Alt Cunningham was once one of the world’s most talented netrunners. She was sought by corps world wide. She designed Soulkiller herself. She had the Net at her fingertips. But to Johnny Silverhand, she was simply the love of his life. For better or for worse, apparently. And their romance ends in tragedy when they cross paths with the rising Arasaka Corporation in the year 2013. In 2077, with the engram of Johnny Silverhand trapped inside V’s head, the story is told again. As remembered by the digital ghost of Silverhand after 50+ years of digital data corruption.
If anyone is wondering why I just ignored certain characters/dialogues, it’s because I thought it would be fun to try and recreate the original Never Fade Away scenario from the TTRPG books as closely as possible. Never Fade Away was one of the best pieces ever written for the Cyberpunk series. I was very disappointed that we didn’t get to follow the original in 2077, but I loved the explanation as to why that is (for those who don’t know, Alt confirms that the version we see in the game is the way Johnny’s engram remembers things happening, not the way they actually happened). Still, I always loved this mission because it takes us back to 2013 and lets us see old characters from the original Cyberpunk books. Nomad Santiago, Thompson, and a young Rogue all show up in exactly the right places.
