  1. Alt and Rouge both confirmed this. Another hint is his gun. The reason it’s not as powerful when V gets it because it never was that strong, Johnny wasn’t a solo he made himself seem much more capable than he actually was. I think by chippin in V figures all this out, but it’s never directly told to the player

  2. There is also the fact that Shaitan and Smasher had an absolutely apocalyptic showdown after Johnny bought it that wrecked four full floors of the tower and left Shaitan reduced to his Biopod. Whereas in Johnny's recollection Shaitan doesn't do a thing.

Honestly not a bad performance from Shaitan, he built himself as the ultimate covert ops Borg and he wasn't able to use any of his stealth or covert advantages. He was just straight brawling with Smasher.

Then Morgan Blackhand stepped up to the plate, the absolute gigachad that he is, and the rest is history.

  3. It does lend credence to the idea that whatever is beyond the black wall isn't Alt Cunningham, at least not entirely. Alt Cunningham wouldn't be interested in a modified version of Johnny Silverhand. An artificial intelligence using Alt's face wouldn't care. It's also possible that the entity wanted V. V has had intimate contact with advanced knowledge and the prototype schematics for the biochip. The uses an artificial intelligence could have for a system that digitized human psyche and makes the data transferable boggle the mind.

  4. I forgot to mention in my original post, Cyberpunk RED drops a lot of hints that Alt is likely alive (in a heavily modified new body) as the character "Angel," the same way that Spider Murphy underwent some serious reconstruction and (basically confirmed) became Recluse.

It was also confirmed that there were pieces of Alt's consciousness that were left behind in cyberspace during the events of 2020, while this doesn't directly confirm anything there's a very distinct possibility that these fragments became the gestalt blackwall entity we meet in 2077, and the physical Alt is still out there. Even more exciting, there are a lot of hints that the Johnny engram is NOT the only Johnny out there. Among others, the fact that Angel, who has an uncanny bordering on impossible without knowing the guy level of knowledge on Silverhand, has a traveling companion who is an accomplished guitarist. Again, not confirmed, but the idea of Engram Johnny confronting (a? the? another?) living (kinda) Johnny is a fun speculation.

Between that and the fact that after his reconstruction there are large chunks of time where Adam Smasher was totally off the radar, pursuing "something" that was personally incredibly important to him…well, there's definitely a lot of very interesting things that you can draw similarly interesting conclusions from.

None of this is flat out CONFIRMED but that's why I enjoy RED, they give you tantalizing hints, fragments of canonical information, and some very interesting interactions and allow you to draw your own conclusions. The themes of conspiracy and misdirection and the nature of consciousness are very, very heavy in the Cyberpunk setting, after all.

In the end, we can't know until Pondsmith himself weighs in, but it's certainly given me a lot of ideas for some new RED campaigns and story hooks for my players. I'm very excited for Phantom Liberty. I think the likelihood of encountering Angel or Recluse is pretty good, maybe even Morgan Blackhand himself. Can't wait.
