I don't feel too bad for CDPR. They actually worked hard to plummet their stock price. On the other hand, I'm happy for Techland and their soaring stock price. Personally, I'm not a fan of the Dying Light 2's overall direction. It barely has any of the first game's addictive gameplay, but it is what it is.
They lost 75% of value not 25%
CDPR made a giant mistake in cyberpunk, aside from the obvious problems like the bugs here, CDPR should have made the game 3rd person view. First person limited their player based. Don't believe me? Try making Witcher 4 first person too. See what happens.
And rightfully so, anything else they do comes with big fat ????? We have no idea if this new team is going to make gold or…
Lmaaaoo people actually think that this is somehow the end of CDPR?
Almost every single company had a massive dip at the beginning of 2020 because of covid.
Even if CP77 was a masterpiece, there would have been a dip just not as big as it was.
What happened? Cyberpunk 2077 happened and people saw how they mismanaged that situation.
I would say they only know how to make Witcher games but even that is in question since most of the people responsible for those games aren’t even at the company anymore.
I’m glad this has happened to them personally. Hopefully it wakes them up and forces them to understand that they gotta be better.
Sjw happened
The next game that is being overhyped is GTA 6 and not by the company(R*) either. The fans have not been paying attention to R* business practices for the last 3 years and they think GTA 6 is the second coming. So anywhere from 2024 – 2027 there will be a huge disappointment.
CDPR hopefully go bankrupt for lying about CP2077 features and performance , still has a max FOV of 50 on next gen hardware in a FIRST PERSON GAME 🧐😂😂😂😂. Trash 🗑. Never getting fixed since all the good OG staff left the studio and all that remains is an inexperienced skeleton crew. No mans sky had received more updates and fixes and in the same time frame, and they’re an indy studio with less staff and resources/money 😂.
As Obi-Wan said once: "You've done that to yourself."
They marketed CP2077 with lies to raise the hype, but in the end gave an unfinished and broken product, created one of the worst releases in gaming history, completely destroyed all the good will they earned for years. Some of the investers who sold their shares at the top got lots of cash, but the others screwed and sued.
I'm honestly content with this. Not to sound spiteful – but CDPR ( management) earned this stock drop
Consumers have taken a hard stance against even the most renowned developers when they release a broken game. None of them are allowed to do this and they know that now
it makes me happy to hear they lost 75% of their stock value.
the world is a weird place, when you lie and hype things up the wazoo.people no longer want to give you money.
3 bad games 1 good game, you lose value in people eyes.
CDPR's CEO's are a bunch of liar. Nothing more.
Zero accountability for the executives. Lower ranking employees who managed to cause that much harm to the company would be fired quicker than you can read this post.
It’s not about cyberpunk being a buggy mess it’s simply that Cdpr was not ready to make a demanding game like this they wanted Cyberpunk to be the next gta5 but they don’t know that it took rockstar so many years and games before creating gta 5 and RDR2, you can pour into the project as much money as you want but you can’t make up for the lack of experience.
To be honest the blame here partly lays with the investors market that has a tendency to grossly overvalue a product or stock, in it's desire for those sweet sweet profits. Again I said partly, the principal blame lays with the CDPR executives.
insider trading & short selling:( & thats y greedy suits shuld me band from the gaming industry
Not gonna lie, I’m on my second playthrough of cyberpunk with no intention of stopping, it’s hella fun but definitely has a lot of problems and leaves a lot to be desired. Good thing I waited until sale and when it was patched out.
You know this kinda news could end up with some job losses which is awful
If they wouldn't have overhyped and lied about what was in the game then maybe they wouldn't be in this mess
Didn’t age well
I hope they don't cancel Witcher 3 Remaster, I repurchased the GOTY edition on PS5 just for the update.
Finally great news 💯💪🏻👏🏻
I think what happened is pretty obvious. The first major franchise they attempt to make work other than the Witcher goes horribly wrong. It makes people think they were a one hit wonder.
