Cyberpunk 2077 Fashion: Overview & Style/Aesthetic Analysis

I’ve said the words “cyberpunk”, “dystopian”, “society”, and “sprawling” more than I ever need to say again in my life. 🤭

But seriously, I enjoyed exploring 2077 a bit more than I thought I would – which is typically the case with most media I cover. It’s a shame I don’t like FPS RGPs a bit more – I’m sure I would enjoy getting immersed within the Nighty City lifestyle otherwise.

Great fashion, style, and aesthetics; it was interesting researching what designer brands have parallels to Kitsch, Entropism, Neomilitarism , and Neokitsch. I’m surprised there aren’t actual designer brand sponsored cosmetics in such a highly detailed and customizable game.

  1. hope u eventually cove edgerunners by itself cuz i think David's outfit really reflects him as a character
Like even tho he changes so much hes not bulletproof yet he rocks a loud yellow jacket with no armor, giving into that meta idea of being a night city legend, in its own way trying to be the main character, iconic an we all know were that lead him an all other legends😅

  2. It's hard for me to put into words how fascinating the people in the cyberpunk universe's fashion is very in line with their environment, like you know who you're dealing with immediately based on where they are and what they're wearing. If they're wearing red, gold and have the Santa Maria on their back people gonna know they rock with the Valentinos. If you're in a minimalist suit with some serious hardware on your face and hands you're probably a high up corpo. Your skin is pure chrome and you got the most dazzling dress with fur and feathers you're probably part of the rich, famous and elite, no question.

Unlike in our world if you see a a person in an untucked button shirt and jeans he might be a CEO for a start up company in New York or a grocery employee. You see a dude painted silver he probably is an artist…or just into it.

  3. One of my favorite games ever, just such a great vibe and it was such an immersive experience. The whole world just felt so real and believable and it was so full of interesting characters. I bet they found a list of what I'm attracted to and then checked all the boxes to create Judy 😂 Also Johnny Silverhand might be one of my favorite fictional characters of all time!
Two characters that I absolutely loved that haven't been covered here are Rogue Amendiares, especially her style in the flashbacks was just so cool and Sandayu Oda who just looks like a futuristic asian military version of Marilyn Manson but I do kinda understand why he wasn't in this video 😀

  4. God, I love the design of Reed's (Idris Elba's) outfit. From the outside, the coat is very classic cyberpunk badass, but there are so many details – the straps around the torso, the straps around the arms, and the way all of the lines of the jacket's lapel point inwards towards the ring of his necklace – that evoke the image of a bondage harness, representing the way his unearned loyalty makes him a slave of the NUSA.

The coloration and shape of the lapel also evokes the image of flayed skin, appropriate for a man who has had his heart ripped out of his chest by the person he cares for most in the world – a wound which still has not healed all these years later.

  6. Don't worry about Cyberpunk being a shootter.
You can just hack everyone and make them die with technology from a distance just by looking at them, like a real mage xD
Not joking. That was my build)

  7. If you are looking for a "mage" archetype check out a Netrunner build if you pick up the game
Setting people's implants on fire, making them leak toxic chems into their blood, turning their environment around them, making them flatline themselves.

Also great video choom. My current favorite franchise needs more love I think.

  8. I started a new cyberpunk game a few weeks ago and I'll definitely use this video as a reference for new outfits. I never really cared that much about fashion in this game since I'm always in person mode but i wanted to play around with outfits this time.

  9. Very well done video! There is just so many great designs in the world, I especially like the different gang “uniforms” and the surprising variation you can find between members. An example would be something like the variety of The Mox gang members, Rita Wheeler and Susie Q come to mind immediately as having two distinct vibes as they both have different positions in the gang.

  10. You talk about preferring to play as a mage in games instead but my friend, that is essentially what being a netrunner is. You can hack people from afar. You don’t have to pick up a gun or knife at all. You don’t even have to be on the same block as your opponent if there’s cameras and there’s ALWAYS cameras

  11. Quick aside for playing the game: hackers are basically mages! They're called netrunners, and they can essentially cast spells on people and the environment by messing with their cybernetics.
You could potentially play almost the entire game without firing a gun or swinging a sword.

  12. there are a couple things i really wish cyberpunk had more of when it comes to clothing. 1 being cloth physics for V(but that’s more of a game engine thing), and the other being clothes having actual brands. we see stores like jinguji and avante, but we can’t get any brand-specific clothing. it’s always been kinda weird to me when even the guns have unique branding

  13. Shadowrun is also a great example of cyberpunk and especially cyberpunk fashion.

Its a cyberpunk setting where magic and dragons have returned. So you have elf street samurai and dragon CEOs. It fun and rather iconic franchise. Becore Cyberpunk 2077 came out it was the more popular of the two franchises.

The world building is insanely detailed and with the plot actually moving forward with a decade with each edition fashion is actually kinda important. Its acknowledged that a look that was iconic in 2050 looks like a Halloween costume in 2070. That said there is a literal written as in-universe fashion catalogue in one of the older editions. A whole book that is all avout fashion, clothing and the looks of the Sixth World. Its also very diverse looks wise.

