Has there been any game in the last few years more hyped than Cyberpunk 2077? No matter what corner of the internet you turned to, it seemed CD Projekt Red’s project to follow The Witcher 3 was always buzzing. Controversial development procedures and a post-launch PR disaster has muddied the waters of what otherwise appears to be a great game on PC. Today, I’d like to discuss how we reached this point, and what we could possibly learn from the experience. I hope you enjoy, and thank you for watching!

While I haven't agreed with every opinion you've had, I've always felt like you explained your side enough that I understood why you felt that way. Having a differing opinion on a topic shouldn't warrant harassment or genuine threats to someone's health. If anything it should lead to an interesting conversation.
I've always wish that people are not one sided but are willing to listen criticisms or atleast understand that other prespective and i honestly think cyberpunk 2077 is a good game that doesn't excuse the terrible management, glitches and game breaking bugs and manipulating review scores especially when they had 8 years of developement and a ton of delays.
I can relate. I always went the way of: "never buy crap wrapped in shiny". When Yong Yea was hyping the game, I skipped those videos, or after watching them wrote: "do not pre-order". I was downvoted. I am listening to a video that says "I want you to listen" and I cannot relate enough.
Pretty good video. I can see your channel being focused on such analysis/reviews. Good job, mate
Ummm from what I hear the game spot reviewer didn't even play the game
It is very simple for me especially with open world games: don't buy them until about half a year passed since release.
Witcher 3 was a mess on release.
And preventing crunch is only possible by not preordering and/or boycotting a game entirely. These Game Studio suits only understand the language of money. So, speak that language and stop giving it to them.
derail the hype train bullshit
I always enjoy your videos. You are a wonderful speaker and you make points very concisely and clearly and even if I don't agree I enjoy just hearing your point of view.
I bought The witcher 3 on release and was greeted by a hot mess. I powered though for about 8h, went to bed and returned the game in The morning. Since then, Ive played it, patched and Nice, but that experience made me think of cdpr like a polish version of bethesda. Never again will i buy one of their games sooner than a year past release 😅
I havent watched the whole video, if you address this I may edit or delete this BUT: we did NOT get our hype up too much. A LOT of people have been saying this; but the thing is, they produced more content and context than ANY other company. with FO76 we had a trailer, some limited gameplay and Todd Howard telling us it was 16x the detail. the marketing for that was limited to the point where people were not entirely sure what the game would be exactly, any hype therefor I'll place on gamers. With No Man Sky its 50/50. we saw a gameplay trailer and a snippet of gameplay played live by Sean himself with many many vague statements of promiced features. they built plenty of false hype and lied and we bought into it a great deal. Watchdogs sold us a graphically enhanced demo; Anthem made a total bullshit trailer with no gameplay for a game their own devs didnt know they were making
CDPR is 90% responsible here. they didnt give us bullshit marketing (they DID, but we only found out in hindsight), they played a 45 minute gameplay video and played that section live with devs, influencers, the media, and lucky passers by… NO COMPANY had released that level of raw gameplay since the days of demos; its unheard of in this day and age. not 45 minutes of BS, 45 minutes of raw gameplay. they then released a cinimatic trailer which was BS marketing, but then another 20+ minutes of raw gameplay around the Voodoo boys mission. then they did night city wire. CDPR gave us BY FAR more in-game actual gameplay (we thought) than any other company. we didnt think they were lying because A. they're CDPR, and B. they were showing actual gameplay
the caps are for emphasis, not anger, its just that, the vast majority didnt hype this game up in a vacuum, this was a level of lying we hadnt seen with ANY other company. we wouldnt expect this much BS from EA. this is unprecidented levels of lying. we only bought what they sold, very little more… they hype was justified at literally every turn by everyone UNTIL the game launched and we learned the truth…..
TL;DR – basically, its not our fault for hype, its the fact that it fell so far from what was SHOWN rather than what we assumed it was we were getting
I know there's a lot of bugs, and it's annoying. But what bums me the most, is the general game play. The ai is absolutely horrible (especially the police), the looting system is boring and way too in your face, the open world kinda feels empty because there's nothing to do besides quests, and finally the promised rpg elements are either miniscule or missing completely ( for example the three backgrounds, which do not influence your game whatsoever besides the first few hours).
Mr Hands Gives Good Jobs
Thanks for the honest content Demod! I really appreciate these reviews, and I know I’m not alone when I say people appreciate an honest perspective on gaming. Never let anyone tell you your opinion isn’t valued, because all of us here appreciate the time and effort you put into it!
I feel like this game is more of a missed opportunity than a bad game and that honestly hurts more than if the game was just irredeemably bad. The story is pretty good, the sidequests and gigs are really fun to do, the world is pretty fun to get lost in and the variety of builds you can make is quite amazing, but with such a lackluster delivery of this content you really can't help it but ask where the fuck did they go wrong. Besides the awful lot of bugs and glitches, the optimization, both on consoles and PC, is terrible to the point where not even the best hardware will be able to deliver the performance it should. The AI is busted to non-existent. It almost feels like every damn thing in the game, including the traffic, was scripted rather than reliant on an AI, as it can't even solve minor issues like driving around a car parked in the road, let alone following traffic rules like knowing which lane to pick at a junction. This makes the otherwise amazing world of the game feel really underwhelming. The lack of customization options is also disheartening. The character creator is somewhat basic, compared with what they promised, and the fact you can't change certain elements like hairstyles, nails and tats in a game where you can replace your bones with titanium or install blades in your forearms on a whim just feels plain wrong. The fact this already disheartening package is wrapped up in controversies about crunching and countless delays only makes it worse. If CDPR's idea was to dethrone EA or Bethesda as the least reputable game company, they are definitely on the way to doing it.
i love the content, i dont agree with every opinion you have, but im more than interested on other peoples opinion, personally i love the game, have 30 hours done and only few minor bugs that are hard to notice (note: playing a pc with 2060)
Of all the Youtubers to cover this, I'm glad I watched your video, DeMod. Ever since I've heard about Cyberpunk and how much they wanted to make an amazing game, I was…mildly curious. I never played Witcher 3 (aside from the two times my older brother handed me the controller and told me to win certain fights for him), but I thought that maybe CD Projekt Red would deliver on this promise.
Thank god I look at things half-full.
The reviews on release claim positive, but neglected to mention the many bugs and glitches that plague the console versions, especially the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Again, I'm very glad to have watched this video of you saying your piece and hearing you out, especially during these shitty times. Let's all hope 2021 proves to be the year of redemption for everyone that has lived through the filth that is 2020.
Long may the sun shine!
Good vid demod I would love to see you debate upper echelon games on the topic of crunch since you two seem to have wildly different opinions on the issue, would u be up for that?
I was enjoying the game until I realized random shipping boxes have a death barrier
before DLCs, Pre-purchaes and Early releases, there weren't games that launched broken, because then they'd make 0 money, and lose their investments. Now. most gaming companies make enough money from pre-purchases alone, they have literally 0 financial incentive to put out an actual game, as long as the marketing campaign was good.
Also nowadays, gaming companies are all ran by corpo suits who evidently think playing games is the worst waste of human life imaginable.
Hey man I really enjoy all the videos you do. Whether I agree or not, I think they are always well thought out and well put together. Your arguments and points are convincing and respectful. Great stuff man
This game was a sore disappointment and while I have my gripes with it, that doesn't mean we can discredit those who put in the hours to create the game for us players. And in DeModcracy's terms, don't be a troglodyte.
I agree its really bad for past gen console , but im on pc and its been good i have experienced 0 crash and no quest ending glitches yet.
Kinda went in expecting new vegas in 2077 was disappointed then i started looking at it as witcher in 2077 and have been enjoying it much more since
The hype was just way to unreal for this game… but hopefully in year it will be playable…
Spends twenty minutes bashing, insulting, dismantling, inspecting, and dissecting this game, all of which I felt might be warranted. Then you threw it all away when you said you NEVER played the game, nor do you intend to. How about form your own opinion instead of going with the flow? Don't get me wrong, the game has its issues, and stuff, but seems a bit misleading to give such an input on something you never experienced.
There is a lot of denial going on with this game in particular that I find baffling. I have argued with people about how this game, while visually stunning, lacks a lot of the most basic content that comes from a typical open-world and RPG game. But most of the time they shut down the argument by saying:-
– the game was not advertised as such (which is a lie, look at their Twitter marketing)
– that consumers shouldn't have bought it for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles (but then ignores the question of why did CDPR advertise the game for those consoles in the first place)
– those aspects such as character customization beyond the intial start, immersive and consistant physics, actual intelligent AI for the NPCs, mini games to break from the main story, etc. are not needed (despite other games of its genre managing to pull it off and the game itself feeling barren when you diverge off the main and sub stories)
– "it works for me" (my favourite btw)
Video game industry is abusive, so stop playing video games.
Meat industry is abusive so stop eating meat.
Don't comment often but just wanted to say I really appreciate the work you do and I've always enjoyed your measured, reasoned takes even when I disagree as with Ghost of Tsushima. Keep up the good work and don't listen to people who would resort to petty insults, someone who would do that probably never had a great argument behind them in the first place.
Its strange, like you want money, we want a good game. How do those two goals not go hand in hand?
ît s not a bad game lol, it like saying he is a child rapist , but not a bad man, braindead NPC s that what you fanboys are :/=

