Starting to think that a Cyberpunk game from an multimillion dollar corporation maybe the equivalent of minting an NFT of the Amazon Rainforest in the name of environmentalism. Whoddaguessed.

  1. ironically when I played this quest I used corpo dialogue to initially bargain with Forrest, before changing my mind and killing him (because for real, he deserves it), but then all later dialogue reacted as if I’d spared him, to the point where I got an opportunity to kill him again later, and I was honestly just left wondering whether what happened was a bug or CDPR literally just did not think it was possible for someone to change their mind after making a decision

  2. Why do you assume that CDPR workers are being exploited? CDPR wages are quite high for Poland – see on glassdoor portal. All personal authors rights (including mine as corporate worker) are still mine and only material/profit rights are transferred to corporation + the NDA not to share sensitive/non public information. So every creator/author has right to their creations and portfolio, showing a released game/product and telling "I did this or that". CDPR workers do that: name of music author is listed there on yt/spotify and every developer is listed in game credits. It's worth noting that CDPR as a company makes a game about too powerful corporations that try to alter human minds to gain power and profits, but CDPR isn't Arasaka, as this world is not cyberpunk world, also CDPR didn't invent the cyberpunk universe and concepts – Mike Pondsmith did. Would you expect that someone created a huge game like this for free as open source? All in all – your statements do not stick to truth.

  3. This feels so relevant with the news of Kentaro Miura's passing from a health issue thats extremely tied to stress. The man gave us Berserk, a work of art and incredible emotion, and killed himself doing it. Or rather, the horrific conditions and pressures of the industry did. I would have gladly never had Berserk, or HxH, or any of these works if it meant that the creators wouldnt have their health destroyed. It isnt worth it.

  4. This seems like a pretty juvenile take, I think proven by the fact that the entire video could've been 7 seconds long with the words "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" displayed on screen (like you did, in the latter half). That's basically the zeitgeist of videogame journalism right now. Video game companies bad– corporations bad– artist who work on games good. Treat them better please. The audience applauds.
At the very least hopefully that message reaches more people, so sorry if I'm being overly harsh.
That said, I don't think the environmental pressures under which art is created invalidates its meaning or it's message except in rare and extreme circumstances. That's a step too far, and humoring it to an overly severe extent (imo your Persona and Square Enix examples) will systematically root out and kill the transcendental experience we all look for in art.
That mode of thought is a despair machine with no particularly useful insights.
Additionally, if that's the case, then any piece of media that has something critical to say about capitalism (or any aspects of the modern human experience) are immediately invalidated, considering both the artists and ourselves live and produce under those paradigms.
Not only is there no art that will pass this purity test, there are surely no humans who pass it either.
You cannot escape it, so you must bargain with it, and keep stubbornly making art, participating in the collective dream of meaningful change that might never arrive. Depict heaven, depict hell, so that we might know ourselves.

  5. A few things… firstly I think you're a bit too hard on this game, yeah CDPR shat the bed, but it's not nearly as bad as people keep making it out to be, nor is it likely that the crunch is anywhere near as bad as people paint it to be..
Really though, the moment you lost me in this video was the 'there is no ethical consumption under capitalism' load of wank. I think you and a lot of other people have confused capitalism and corporatism.
To clarify; Capitalism is just the principle idea of private ownership of the means of production for the pursuit of profit. There is nothing inherently unethical or immoral about the idea of people owning private property, and using their private property to generate income. Corporatism meanwhile is the thing you and everyone else who isn't holding a seat at a large organization actually hates, the monopolization, the exploitation, the excessive greed at the expense of common decency and good. That is corporatist philosophy, centralization of socio-political and economic power away from the masses, away from small honest business owners into the hands of the sprawling corporations. For you to flat out state that there is NO way to ethically conduct business under capitalism, it's not only demonstrably false… it's also incredibly reductive and stifles conversations about the merits and flaws of capitalism.

That is you essentially saying that anyone running ANY kind of business, no matter how they run it, is a bad person. If you genuinely think that, you are an idiot. I'm sorry but there's no nice way to say that.

  6. 13:09 Clouds is actually there to get you to reveal secrets that the Tyger Claws or any other party hacking their information can aquire (like a sex club video taping everything for blackmail purposes).
Consider the irony of giving multimillion dollars bonus' to the few top brass at CDPR while paying the programmers less that normal wages, and taking the governments millions yet failing to produce what is promised (can anyone say fraud?).
Love the game but find plenty about the company that sux. How about nerfing the games Netrunner builds and free legendary arms stuff instead of working on the failure to have a police response system that was achieved quite well in 2013 in GTA 5, lack of immersive NPC interactions, etc. RPG? really no choices change anything (with very few exceptions). They couldn't even match what they created in Witcher 3 years before, why?
The message to games is that everything you do to have a more moral just society is a wasted effort, Johnny taking down Arasaka tower did nothing, changed nothing, Far Cry 5, after taking out all the Peggies who are kidnapping, and drugging the locals nothing matters as a nuclear holocaust finishes off everyone, Far Cry 4, after defeating one evil tyrant (Pagan Min) his replacement (Amita or Sabal) are both worse towards the locals than Pagan was. Very few games display a better future after working through them to eliminate evil tyrants, what are the developers trying to pass on to the gamer?

  7. u know wuts super weird is i saw the Nezha: Reborn movie on netflix and imo that movie genuinely has a better cyberpunk story to me than cyberpunk 2077

the most frustrating thing to me was that with all the lore around cyberpunk 2077, barely any of it mattered as most of it was just used as window dressing, after everything Night City throws at u, after seeing the living conditions of the lower class in Night City, after literally being lectured on how predatory arasaka is by Johnny Silverhand himself and seeing it time and time and time again in side missions where the one pulling the strings is either Arasaka, Militech or one of the gangs being paid off by another major corp, at the end of all that, V's dream is still to be the fucking ash ketchoom of Night City and im like, "V, you have 6 MONTHS LEFT. YOU. CANNOT. WIN. THERE IS NO WINNING AND THERE IS NO POINT TO WINNING. (i mean seriously tho? the prize for being number 1 is u get a drink named after u at a bar and you have half an idea how many people want to stab u in the back…or the front, yay what a fun life amiright? all your new friends only like u for ur capabilities and material possessions and not your personality) YOU WOULD BE UTILIZING YOUR TIME BETTER IF YOU ORGANIZED THE PEOPLE TO RISE UP IN SOLIDARITY! WAKE THE FUCK UP SAMUARI, YOU GOT A CITY TO UNITE!!"
