  1. no censorship on any level is acceptable – game got raiting not appropriate for children and thats it. Censorship is ruining the vision of the creators. About his specific ad in the game – how else are going to make an AD about ANTISUICIDE pills? WHole world of cyberpunk is DISTOPIA – society is falling appart, its extremely hard to get by (we are not even talking about becoming rich – just hard to get the ends meet) and in all that ITS INEVITABLE that suicide rate will be HIGH and its INEVITABLE that corporation will make drugs to PROFIT ON IT. WHole world of Cyberpunk is basically telling you – EVERYTHING IS OWNED BY CORPORATION and they MAKING PROFIT OUT OF ANYTHING!
Also there are quests in game about finding makers of CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, PRODUCERS OF SNUFF PORN and list oges on and on and on – all that is PART OF THAT WORLD: totaly decay of human SOCIETY while corporations are at its historical peak of political and economica power. To censor it – is to simply kill part of the world that creators MADE, this part of UNIVERSE.
So get real – censorship is a cancer to an art – thats that.

  2. My cousin's boyfriend committed suicide while I was in middle school and that shit really affected me. I have been very adamant against it since and only one time in my life have I known someone that committed suicide and I was able to empathize with it, which was when my ex's step-dad committed suicide. So that imagery is pretty offensive to me. But I still say it should be able to stand. It could influence people potentially, but it could the other way as well and serve perhaps as a wakeup call. Either way I will defend this image even if I hate it.

  3. There is clear evidence that suicide that happens in games or in any media, like news, it will cause a chain reaction. I am almost sure that Sony has no idea this ad even exists in cyberpunk(At least I hope they don't know about it), it's a huge game.

  4. The thing is “Kids” shouldn’t play ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ or ‘Martha is Dead’. These games are clearly meant for mature audiences and it’s the Parents responsibility to evaluate what they should/shouldn’t buy for their kids. ESRB, PEGI and CERO exist for a reason, they determine what content falls under what age demographic.

My Dad didn’t allow me to buy GTA V back when it came out because I was 13 years old at the time. I was pretty mad at him but now I understand that he did the right thing.

  5. The scene in question on Martha is dead is still in the game. They didn't remove it, they just prevented it from being an interactive scene. I think I can get the same level of enjoyment out of that scene without 'press square repeatedly' to cut off face!

This feels like much ado about nothing. PlayStation as a platform is home to some of the most violent games. Film has been censored and in some cases out right banned, it happens when boundaries are pushed to an extreme.

  6. I don't give a flying fart about what kids see in an M rated game or an R rated movie. IT'S NOT FOR THEM. If they're seeing it, then someone wasn't doing their job. The "think of the children" excuse is absolutely moronic.

  7. While I agree that there is inconsistency in terms of the justification of censorship, i imagine intent is key here. It's probably easier for Sony to see an ad like this in cyberpunk (as most ads in cyberpunk) as satirical or ironic, infused with dark humor, much like all of the more salacious ads in cyberpunk. I can't imagine if someone is on the edge, a sign like this is the thing to tip them over it.
Martha is dead however, is meant to disturb and unsettle, and perhaps Sony anticipates it may be too much for impressionable minds.
I dunno … Just playing devils advocate here.

  8. Jaffe what if it's really is about the money/shock value because doesn't Sony get a piece of the pie every time a game is sold? Cyberpunk can get away with it because it sold millions of copies and will sale millions more but the Martha game is a small indie and Sony might not want some people put off by the gore of the scene what would cause the game to sell less copies and it won't do game busters already? Also wasn't there a controversy over a person wearing another person face in a game that the game devs had to take it down, maybe that's another reason Sony doesn't want the bad publicity after doing so well with uncharted movie and games and horizon dropping. They wanna ride the good publicity wave right now.

  9. Cyberpunk I believe is made by Polish developers? It would be nice for once to hear Americans give their opinions without thinking America is the only country that exists, and instead think about things on a global scale and from different countries perspective. After being on social media for a few years it's become quite nauseating how Americans thinks everything is about them

  10. Maybe they chose to censor Martha is Dead due to the fact it's a tad tactless to have a British dev giving the player the ability to desecrate the wartime corpse of an Italian and peel off her face…

  11. That's just a poster. There are a few games off the top of my head that had suicide that were Sony games.
Last of Us had won multiple GOYT awards and got a sequel features a man killing himself with a gun.
God of War 3 Kratos seppukus in the ending.
Metal Gear Solid 4, Snake puts a gun in his mouth in a lengthy cutscene.
All Sony exclusives and high selling and highly praised games and probably more effective on a developing mind than just a poster if you want to go that angle.
I think it comes down to developers that have more of a pull in the industry have more power when it comes to negotiating their vision and the importance of the scenes and the context in their vision of what the game is. And once you start censoring these larger triple A games they'll be less willing to take risks to push the envelope and make something truly unique and invoking the correct response from the player.

I haven't played the game you are mentioning. But it could also be that the scene didn't serve a greater purpose in the story and removing it didn't change any impact of the story they were telling and it was egregious just for the sake of being egregious along with them being a smaller developer.

  12. If sony censors a Juggernaut title like GTA, Assassin creed, witcher 3/cyberpunk on their platform while these same titles are uncensored on their competitor's platform, they will get a lot of bad press cause these are established IPs with a dedicated vocal playerbase. Sony is like a bully picking on the small guys who can't defend themselves cause they know their brand will get a lot of negative press from players of these franchises and they will be memed for the rest of their days if they try their censorship bs on the big AAA titles that feature explicit content.

  13. I always find strange when politicians or news outlets or anyone else that wants to censor stuff like this. Meanwhile the first half of the news is all murder and rape. News outlets cover wars showing drone strikes which kill people by the hundreds and politicians send young men to war. Is this bizarro world?

  14. I appreciate that you’re still making noise about this. It’s kinda a bummer that more YouTubers aren’t raising awareness of this. Mystic actually did a hefty video about it too. Sony won’t hear us unless many people make their disdain heard.

  15. I think Sony should stop trying to be big brother to grown ass adults. Mortal Kombat and Night Trap gave us ESRB for this specific reason so people like me back in those days couldn't buy games that we weren't old enough to play now that I'm an adult and can actually buy these games Sony is trying to censor things for me A GROWN ASS MAN is what pisses me off personally.

  16. If you walk around Night city and don’t get offended by all the public porn ads or grotesque food commercials then it’s not doing its job… I agree with you, Sony needs to shut the fuck up about censoring people’s art and risk messing up a story and they pick and choose who’s art gets censored.
