Cyberpunk 2077’s RT Overdrive mode brings pathtracing to a modern AAA game- which is incredibly demanding. Is the newly released RTX 4070 up to the task? Here we test at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolution using all levels of DLSS2 and Frame Generation on and off.

Any chance for an Intel Arc A770 review for Cyberpunk 2077 latest patch. I heard it got some stealth performance improvements and also the addition of XeSS should be interesting. Thank you
What i found pretty interesting about this video, is that the 4070 is getting at 1440p nearly the exact same Performance, the 4090 gets at 4k
Wich is double the resolution.
4070 1440p native: 17fps
4090 4k native: 19fps
4070 1440p dlss Quality: 40fps
4090 4k DlSS quality: 45fps
4070 1440p DlSS quality + frame gen: 56-75fps
4090 4k DlSS quality + frame gen: 60-75fps
So the 4090 has literally about double and a bit more , the performance of a 4070
(In Adam Jenson's sexy, husky voice) I never asked for this…
Not impressed. Would probably rather play at 4K with normal RT and DLSS Q or FG, what makes less visual or gameplay gimping, not both.
PT is currently more gimmick than what RT was when RTX was released.
Happy to see this. The 4070ti is the full gpu die, but this one it's 80% of the die. And it matters allot as I have a 1440p at 240hz screen…the 200€ are Worthy
1440p+DLSS2+ DLSS3 (Frame Generation) and still under 60fps!! That's a hell of a hurdle for future gpu's to handle. We are going to need 4090+ hardware in the $500 range. Which obviously is not happening soon.
I’m gonna sleep now… wake me up when they make gpu’s that can play rt overdrive 4K at 60fps 😴
its 4k look alike,,.. not native
It is using 12Gb of VRAM, this card is really RAM starved!
The picture difference is so minimal id take the FPS over the RT any day. Though I still hope the next gen on 2-3nm dies will be able to output a true 60 FPS native Full RT at 1440p.
at 7:50 you can see that the card is already VRAM limited at 4K Native and is spilling to the system ram, maybe that's why it's so bad. i think Nvidia should've give the 4070 series 16 gigs of Vram
My eyes must be busted. I can never see much difference between RT on VS off other than massive drops in frame rate. Image doesn't look any better to me.
have you seen the path tracing optimization mod? Runs better than vanilla and looks almost identical.
I didn't think RT Overdrive would be totally playable on a 4070. Interesting.
1440p Native is DLSS quality in 4k. Look at the VRAM – 8GB at 4K. This is what everyone doesnt realise. RT adds 3-4GB on your VRAM depending on resolution.
Its a shame this is not being emphasized. AMD have so much space that is useless anyways because of RT.
Nvidia sponsored titles have no problem playing 4K at 8GB of VRAM usage ( NO RT ). Like Plague Tale and Atomic Heart.
They give you the sickness – bad RT implementation in sponsored titles with inflated VRAM.
They gave you the cure – Cards with double the bus width, double the VRAM, half the efficiency, half the compression, double the power consumption.
Nobody brings up the 192-bit bus anymore. I wonder why. It's always unto the next false alarm with Nvidia.
This is the new Apple vs Android. I not only expect AMD to be cheaper. I expect it to be half the price.
DLLS? Must be a typo, of course. Good, informative video. Thanks Daniel! Cheers 😀
Can you test RTX 4070 vs the RX 6700 XT? They're both 12GB VRAM and consumes around the 200 to 230 Watt ballpark.
Will the Gigabyte B650M DS3H motherboard be able to handle Ryzen 7 7700X well?
here is me playing on an rtx 2080ti at 4k. https://youtu.be/iHeRMgCO_Yw
Nice vid. I can’t really see that much difference with the OD mode to be honest. Even from not RT.
That’s partly because PCDR did a really good job on the fake lighting. Once oath tracing becomes playable on mid-range properly it should take a whole load of work off devs. However, I think we will have to wait for next gen consoles for that to become a standard
What would NVidia do without Cyberpunk2077?
I can't see any difference between RT Overdrive and RT Off except for the reflections in the paddles. Does it really worth 4 times less frame rate?
My 3080 12gb gets min: 18 and max 27 fps in that same test with the same settings. 40fps average with dlss quality and 58fps average with dlss balance. Paired with a 7700x and 64gb ddr5 6000
The framegen looks really bad to me. I got the same feel from FrameGen an when watching low bitrate, bad quality vide. You can not point directly what is wrong with the image (in motion) but you see it is distorted, the same when you look at low bitrate, blocky video. When you make a still image stop then you can point directly at the artifacts.
Wait for when 4060 releases. It cant even handle 1080p with all the software tricks.
I wish you would have tested high settings instead of Ultra to see if that improves Path Tracing performance
We need an RTX4080 Benchmark for this update 👀
that 11,5 gb of vram usage…..ouch……..
Awesome vid again. Thanks a lot Buddy 👌
Hey Daniel, what do you think about the new fsr video on amd's account. Is that an update or just a new ad reminding that amd has fsr
I gonna say a thing rtx cards are made for being played on 768p with rtx on, with dlla max without problems
Can you make comparison of 3060 Ti vs 4070 but in 1080p!
Oh it totally can. You just have to play at 480p with fake frames. Thanks, Nvidia, RT is truly a must have feature.
I often have questions about this stuff and just think to myself "Its okay, Daniel will have a video out in a few days and I can find out."
Will you be doing a GPU buying guide for April? I really liked those videos.
RT Overdrive or Pathtracing for RTX 6090 dude!
More proof ray tracing is a waste of your money if you aren't buying a 4090. In all cases here, it makes more sense to play native resolution without ray tracing. So don't buy a 4070. Buy a 6950xt for $650 and your fps will crush Nvidia's $600 turd of a gpu.
