For a quick summary of our thoughts, we found the game to be good in the sense that there’s a solid main story, a beautiful world-aesthetic/art design, and cool characters with some neat side quests. However, because we all played through picking different choices, we quickly realized that the game underdelivers when it comes to player choice & consequence, as well as the idea of ‘living’ in the game. Cyberpunk 2077 does not give the player that much agency, and you definitely can’t ‘be anyone’ or ‘do anything’ in the world. You are V, and you play V’s story. That said, it’s worth stating that we had a lot of fun playing this story and enjoying the different playstyles on offer.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action RPG developed and published by CD Projekt. Mike Pondsmith, the creator of Cyberpunk, was a consultant during game production, and actor Keanu Reeves has a starring role. The player assumes the first-person perspective of V, a mercenary who has three different life backgrounds for the player to choose from. The game takes place in Night City, an open world area set in the Cyberpunk universe. As the player completes quests and levels up, they can develop their abilities in hacking, technical skills, and various melee and ranged combat styles.

: it's hard to get on someone's bad side
Claire: Am I a joke to you?

: Your life path doesn't effect your interactions really
Me as a Corpo: sad face from Johnny's constant disparaging remarks due to my background.

The Dex situation is understandable. I saw it coming but you can't really do anything as it's scripted event to move along the linear story. It's disappointing that you can't even exact "revenge": If they did add some sort of branch here the outcome would have to be essentially identical to move the story along.

: There is no decision that you made 10 hours ago that will effect the ending.
Me: Isn't this done so you don't have to start new games to get all the endings?

I get that people came in expecting a mish mash of Skyrim, The Witcher and GTA. It was my expectation to some degree as well. That we received a lot of aspects of Mass Effect (in a bad way) isn't surprising though.
It received some of the same criticism for not being RPG enough. The implementation of ME's origin has a lot in common with the life path in Cyberpunk as well. It's disappointing but when you have a game that has fully voiced dialogue with in game engine cutscenes you're going to get a really linear story for the most part. Gone are the days of Neverwinter Nights where you have completely different dialogue and options due to your intelligence score for instance. I just don't expect this anymore.

There's a lot of valid criticism for this game. The majority of what I see put's too much emphasis on aspects I'm just not personally invested in though. I'm more concerned with the bugs and core gameplay (i.e. combat, driving). Some things like vehicle customization were even debunked by CDPR before the game launched. It's disingenuous to hold it up as an unfulfilled promise. We were told up front that it wasn't going to be in the final product. I believe something similar happened with wall running and riding trains.

  2. wen u realize ppl are complaining about a game they wanted released waaaay to early. smh. elder scrolls has some of the worst rpg experience u literally have to mod it to death or play "lets imagine" in your head. but no one bitches about elder scrolls. tbh theres just no such thing as an rpg these days outside the tabletop which i play. ppl are expecting things that werent promised to them in the first place. ppl overhyped themselves. they wanted a whole nother year to work. saw u guys complaining bout style. theres literally no scrolls game where u get to pick ur style. u guys shoulda let them finish the game before u started acting like gen z microwave babies. like dont make build videos if ur gonna grift this hard

  3. I'm glad you guys are being honest. I haven't played it but this video shows that even the most ambitious game can turn into a linear game.

Note: I do plan on giving the game a go but at this point in time the game isn't worth the price given the promises laid out in promotional material and even the weeks leading up to the release with the obviously paid reviews.

  4. It just goes to show you, we don't want the free DLC to be any missions, any NPC's, any storyline stuff…just a bunch of stuff to actually DO in the city, rather than just run around it and get jobs.

  5. I didn't play the game, but from what I've hearing so far, it seems like the game doesn't want to be something new. Rather be something, that's already been done and cheaply copies what other games perfected.
Even such small things like water physics and stuff. I can understand the frustration, of having a beautiful package but no really content or the lack of detail. And the point with Keanu reeves… If he has a big part in the game and he just joined the game on 2018, what have they done the six years before?

  6. DUDE! I was worried about this before the game even released, I thought I was just being over critical though, so I kind of let it slide. I was telling all my friends before release that I was really worried that they wouldn't show us at least 30mins of uncut gameplay. Nobody had any first hand evidence of what they were paying for with their $60. I'm working through the return process rn. I love CDPR, huge fanboy, but sadly, let's be honest, we were lied to.