No corporation is your friend, especially the ones that claim they are
Thank God Elden Ring is coming out… I think 😳
Poor console gamers getting what us PC gamers have had to deal with for years, poorly done ports. A few patches should vastly improve the game, the fact people are up in arms about a game getting released to early when this shit has be happening for years is comical. Its the gaming industry folks.
Fantastic summary, subscribed immediately.
Open world fatigue is bullshit, people are just tired of open world games cutting features that the predecessors had.
IE Daggerfall to Morrowind to Oblivion to Skyrim.
Each game, the graphics got better, the fighting got better, the world got smaller, and the story grew less dynamic, with a fraction of the RPG elements that used to exist.
People are fatigued of the KISS formula being applied to games they love.
(Keep it simple stupid)

Crunching has been a part of gaming since games were first made.
Stopping a company from crunching before a release date results in bugs and a delays.
I remember when I did a trade school class for game design they took us to a few different developers to tour the buildings and majority of them had beds that would fold out from the desk for the crunch time.
We were all told during the classes that 14 hour days were common.
This is something everybody who has dreams of making video games knows and accepts.

Meh, I dont think revenge for tarnishing the game in any way is why the fans did it.
They're just edgelords.
Hmmm deleting comments I see
The hype was…literally not possible to match with a game that is as good as the hype suggested it to be. Hell, I saw posts of people quitting there jobs and breaking up with there partners for this game. People went INSANE about it, like it was some divine gift from the heavens. Cyberpunk is pretty good (on PC at least) and I have a lot of fun with it, but is has some obvious flaws that keep it from being an incredible game, like the fact that the main story, as the part of the game that really shows all its strengths, is surprisingly short.
