Indefinitely. When CD Projekt Red’s (CDPR) tentpole release, Cyberpunk 2077, was removed from the PlayStation Store in December of last year, Sony didn’t even hint at a date for the game’s return.

While some thought it would be back up in short order, others had some significant doubts.

But how long is long enough? While we now have our answer, it only leads to more questions.

Never has a mixture of hype, hyperbole, and hubris been so potent…in Virtual Legality.

  1. I did not expect Sony to take back Cyberpunk 2077. Seems like the reason would obviously be for money and for the players, but who is really going to be buying this to make this worth it? I would think that the only people would be very very casual players, who have somehow not heard about all the mess that happened. That however to me feels like taking advantage of old people by pretending to be Microsoft/IRS, even if CDPR has somewhat "fixed" the game.

  2. I get that hype was a big part of it, but a lot of aspects of CP2077 was behind even games from 20 years ago. The stealth system was worse than what you'd find in stealth games, the rpg aspects were worse than what you'd find in pretty much any first person rpg, et cetera. It was a very standard game in most aspects, still enjoyable but it didn't really do anything well except for the visuals and maybe the story. It's such a shame what this is going to mean for for the company.

  3. I understand why Sony pulled it, I'm also really surprised that they would bring it back and also explicitly state that there will still be performance issues… It seems like there must have been some stuff behind the scenes there whether it was Sony crunching how much money they might make off it or negotiations with CDPR or something. The game still has so much potential, I'll be keeping my eye on it.

  4. 9:54 😂 I know it's corporate speak, but anyone who has ever tried to get a refund from Sony knows how terrible they are with refunds and how much they hate giving them.
If they could get away with selling a broken game they would. Like every other corporation. Luckily the backlash from players and the desire for refunds forced their hand.
I'm guessing they brought it back and will use the disclaimer of saying it's best played on PS4 pro and PS5 to avoid any further refund requests.
Edit: I see you already mentioned the last part of my comment. Guess I should have waited 😂

  5. None of the clickbait gaming channels on my homepage were fast enough to merely report that this happened, and you beat them to the punch with a legal analysis to boot? You're kicking ass and taking names!

  6. I've said it before, and I'll keep pointing it out:

SEEDY Projekt Red has a record of failed games. 6 of the 7 games they released before CyberJUNK were failures. By their own metrics and admission. That is a 14.728% success rate. And when you add in their latest abject failure, that record drops down to 12.5%.

As garbage as EA, Take 2, Ubisoft, Bethesda and other Triple AAAY publishers are, at least they have above a 50% success rate at making games sell. Let alone breaking 15%. How SEEDY Projekt was ever considered on their level is beyond me.

  7. I still think Cyberpunk was worse than a Bethesda release because it crashed like crazy. I was still getting regular crashes a month after release, even had some on Series X after upgrading.

  8. Still waiting for the next generation patch that they said would be there like 3 months ago. At this rate the game will probably be on game pass by the time I play it

  9. Hoeg will you be doing an episode with your brother on games you're looking forward to from this year's E3? There's an insane amount of interesting indie games covered this year. L&R

  10. Fascinating how this still grabs our attention, I mean 6 months is a long time, finished playing it in December and never returned. Comparing the little memories I have left of my playthrough with the news since then, the news outweigh the product itself largely, which is a good thing by the way, have learned a lot from your vlogs, thank you!

  11. You know what I just realized Richard? In 8 episodes your Epic v. Apple playlist will be just 10% of your total output. And the worst part is, having seen every single episode, that I can't accuse you of having milked that particular cow dry since every new episode did in fact add something to our understanding of the situation, and in the case of us non Americans, an deeper understanding of the american legal system. But still, 50 episode. I dunno what's harder to believe, that I watched them all – at x2 speed – or that you recorded them all – at real life, normal speed.

  12. I got banned from the Minnmax discord for basically taking the line that CDPR fucked up but that if you had PS4 Pro or 5 then it was fine. They could not handle the idea that the PS4 was underpowered even at launch. Sony made the situation when they went for a mid gen upgrade. CDPR was just the dev to fall into the trap.

  13. Sony out extra on it because they was in marketing with Xbox . I feel anyway. I look at the mess of returnal and they took their time and was quiet with that but hey it is what is

  14. Yeah I think this is Sony protecting the image of their brand in the fact at the time they didn’t want to say no to cyber punk because it would have cut off the perception at the time that the base PS4 can run new games.

I totally understand the frustration of the base PS4 users, but yea probably time to move on? ( oh wait everything is scalped away)

Considering those ports generally happen a year after the major release…

    11:40 pretty much nails it.

  15. The ship has sailed. They wanted it out in 2020 because of nostalgia for Cyberpunk 2020. They betrayed the premise and everyone knows it.

Retrofuturistic nostalgia for the year 2020 stopped being fun six months ago.