“ is lacking in meaningful choice and the ability to live in the world, there is a disconnect between what was promised/conveyed .. and what is here”
Paraphrased from your intro but I agree completely. I love the game and I think the immersion is there for me but I feel like I’m on the outside looking in. I see the immersion is there, and it looks great and I can assume by seeing it what it’s like and how it feels, but I can’t truly experience it because as I said I’m on the outside looking in. I hope that can turn around, I really do. I want to live in night city. Granted it’s a game So yeah, but that immersion of living at night city that was foretold and hinted at in observe and promised and was the goal… I hope that comes to fruition

  8. Biggest missed opportunity was factions. You should be able to do work for Tyger claws, voodoo boys etc. Then you get a quest line from them, much like the Thief Guild or Brotherhood in Skyrim. After you complete those quests you are then KOS to the other factions.

  9. I feel like people hype games and movies up too much and set themselves up for disappointment.
It’s a game it’s meant to entertain you for awhile people dig too deep into things now..

If I get 50 hours of enjoyment out of a 50 dollar purchase that’s amazing value..

  10. This is exactly the type of review I've been looking for. Everyone is talking about the game's bugs, but I was really curious if the story was any good. I was actually thinking of getting this after all the bugs were fixed (so maybe a year or two from now) but after watching gameplay, I don't know if I will. I hate playing in first person and I love character customization/seeing my character interact in a world and have actual impact on it, so this might be a pass for me.

  11. the management/marketing team are the entire reason this game did bad. they forced the developers release it early in a unfinished state, forcing them to cut out things that they didnt finish to the point of it being able to be used regularly like the different things you can do with the special weapons. if they just waited 6 months atleast the game would have came out finished.

  12. Melee optimized well?
My Katana/Mantis build based on Sandevistan would like to have a word with the guy that coded in the fact that the leap into skewing animation of the mantis blades and the decapitation animation of the katana automatically interrupt the Sandevistan slow time regardless of remaining duration… 10/10 synergy -__- ".
    * And also the fact that during Sandevistan you can't execute the light attack combo as the character jams itself spamming the first slash of both katana and mantis blades, rendering all attack speed bonuses useless, and nullifying any perk/gear relying on say the final combo slash.

  13. I would've been fine with the bugs and glitches if the game actually lived up to what was expected. The bugs can be patched later on, but I bought an immersive RPG where your choices determine the game, not a semi open world first person shooter with a linear storyline.

  14. Well done! I’ll be honest I enjoyed the game, but there is a lack luster there when it comes to the relationships aspect, I wish more could be done, it very well maybe done in the future…but for now I’ll have to be very careful when choosing to trust CDPR.

  15. It would render the entire story null and void in many ways but it should have been a choice what parts of V's body are organic or augmented. Having lungs that some hacker can just shut off is genuinely stupid.

  16. Plenty of valid points, but I wonder if you would consider the Elder Scrolls games and Bethesda as good as you obviously do if you held them to the same standards as you do Cyberpunk 2077 and CDPR, because honestly just about every every bullet you fire off at CP 2077 and the marketing by CDPR can easily apply to the ES games and Bethesda…

  17. They forgot to add the open world activites. It's pointless and not fun to play. ItS only a game to play missions which is boring.the world is not realised no gambling in a cyberpunk world wow

  18. Is it possible that they will make a rework of this story that leads to more real choice or do I just have too much hopium. The story is good but this game does not deserve to be called an RPG.

  19. Nice vid! It feels like this video could've been 10-15 mins tbh. 😀

Anyway. The difference between the trailers and the panel discussion and the actual game is so, SO painful. The directors just kept clinging to the initial vision of the player's choice, which was only (barely) realized in the first bit of the game. They seemed so ignorant to what the game actually was becoming, or just chose to keep selling this idea.

I wonder that if the game was marketed differently (more narrow and story-driven) with the promise of expanding the world later on (possibly through releasing chapters) would've avoided the major backlash, and possibly reduce the amount of complexity/bugs.