Investors played themselves
I just haven't cared about CDPR ever since they launched Cyberpunk. I used to look forward to the game so much, but almost none of the ideas and features they promIsed (especially around RPG mechanics) made it into the game. It's a rushed half finished mess, and they lied and oversold it in their advertisements on top.
The only way to redeem this game for me is to take it back into development, overhaul major systems, rewrite the story to make it an actually branching RPG. But that's not gonna happen, and a lot of people are liking the game the way it is now, so yeah.
I just had fallen in love with that first trailer, with the interviews they did with Mike Pondsmith. I simply see none of the depth and the ideas that they showed and discussed there in the actual game. There is that theory that from the point they got Keanu Reeves on board, they rewrote everything or scrapped whatever ideas they had originally and made everything circle around him, for the star factor.
long story short is their stock price is back to normal.
Okay. Journalists are making this out to be a big deal when its not. NEXT
CDPR is still reaping what that sown with Cyberpunk 2077 launch. We will see how that will affect the next Witcher and eventual Cyberpunk sequel.
Red engine was one of their strongest assets in terms of something that would actually carry through and have been invested in.. and they ditched it at the drop of a hat when it became a minor liability towards the magic money number.. that last investor call when they talked about it that was the moment I realized this company was at the tail end of the events that were set in motion after the first Witcher release that almost ended the company, turns out it did.. just a slow death, with some bright UPS along the way, and sadly a false sense of hope for the future of interactive media, which they promptly threw away… Just listening to that guy's tone when responding to them, it was pretty clear that this company's future is dictated in that regard, regardless of all the effort they took to try to maintain a controlling share, and that's that's the stock market for you I guess..I'm sure they'll be continued to be a competent developer, any amalgam of people that they've had over the years and their standards for narrative design and dialogue are always going to be stand out regardless of the technology or the format, it's just not going to be anything special.. and if things go the way that they go usually for these large companies it's probably going to start imploding in that regard as well as they are constantly going to be trying to please everybody, and thus please the shareholders, and as we've seen time and time again this means that you end up pleasing nobody.. or turn into a grifter, like EA and Activision.. I don't think that'll happen anytime soon yet but, it's it's a mentality that has me as unexcited about that company as I could be really.. they're now just another European developer on unreal engine.
Just just going through this systems in red, there's so much groundwork laid down there's such a brilliant engine not only on the technical end but on the function end.. cyberpunk was absolutely set up to iterate upon and expand from the formats and all the things that are in there that half of which we've never seen, or have getting glimpse of by mods etc.. and the idea that they might have the actual time to put together those systems coherently, that would be something special.. but as the stock market is a inevitable graph of rich people's feelings.. and since these rich people's feelings are connected to the only thing that surpasses that level of fair weather temper tantrum.. modern gamers.
LastKnownMeal do you think, seeing as CDPR announced they will be working on more than 1 AAA games at the same time going forward, that the next cyberpunk will come out in a relative short time after the next Witcher? When I say relative short time I'm thinking one, 2 years after
If I didn’t know better, I’d assume the senior Dev team shorted CDPR stock lol.
fck em I'm never buying another game from them. Trash game
I told y’all so but you all had stories. CDPR was way overvalued before COVID and the Ukraine War. Other devs with way more employees and franchises were worth less.
that bad new i hope cd project read dont go bust, hope they survive make more Witcher games
😍👍
The launch was bad for sure. They managed to make the game run bad on last-gen consoles. Lots of bugs. People expected much more based on the 2018 trailer.
Even after that they sold 13.7 million in 2020, and more than 18 since that. I think Cyberpunk is "ok" on PC now, but not the game we wished for.
The stocks reflect that. They need a godly bug-free 4th Witcher game for casual gamers and haters to be even interested in the company and its games in the future.
Besides the shitty lies almost nothing in the videos they showed ended up in the final game.
uhm, most stocks are down A LOT.
