Cyberpunk 2077 News Updates – So it appears that Cyberpunk 2077’s E3 2018 demonstration was very much faked. In addition, the game was more realistically supposed to come out in 2022. Plus, more on the actual development nightmare.

  1. So the Management was a bunch of idiots; this is why bean counters should never be put in charge of products they know nothing about. Ugh. So sorry for the talented devs stuck under morons.

  2. It sounds like CD red hired the wrong project leader in 2016 as he could not understand the game so he tryed to remake it in another style that he did as the motor goes you need the right person at the right time and to work in the right way for the best outcome or else all the good work gets corrupted if a person gets appointed who is only intersted in their own vanity

  3. "E3 2018 Gameplay Was FAKED" Umm … yeah. Obvi. We all knew it. Which is fine IF IF IF the final product delivers what the demos show. Which CP2077 didn't. Honestly, this is something of an industry standard, all software, not just games. Yes, it wastes lots of dev manhours to do, so sure devs pretty much always gripe. (Being a software engineer, been there, done that.) BUT it keeps the hype and therefore the interest, funding, and thusly the project going. Which is why software companies aren't run solely (if ever) by devs. Proper management needs to balance all needs. Unfortunately CDPR put a desire (need?) for money ahead of consumers in the end, cutting content, scrapping goals, and releasing with waaaaaaay too many bugs. In quite possibly an industry record-breaking mess. After they said that they wouldn't do that very faux pas.

  4. As for changing goals, scope creep, putting the cart before the horse, reinventing the wheel, etc. Unfortunately, again, pretty much an industry standard, in all software, not just games. It's not a matter of IF these things are done. They pretty much always are. It's a matter of HOW WELL it's handled internally, hopefully preventing the outside world from realizing just what a mess designing to delivering to supporting a new software product is. Had CDPR just taken another 6 months, or a year, or even stagger-released (PC first, next-gen consoles second, last-gen consoles last) CP2077 then we'd have hardly seen this glimpse into the seedy underbelly of chaos that is software engineering, especially when under pressure to deliver. It was their choice to release when they did that made this so tragic instead of just another Monday.

  5. And as for the poor devs, we should feel bad for them. But honestly, again, an industry standard. (At least in the US.) Ridiculous hours? Perfectly normal. Sure, you don't "have" to work overtime … but you're behind your milestone and if you don't want a negative performance review… Been there, done that. I even had a "discussion" with HR at one company about it, and as they pointed out, as a salaried employee there was no such thing as overtime because there were no official hours in the employment contract. OT stood for own time, not over time. Par for the course as I later learned in other jobs.
One thing (besides releasing early) where management often screws up is in thinking that more devs equals faster development. Usually it's the opposite, especially when new people are brought in mid-development, because then the long-standing developers have to spend a lot of time TRAINING the new people on the existing software. And before you know it, you've come out at a net loss in hours spent actually developing by bringing in more people. (Even worse when you outsource because now you have to add in extra management, testing, and control hours to the core devs.) This is something where companies often screw things up once they start to panic about the release date. LOL
And the language barrier? Been there, done that too. It's a part of international business these days. Products like Rosetta Stone exist for a reason. LOL If you're not progressive (or even excited) about learning new things then you probably shouldn't be a software engineer. Or any engineer, really. Doing the same old with limited or outdated information and skills, sitting comfortably on your existing knowledge unwilling to broaden your horizons, that's not what cutting-edge technology is about.
So we should feel bad for the devs. But at the same time, nothing new here. If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. Either you're excited by new opportunities to learn and dedicated enough to put personal time into it, and you'll go far … or you're a lazy has-been and you'll burn out or wash out soon enough. There's a solid reason that a LOT of software engineers transition to completely different careers after a while of living the life. It's a make or break career and especially as you get older you're going to find your priorities in life may no longer be aligned to what it takes to be a great software engineer. That's just how it is. Sad, but true. Not everyone is cut out for it. It takes more than just being smart. You either love the challenge, or you move on to something saner.

  6. Im not sure how much of that demo was faked. you literally go through the exact same mission and content in game. they just dont have the 3rd person view or v sleeping with some random dude.

  7. What they need to do too is completely abandon the multiplayer aspect of the game. The base game itself is in such bad shape across the board that single player experience needs to match or go above what was promised. That’ll take a at least a year for that to even happen. While yea I cannot speak for everyone here except myself, online multiplayer isn’t necessary. And it only serves to take away resources needed to deal with the base game.

  9. Clearly they should have realized that current hardware could not cope with the scope of the game. Even the ps5 struggled to maintain let alone the ps4. Games should not been a launch game. It should have came out 2022 for next gen and pc exclusively.

  10. i know working with other can be let's just say an adventure sometimes and these guys spend a few years together and more. but to me it feels like some were just waiting for the sh** to hit the fan. i would be surprise if any group said they didn't have there ups and downs but us as gamers don't see those problems when a game comes out and it's a big hit. but they do have there issues to. i just want to know what is mud slinging and what is the truth not sure what to think anymore

  11. Demo is not what is used to be, now demo can be about showcasing in-game engine or an inspiration. Its not alpha version anymore, been like that since dlc was in trend. I believed someone in mgmt or investors really sell the idea of "can expand with dlc" or "improve game with patches" so convincing that april launch was announced, after that they know they f*cked up and delayed the launch, fans totally went berserk and want no delay, so in the end everyone got what they wanted which didnt meet their expectations. In the end the winners are the haters bcos they got to milk every ounce of this fiasco. Tl;dr, cdpr cave in to investors and angry fans to release an unpolished game, it came back and bite them in the ass

  12. They'll make it right, they got some good funding i bet with the "early" release in one year it'll be great to play, anyone mad about that is honestly is another entitled gamer, dont buy the game if you're not happy with it, they offered refunds digitally and physically.

  13. I always laugh when these guys complain about over time. Try working a real industrial job that you do 7/12’s and do manual work. Bunch of cry babies. Currently on 12 hour shifts to get a customers product out on time.

  14. It is a big difference! That you didn't know something that would happen, and didn't listen to the words of the devs…. or you fucking knew and understood everything, you just didn't care… because of more then 8 million pre orders! That's it…. but they want to make you believe that the first thing happened! Pleeeease… yeah right! 😀
