixes, etc) and more positive reviews come out they all of a sudden like the game more even though nothing has really changed.
Good video btw, good luck with whatever you got going on. I feel your channel will do great regardless, maybe just more slowly than you’d like.

u did the gandalf im so proud.
I played from day 1 and have seen the negative stuff around the game persisted even so and loved the game I have 1394hrs in CP2077 and that's multiple replays and just messing about with it and then of course I modded the crap out of the game and made it suck even more of my time away, and it has been that rare thing that it makes me feel like I am living another person's life. I love V more so the female version of them because the voice actress did a great job of me caring about her as a person as well as the people she actually cares about as well too.
The complexity of the game is nuts and NC as city's go feels like it was built by real people greedy and corrupt people but all the same it makes no illusions about how messed up the world is at that point in time in that universe you only have to see snippets of news on TV or what you hear on the radio that that world is in a bad way and getting worse. To me, it kind of acts as a warning to us now not to be complacent and not to give up the beliefs we have and hold dear either. Sure, the launch was a mess, but the game has redeemed itself.
HI Tez….GREAT commentary, as always. After more than 2800 [!] hours in this game, I can equally say that it changed my life, or at least added a highly valued segment to it. No, the game isn't perfect, but it's beyond good. My greatest fear after playing this game is that I'll never find anything to play that equals it.
Thank you a million times for this… On-point from start to finish. The haters have two choices… either stay ignorant or learn how to think for themselves and at least try it.
Thank you choomie for this lovely video, and I wish you all the best for the future. Really looking forward to your take on Phantom Liberty! <3
Damn now i wanna do a Food Vendor playtru 😛
I would like to say personally like cyberpunk 2077 despite the release benig glitches and bugs and it was one of my more hyped up game before Starfield ( my most hyped up game of this year and the only one I've been looking forward to the most)
good review but my only complaint is the footage you're using because you could have shown some action sequence or at least some game played at least represents what the same in your talking about instead of for the most part just you just simply walking around (I know you want to keep this spoiler free but still)
anyways can't wait for Phantom Liberty DLC ( I'll be starting a second playthrough because of the rework and DLC) as well as Starfield and September is going to be packed. ( I'm going to be out of social media for a month or 2 aside from some exceptions) but for now I am this August is going to be armored Core 6
If you're asking what about Baldur's Gate 3. i will play it at some point but I'm not really feeling like crpg is right now ( aside from Pathfinder Wrath for the righteousness as well as pillars of eternity 1 and 2 because avowed existence and maybe Wasteland 3 since have the exact same people who worked on Fallout)
Seeing that phantom liberty has alot of content that was promised in the trailers and is next gen only, pretty much confirms the theory on having to cut the game back for last gen consoles
Thanks
Yes being with the game since launch and having been through the Witcher 3 downgrade and a fan of Witcher 2 over it any day, it is important you set the narrative for everyone
The game deserves much love
Best review from the most interesting content creator
I do not like cyberpunk, the story is too short and seeing what the game cut out makes the finish problem feel hollow, but even when refunds rolled around for the game I couldn't bring myself to take it back. A part of this game hooked into me and now all this time later I am on my fifth playthrough and eagerly await phantom liberty.
I know it probably will never happen but a deus ex cyberpunk collab would be amazing to see
I think this review is spot on, I just started playing it this year. I was really looking forward to the game coming out but as a PS4 player, I decided to wait until the game was playable and avoided spoilers. I play it on a PS4 Pro and… there are issues, but it gets the job done and I love this game. This game alone has me considering a PC instead of a PS5 for my next platform. Just want to add that I think this game deserves credit for having fairly satisfying platforming elements to it.
