Grenades in Cyberpunk 2077 are a seriously underrated piece of equipment! In making this video I have discovered why…
Certain grenades not only have incredibly powerful base damage throughout the game, but they can be used in a number of creative ways like being shot mid-air, to maximise damage to all foes. Please try out the homing frag grenades. Using them is a fun but strange experience which only a game like this could make work in the way that it does…
In this video I attempt to break down and rank all 8 Grenades from worst to best, in order to determine which are better for varying playthroughs. This list is of course my opinion, and I’m more than happy to hear how everybody elses differ from mine. But whether you agree with me or not, I hope this video provides you with a decent overview on this games Grenades, and you learn a thing or two along the way…
You can check out more of my cyberpunk content on the channel. I’d specifically recommend my Pistols Ranked video, if you’re after the widest range of compact guns in Night City. (24 to be exact!) https://youtu.be/E6ZOqq341Kg
Alternatively, if you’re wanting to lean more into netrunning, here’s my overview and ranking for all Quickhacks in the game: https://youtu.be/brFKGlqgh80

Please discount the point I made about the grenade cycle wheel. I am a fool who has seemingly never used the Alt key (I always just cycle weapons with number keys is the reason). You can cycle the grenades by holding Alt, hovering over them and switching across… Anyway, my assessment of the grenades themselves still stands. Please enjoy the rest of the video, and thank you for continuing to point out my foolishness where necessary…
I don't use optical camo just because it makes scopes invisible as well.
you don’t have to go into you inventory smh
The basic grenade is definitely the best companion for a Carnage build! Shoot the enemies, make them fall, and if they're still alive, just send them a grenade as a gift :3
Yes, the Recon grenade seems like a good idea for non-netrunner builds…until you think about it a bit. Well, they can't all be gems. Flashbangs I've never found useful, and it's disappointing when you use the Grenade kill Quickhack on an enemy and they turn out to have one of these non-lethal grenades, Where's the fun in that?
It's true the incendiary and poison gas grenades are relatively ineffective. More powerful grenades just make more sense. Plus, the idea of poison weapons just kind of squick me out. I don't even like using the chemical damage weapons, despite their effectiveness.
EMP grenades I've used fairly often against cyberpsychos and enemy mechs…they do a lot to cut down their strength, esp. if you don't have the Short Circuit Quickhack.
Ozob's Nose is my favorite to use…gonna have to check about needing Edgerunner Artisan to craft it…that's not what I remember, but could be wrong. Quite aside from its strength, the grenade explodes almost on contact and gives enemies no time to dodge the explosion, unlike the other grenades.
The GASH grenade is indeed pretty awesome against grouped enemies…if they stay grouped. I find it's not always sure-fire that happens. The straight-up Frag grenade is an excellent weapon…maybe the best? I'll have to try that Homing Frag…
For a long time I didn't really use grenades, but after a couple of playthroughs investing heavily into the Tech Attribute, I deliberately decided to use them…and found them to be lots of fun. Aside from Ozob's Nose, I found more than enough grenades through pickups that I never had to craft any. Very often I'd find myself selling or disassembling them for crafting materials. Note that you need Frags to convert into Ozob's Nose grenades.
So there is a cycle wheel though it is not smooth, hold down alt and you can change your grenades and healing there. Though it is clunky to the point of being a pain to use, I mostly use it to put away my weapons instead of running around like a lunatic. Great video though man!
I like the standard EMP as my go to all purpose grenade, It's flashy and does good damage. It was handy to have with my run and shotgun build to just split my damage.
Just be careful with Ozob's nose. It has a short fuse
I love the GASH anti-personnel grenade. It feels very futuristic, plus in action it's a cross between a laser light show and a people-sized blender.
On Ps5 you can switch between grenade slot items through the weapon wheel. After moving to that you can press left or right on the d pad to cycle through all your grenades, weapon launch, camo, blood pump. Etc. My ninja has both optic camo and uses bio haz grenades and even has a launch system arm (mostly only because I dont want to have a 4th weapon slot since I swap between two knives and a katana rapidly in combat. I just stumbled on it because the game does not really let you know its a feature!
My most recent build was a Grenadier; solving every problem with dozens of grenades, hostages be damned, storming Arasaka Tower with a cache of 500 Noses. (too bad Smasher has high explosion resistance though, guess he learned from his past mistakes) I didn't have much use for Homing Frags as they have reduced range and longer fuse, there was more damage/AOE potential with Standard Frags, they were useful in the fight against Oda with his Optical Camo. A soon as I caught sight of the distortion effect, switched on the Sandy for what appears to be faster throw rate, then I unloaded as many Homings as time allowed. When the Sandy dropped, there was that brief second of peace before the swarm closed in on him.