If anyone is interested the PDFs of the older editions of Shadowrun are floating around. TheTrove, a massive collection of RPG PDFs died, but its ghost this haunts torrents and the MEGA link can be found on reddit.

Soooo…..yo-ho-ho, its a pirate life for me.

(But only for older PDFs, please support the current edition, its the only way we will ever get more)

  14. It wasn't a 4th World War, it was the 4th CORPORATE war. In my opinion that is so much more dystopian. These Corporations are so powerful that they can wage entire wars between each other that don't have to obey they Geneva Convention whatsoever. A lot of the 2077 world really sucks because of the aftermath of having 4 unregulated corporate wars. You can blame them for the existence of militarized A.I and then those A.I's going rogue because of a certain madman.

  15. My absolute favourite outfit of the whole game is Aurore Cassels netrunner outfit, the high waisted clean cut pants and the cropped blazer with mesh shirt with a harness underneath, its all so street casual yet very classy I love it and think you would too

  16. If you ever do pick up the game, the fashion/photography mod scene is huuuuuuge. From your vibe I can bet you'd love it. <3 I think I split my game time between making ensembles and setting up photo shoots pretty evenly between actual combat and quests. I'm def an Urban Flash enjoyer, but sometimes I mix in some Militech/Arasaka kit like mismatched arms, kneepads and shin guards and a one-off pauldron.

  17. You're so right about Hanako. There is a shard that can be found in the game that mimics a fashion magazine comment on her outfit. It reads:

"Hanako Arasaka's visit to Night City is a unique chance to take a closer look at a true icon of class and style. The enigmatic daughter of a recently deceased megacorp CEO has shown us once again why she's a real queen of killer taste.

First thing to note is that Hanako wore only Japanese designers, showing off a flair of the patriotism and devotion her she was raised with. Second, only a sharp eye might catch the small, golden brooch crafted in the shape of the Arasaka Corp. logo. Playing it safe but keeping it classy, Hanako also rocked a dove white, neomil pencil dress, simultaneosly showcasing a regal modesty but without putting off stiff prudishness.

Hanako is corporate royalty and she KNOWS it. She's not trying to squeeze in any of that neo-k flash, because her self-confidence is chrome-plated. That said, there are a few accents of gold in her dress, shoes and hair accessories that tastefully elevate the outfit and harmonize beautifully with her nails and Realskinn seams. Then, with her coat sporting a fierce red, she adds an almost predatory pop to the ensemble.

Color choice by coincidence? No way. Or a nod to the Japanese national colors? Probably way. As we've seen time and again before, Hanako doesn't shy away from incorporating both traditional and modern elements from her home country's heritage."

  18. Love learning about real world parallels to look up and salivate over.

Of the looks you featured I really feel like Kerry is what I aspire to but less the leather and tank and more layering sleek gold on the neck once you go grey.

Some of my favourite looks actually belong to random nameless NPCs in the overworld, there's one in particular – a masculine presenting Tyger Claw gang member appearance that gets reused a lot in game – with a green sort of hawk hair worn down and a visor that is like a cross between Gogol from Cyber City OEDO 808 and Master Yi from League, they have kind of patterned short sleeve shirt tucked into pants, peekaboo of a white singlet underneath – very neat summer holiday vibe but then contrasted with their tattoos, cyberware and the very Kitsch adjacent punk gloves- love it.

  19. Steam says I have over 650 hours invested into Cyberpunk 2077 and probably 100 of those hours have been devoted to me messing with my wardrobe. Gotta loot all the items; maybe there's new clothes I haven't seen before. Gotta drive to every clothing shop, maybe I missed something that I hadn't looted before. Do these pants look good with this jacket and what shoes should I pair with them and and and…..

  20. Such a shame that it's in first person perspective. Third person was one of the first features that was cut for time – it takes so much more work to make smooth, natural animations for the player character in a game, especially in a game with so many clothing and hair options. I had hoped that third person would ba added to the game in an update, but no such luck

  21. I usually don't look style videos, came here because of the cyberpunk topic and I have to say I am positive surprised. Your analysis and analogy to real world brands is very on point and you did a great job with your presentation of the topic. Thanks for that work and damn your personal style has an appeal like an campfire, first you think we'll it's a fire but as you sit down and get into the feeling of sitting to a source of heat, like the heat itself, it just more your confidence in your style and to presenting it is warming in its own way also it really shows that you are into this with passion and that elevates so much. Thanks for your work and I may start watching more style analysis of yours. It's intriguing. Have a great day and here tike a like and a subscription.

  22. The only thing that kind of upsets me, is that they didn't give the clothes other utilitarian purposes other than armor when they moved armor to the cyber parts and make so you sometimes need to switch up your clothes game. If I made a future game, part of your "rep" would be whether people seeing you wear the same thing all of the time, as well as reacting to what you are wearing, and in some cases, how you are using it.

  23. The original Cyberpunk 2013 and 2020 books drew heavily on Patrick Nagel and Hajime Sorayama, visually. Well, obviously they couldn't afford the real thing but they certainly hired artists to copy Nagel and Sorayama.
2077 looks more like… A bunch of kids raided a dumpster outside a costume shop and sewed on glowy strips.
