Good morning Gopher 😊
I think I speak for most when I say this is the best side quest in the game narrative-wise, it's one of those quests that could easily be the main quest of another game, or, as I hope will be the case soon, the central plot of a DLC.
I hope this mission gets explored more with a DLC. (or an ai war theme DLC)
The Manchurian Candidate vibes here, love this side-quest!
For those that don't know, 'We Can Remember It For You, Wholesale.' was the original short story by P. K. Dick upon which 'Total Recall' was, loosely, based.
This quest is awesome to watch. The concept and writing was fantastic… until that diner scene. The first half was completely dissonant from everything else – V’s writing and voice actor seemed like they forgot everything that had led up to that moment.
So…. we know what the big question here is. Thing is, do we ask it…… but Gopher's playthrough is so far ahead, that it probably doesn't matter. He has even played through again, so it only matters if Gopher will playthrough a third time (I think), anyhow here goes. Does Gopher notice, Mr Blue Eyes?
It's amazing you've done 82 episodes of this game. I don't see any other gamer doing the same.
The Peralez quest is probably the most important sidequest in the game and there are some strong implications that this questline will be very important down the line in a potential expansion (assuming this'll still happen considering the state of the game):
(Slight Spoilers about characters Gopher has already met at this point in the playthrough ahead)
1. The unknown calller, or Mr. Blue Eyes, who you can see standing on a balcony, staring at you and Jefferson the end of the quest, wears the same ring that both Jeff as well as our old friend Garry the Prophet wear.
2. This whole scheme likely involves Night Corp. as can be seen on the data V steals for Sandra Dorsett, which describes mind control experiments conducted by them
3. We might also know who Mr. Blue Eyes actually is, thanks to a texture (?) file related to him, which is named after him, but this might just be a placeholder/leftover data and potentially huge spoilers if they actually continue this storyline, so I'll leave it at that.
TL;DR: The mind control storyline goes way deeper than it might appear at first and there is a distinct possibility that it'll be continued in an upcoming Expansion, just like how Gaunter O'Dim was teased in White Orchard in Witcher 3, a long time before Hearts of Stone was even announced.
Also, fun fact: You can jump on the black van before it leaves the parking lot and it'll drive you straight to its destination, allowing you to skip the whole chase. Not really important or anything, but I find it pretty funny.
11:53 That's not normal for you?
At 13:03 there are too many of these "broken" , "crunch" etc easter eggs in the game that it has to be intentional. I mean we already know that the management at cdpr lied about the state of the game but looks like the devs slipped in some references.
I sometimes love these side quests more than the main game really, they need to add more of them.
The writing is truly phenomenal
This and River's "quest" are the best stories in the game. Much more interesting than the main story.
This a great play through, thanks Gopher.
That chase was intense! and oof that was a solid hit with the truck too. Ahhh!!
I found the decision to tell or not tell Jefferson the truth to be one of the more difficult decisions in the game.
On the one hand, as Gopher said, I'd want to know if that was being done to me, so revealing the truth feels right, and was the choice I made in my playthrough.
On the other hand, telling him the truth also means telling him that he can't trust his memories, thoughts, or really anything around him. Not knowing if you're dealing with reality or illusion would be difficult to live with. So is it really a good idea to tell him that he can't trust his own thoughts BEFORE you've fixed it so it can't happen again?
It's almost too bad they didn't have Johnny narrate this quest like he did for Pepe's wife, that would have been epic!
And at the end of the video… look left… look left… look… doh!
Well, maybe next time. I think that would actually be the third time for Gopher though.
Good episode. This whole case is a really spooky mess. We can see why 6th Street hates Holt and wants Peralez to win the election – though I guess those gun nuts wouldn't get exactly the mayor they wanted. I can't see Jeff clapping his hands to violent street gang militia, despite how many loyal fans he has among 6th Street forces. It is a weird and scary situation, where idealist candidate is being supported by an armed criminal force. They could easily overshadow Jeff's status as a mayor and force him to take actions against some of those most loyal to him.
Maelstorm is tangled up to more things they can chew. I don't think either Brick or Royce good keep that many strings together, or even know how corporations and AIs are using cyber-necromancer-borgs to their own purposes. It is almost sad how clueless Maelstorm is about their own situation.
I love the shotgun. It looks and sounds so powerful.
34:14 – It's so rare to see you actually get mad about something not loot related.
Agreeing with Johnny…toooooold ya. I love how they bring you around on Johnny and your not sure if it's turnin out he's not such a douche oooooor is ot the relic changing you. I think I would prefer the answer to be Johnny's kinda ok but who knows. Cool.
Oh and BTW you do it so well. I swear this is the best TV series in the last ten years…..they wiped all my memories before that xD
This is a really damn well written quest. I like it, I like it a lot.
The dialogue system reminds me of Fallout 4, it seems like your picking an option to say one thing but then say something else you probably didn't mean to. Could do with a full dialogue mod like 'Classic Dialogue' [that mod is hidden currently as the author has found some issues. Highly recommended when it comes back though.] for Fallout 4.