Disappointed that I only discovered the Alt wheel swap on my last few days of the playthrough but still fun as hell.
Glad I'm not the only one who sees the glory of the homing frag!
You can also use it to hit enemies who are otherwise completely out of reach due to excellent cover. Because if you overthrow it enough…well…I guess realizing one of those is coming from behind would be even worse than just knowing one is coming in general.
Sam when are you doing a best car video?? Great videos!
Wait… 😅 does he NOT know you can cycle grenades?
Another thing, why not use the engineering perks for buffing grenades to test their potential properly?
The homing frag is pretty much the only grenade I use. You can get the crafting spec early in the game from Wilson. The only thing that sucks is when they run towards you and the grenade follows. I hate it when that happens.
My current playthrough is abusing a sandy alongside Sticky Frags..
Pop sandy, run in, stick 'nades onto all enemies, then stand back as the sandy runs out and watch as the enemies turn into Tjajkovskij 's 1812 Overture..
Pure evil and hillarious at the same time
there is a other menu press tab
I have a build using grenades and stealth. When stealth is ruined I always have 300+ grenades to just chuck. Actually pretty fun build
Hoping we get the knives video next! Doing a ninja build
Something more about the flash grenade, it triggers the bonus on hit from "stunned target" like the perks that give you 50% more damage on stunned ennemies with blunt weapons. You can stun a whole room and zoom across everyone one hit everything with a pipe
Note: Incendiary, Biohaz and EMP Grenades are Non-Lethal DMG grenades, which can be helpful in some situations.
And yes, the one singular slot is overused, such is the fate of games infected by consolitis, be thankful this is but a mild case.
Kind of feel bad for Placide being in an endless cycle of dodging your grenade throw and/or bullets only to be caught in the explosion of the grenade as it explodes! XD
Personally, I like the EMP and Frag more than the other grenades.
Both of them can crit, and are easy to craft (frags being the easier of the two)
The antipersonnel and Ozob's Nose grenades just takes too much material to craft for what it's worth.
It's really sad to see that the incendiary and biohazard grenades do so little damage….
It is a annoying. Like to me, optical camo is so nice to have, it makes most grenades feel completely unnecessary.
There is a equipment cycle wheel, on console you just hold the weapon cycle button to bring it up. Figured that one out on release day.
I think flash bangs are great for sword builds
Best use for incendiaries is with 5/0
I feel like the projectile launcher arms should be in this list … Probably near the bottom, but still…
*ranks Ozob's Nose lower down the list because of the resources required to craft it*
Me: "Hehe item duplication glitch go brrrrr."
Another great video from Cyberpunk's best YouTuber…or YouTube's best Cyberpunk…🤣🤣
The flash grenade is actually insanely useful. You craft and disasseble for like 20 mins to get to level 20 crafting
As a man of Science (and self torture in monotonous tasks) I actually have found a middle ground for berserk and Stealth. Spread as
Body 14 (GO-RILL-A)
Ref 14 (Int dump, anyone with 14 would a] have a cyberdeck and b] use the Contagion quick hack over Biohaz [Plague is 14 int perk])
20 tech
20 Cool
Stealth revolves around thrown knives, Stealthy Biohaz, and Jeepers Creepers with Satori (which should slap thanks to field technician and Cutting edge) also, what doors. 20 in body and Tech
Combat results in more Biohaz, chuck a few, pop berserk when needed (Moore Tech, unfortunately) Krez, dodge with Satori, defensive offense (obviously flight of the sparrow, two beserk crit chance mods, 11 perks into Merciless, 50% crit chance.) for stragglers.
You can also use Oda’s blade (always forget it since I don’t use it, I call it chunchunmaru) since it’s the 100% krez crit.
Might be on the level or more fun than the Bat and Nades build, but it’s a very similar combat loop. So those characters aren’t getting to end game very quickly.
Still glad to share an odd job build that exemplifies two underused parts of Cyberpunk’s kit!
As always though, great video, always looking forward to the next one! Cheers!
As someone who always plays Netrunner – There are grenades in Cyberpunk?
hold Y button and you can switch grenades
What’s stronger? Military grade equipment or some guys nose?
Edit: this makes me want to play with only grenades now
I rescued Takemaru from the hotel using only anti personal grenade, on very hard difficulty, it was too easy
You can use the wheel, I use optical camo and grenades all the time,
I pop camo then sandy then run in for 15 seconds throwing grenades everywhere
