Katanas are arguably one of the most badass melee weapons of all time, and Cyberpunk 2077 sure seems to share in this philosophy. With 7 Iconic Katana’s as well as a base version, this game definitely has a lot of variation when it comes to one basic sword type.
In this video I attempt to break down and rank all 8 Katanas from worst to best, in order to determine which are better for varying playthroughs. This list is of course my opinion, and I’m more than happy to hear how everybody elses differ from mine. But whether you agree with me or not, I hope this video provides you with a decent overview on this games Machine Guns, and you learn a thing or two along the way…
You can check out more of my cyberpunk content on the channel. I’d specifically recommend my Shotguns Ranked video, if you’re planning on becoming the baddest mf in Night City!

I do wish more enemies would have melee options, playing melee mostly ends up being a spam fest as you stun lock everyone. you’d think with half the people having metal arms they would atleast block with them.
Byakko is a great #1
saying, i'm going to only use the katana at low level can be tricky to say the least lol. flashbangs can help if you can get the craft for em.
MaxTac is a literal joke with my katana build it’s funny
I only have one reason for toting the Satori. 10,000 damage in one hit.
Satori was S tier when you could stack critchance mods and have 100% all day every day.
Scalpel is my fav its just so fun. Pairing with my Sandy was the sell.
Beste Katana . Razor .
I lOVE katanas…in the game and in real life. I have a couple of nice ones. I find it odd that Blades aren't a Body skill rather than Reflex, and it's really too bad that you have to put so much into Reflex even if you are mainly using blades and not guns. Oh well… I haven't made a katana build so far, my V avatars tend to be all-rounders. In my new game however, femme Corpo V will be a netrunning ninja, so Blades are where she's at. While Sandevistan plus a katana is a dynamite combo, I find it a little repetitive after a while, so cyberhacking and sword hacking will offer me the most. For some reason, when I started my current game, the Black Unicorn and the related jackets and t-shirts didn't appear in my stash. That's okay, but seems odd. I never found the Black Unicorn to be all that great a sword, even after upgrading to Legendary. Scalpel is a good weapon and can be acquired pretty early, as you mention. Be careful about putting that guy down howevr…he can be killed in the 'rescue' and the gig fails…no sword. Embarrassing for someone seeking to be a legend in Night City! My femme Corpo V is an elegant blonde, and I think that Cocktail Stick would suit her wonderfully. I never paid much attention to it before, but… I did miss Satori in my first couple of playthroughs, and consequently never thought to use it much. I have used Jinchu-Maru a fair bit, but as you say, any of the katana in this game are so powerful there's not much incentive to single out one. Byakko is indeed powerful, but again, later in the game and I usually find one I like to use already. Which one? Usually the Legendary no-name katana dropped by the Phantom of Night City. It's a challenging fight [although there are ways of making it easy], a fine sword and one you really feel you've earned by taking it, not as a klep or a gift, but after an honest battle.
the witcher 3 got 2 new katanas for the first time in the latest update.
Can you do all SMGs ranked?
Totally off topic – but how cool would a 2077 live series (like Altered Carbon) be?
I prefer the the futuristic ones. That look like katanas. The saws and the ones that look like futuristic edged swords but not the single polymer.
1:30 I feel seen hahaha

“You deny your weapon its purpose.” -Jetstream Sam
My top 2 are satori and byakko, I really just like how cool these look and just how awesome they perform over the others! 🙌🏼 I’ve been trying many ways of using katanas, so far sandevistan seems to be the best way but I haven’t tried berserk yet so could be interesting 🤔
What is the gear (jacket, pants, mask, etc…) that you have on in the thumbnail and at 0:16? It looks so cool! I’m very new to this game and I’m running a katana/handgun build. Thanks! 🙂
i almost agree with these rankings but i just can’t see byakko as number one because too often i have the problem of it lunging at the wrong enemy and screwing up my flow and everything and it happens a lot against groups of enemies
10:23 note for people who missed it like myself! You can get the satori after missing it in the prologue. With double jump and some parkour it's possible to get back up the hotel and into the suite to grab yorinobus gun the going up the stairs to get the katana. I suggest looking up a guide as it's still possible to glitch back into the main lobby using your car in patch 1.61
I have to ask what is the point of rarity tier? Just to have more mods on it? Why is legendary crafting worth using up 18 points in technical spec?
I love these videos especially as I've recently started playing Cyberpunk. Really helpful.
I ran the game with the cocktail stick. It's pink, like my V's hair.
Imo, Satori can have the edge by going berserker build, with two crit chance mods + Beast Mode (double melee damage), thing can reach 70-80k crits
For anyone who missed Satori, you can glitch your way back into the Konpeki Plaza, there's tutorial vids on it.
Scalpel is my favorite. Always thought those scenes were someone attacks so fast that they complete their attack before anyone can react were awesome, and being able to do that in Sandevistan basically makes that come true, so obviously for me the sword optimized for combat in Sandevistan is going to be the best.
I like the cocktail stick for my female V.
Black unicorn was my favourite and I got all 50 upgrades for it giving it a tone of DPS also it looks badass
Hi ! Thank you for this list 🙂 My favorite katana is the … standard model I have crafted in legendary 🙂 But Jinchu Maru is not bad (I feel guilty to take it from Oda).
In hard mode, does it worth to put 20 in cool (I think nseak is useful in early game) ? Now I put 20 in body, but still vulnerable (second heart save my life a lot ^^).
Also, what outfit would be simlar to a Japanese samurai ? or similar to Oda's armor ?
The other thing Byakko has going for is perk synergy. Getting everyone bleeding is great for staying alive in heavy combat situations, and gives you a decent little damage boost as well (not that it's necessary).
Waiting on smg vid
Satori does actually have an (optional) check balcony pointer to it's location now. Which you did not notice since it appears you're playing with your Quest Log ui elements disabled.
pretty obvious that Cyberpunk 2077 encourages the use of katanas
plus they're the most elegant looking….like seriously, the standard khukri look like kitchen knives and the Voodo Boys special variant looks like a badly bent urukhai sword, the machete looks like a mall-ninja wallhanger prop and the knives look like they were designed by a drunk CSGO programmer…makes it really hard for me to carry a melee weapon around when the choice is between looking like a cyberweeb (albeit one with good taste), or looking like i never overgrew my 15yo online FPS addiction
Scalpel & Sandi is the best
Funny you should mention katanas never being in the witcher, it was true until the newest update, samurai armor and katanas were added into the base game
Great video Sam I love the Satori for the crit damage. Can I ask what font you use for your thumbnails? Keep going Sam also very impressive growth over the past few months I hope to be on your level one day.
The Jinchu-Maru was my first favorit Katana. But then I've testing the Byakko and this "special move" blows of my mind😂
I love the Byakko ❤️
I think a Vergil playthrough is one of the best you can do.
Get the Satori as the Yamato
Get throwing Punknives for Mirage Blades
get Gorilla Arms for Beowulf
Get either USS San Die….I mean Sandevistan for doing Judgement Cut Ends or Berserker for Devil Trigger
yeet out the gaming chair and get a white plastic chair
Blast Bury the Light at max volume
bonus points if you take your son's arm for more power.
The best part is everyone will call you V.
V as Vergil.
My favorite is the byakko katana. I like that look and the kombat style.
My second place is scalpel and jinchumaru
There’s a window that you can sneak into to get into clouds. I forgot where though, but it’s possible I was there last night
