Spider Murphy is one of the most significant characters in Cyberpunk 2020 lore, but she only makes a brief appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 during a Johnny Silverhand memory sequence. Not much is mentioned about Spider’s life before and after the attack on Arasaka Tower but we can build a pretty complete picture of the famous netrunner by digging into the tabletop books. And that’s what we’re going to do today.

So what you're saying, is that Spider Murphy retired, found religion, and opened a New Age shop called 'Misty's Esoterica.' You know, I always figured that Misty could afford to go days without customers because Vik was independently wealthy, and simply paid for her and her shop to act as a front for his back alley ripper clinic. Now it's clear I was wrong, and I had it backwards.
It also conveniently explains why Misty knew what drug would unleash Johnny in V's mind. Relic 2.0 is derived from Soulkiller, and Spider Murphy is already intimately familiar with that. It could also explain why V see tarot cards all over the place, that conveniently look exactly like Misty's deck, despite V not really knowing what tarot cards were beforehand. Misty probably slipped some code into V's OS while they were laid up after the heist, in order to try and help them out.

I’m probably reading too much into it, but what if Spider Murphy is Judy’s mother or grandmother? Judy has a spider web tattoo, and she even sounds like Spider, and has a knack for netrunning.

Theory here: the body stayed "preserved" because it was in freezer that was actually recently dumped. In one of the gigs (Many Ways to Skin a Cat, at Rever Courier Service, if I recall correctly) there is a message on one of the computers about a freezer being held since the 2020s that is due to be thrown out since the account is no longer being payed up.

When i first got into the game i honestly thought there was a connection between Spider murphy and maelstrom, because maelstrom's symbol is a spider with a tech like head, and spider murphy seemed to fit the whole "tech above all" idea that could have been manipulated into the maelstrom current way of doing things.
I wonder if the name came from Jailhouse Rock?

You totally missed that there's a possible reference to her in the Cyberpunk RED book. In the section on NPC's of Night City is this listing.
A Recluse, of course, is a type of spider.
Recluse (Netrunner): Very little is known about the hermitic Netrunner living in the heart of the Combat Zone's Old Japantown district. I have i crazy quess that wakako is same women who was working with arasaka in 2023 who used soulkiller on johnny. She told her husband died in tower and wakako had more than 5 husbands i think and they sound alike
