Machine Guns Ranked Worst to Best in Cyberpunk 2077

Despite being the least numerous gun type in Cyberpunk 2077, Machine Guns still pack one hell of a punch. From the unstashable but highly violent MK.31 HMG, to the faster firing Defender LMG, this games larger machine guns are certainly not something to lightly pass up!

In this video I attempt to break down and rank all 3 HMG/LMGs from worst to best, in order to determine which are better for varying playthroughs. This list is of course my opinion, and I’m more than happy to hear how everybody elses differ from mine. But whether you agree with me or not, I hope this video provides you with a decent overview on this games Machine Guns, and you learn a thing or two along the way…

You can check out more of my cyberpunk content on the channel. I’d specifically recommend my Shotguns Ranked video, if you’re planning on becoming the baddest mf in Night City!

  1. The M2067 Defender is a beast both for ricochet and also as carrier for crit-based Short Circuits even if it has no muzzle slot to boost ricochet damage or crit chance. If you reload the auto-save that is created when you talk to a weapon vendor you have the chance to get special bonuses that are usually only available on found weapons. The best ones for power weapons are "Eliminates vertical recoil while aiming" and "Reduces weapon draw time by half, Increases damage by 20%". Getting a legendary M2067 Defender with one of these bonuses and max amount of slots was well worth my time spend on reloading at the vendor.

  2. I’m a Defender guy myself. Last playthrough I gorilla fisted my way into the body requirement to tote that bad boy about, and paired with my 20 InT Legendary Short Circuit it got real ugly real fast for anyone whom offended my Vs delicate sensibilities. They soon became electric slime puddles.
Funny you mention Terminator builds. Mine is carrying a Defender, a Igla (until
v gets Bloody Maria) and using Mantis blades. Rides Jackie’s tuned arch.

  3. Cdpr obviously doesn't care if you're god-like OP…so I definitely think we need more LMGs. Legendary crafting specs and tech/smart varieties. I'd also like to see an HMG that you could keep in your inventory. With penalties like not being able to equip anything else, or something

  4. Oh! I learned something for these videos! So, some bosses drop randomized weapons of a preset rarity and specific class. For example, Sasquatch is able to drop any Power pistol, guaranteed to be Legendary rarity. So you can save and reroll her loot to fish for rare or difficult to obtain pistols! Adam Smasher is guaranteed to drop a legendary power shotgun; he dropped the first legendary Pozhar with mod slots I've ever seen on my last run, which was depressing cuz it's my favorite shotgun in the game. I'm sure there are other bosses and cyberpsychos that drop loot in a similar manner!

  5. Aired out Arasaka Tower in Devil ending with HMG. It was insane, especially since my first playthrough was kinda gimmicky Mantis Blades/netrunner build. Berserk machine gun/Gorilla fists is crazy powerful.

  6. This being the only weapon type without an iconic variant or any real variety made annihilation kinda bland until I focused on a shot gun playthrough instead, and having to worry about accidentally disassembling it when clearing my inventory got annoying.
When compared to what you can do with the assault tree a LMK doesn't really offer anything better, if you wanna do a ricochet+short circuit crit build you're better off using Problem Solver that has almost double the fire rate of Defender (8.55 shots per sec from Defender vs 15.83 from Problem Solver) and any enemy around you will melt as soon as you look in their general direction

  7. For getting started in a fresh playthrough with LMGs, you can pick up a defender in All Foods, in the royce bossfight area (on a shelf). So you can start using them before the Heist even.

  8. Thing is, the fact we have only two LMG and no uniques in the ENTIRE game is just sad. Hope that DLC will at least try to adjust the amount of weaponry of this kind.

  9. My Nomad Enforcer would certainly be very happy about a friggin' Lego-Defender spec, heck, even an epic one would be appreciated. Being stuck on rare quality until you hit 50, so the purchase of the legendary defender makes sense, is annoying. The MA70HB has to be bought or found in random loot (not sure if that is even implemented) which disqualifies it in my book. The leveling/crafting/upgrading system is absolute BS anyways and having to upgrade every couple of levels is a chore, even when there are specs to get your hands on epic/lego items.
I know, the "xyz ranked" is for the Lv50 endgame… which to me is kinda always a facepalm worthy idiocy, when you are NOT max level for most of the playtime, unless you artificially rectify that. So for me it is more or less "What weapon can I get my hands on reliably during the WHOLE of the game without too much effort, so I can update it regugarly?" when I start a new character. Buying all the stuff at level 50 and be ridiculously overpowered (as it should be) is done in half, maybe a full hour, tops. Meanwhile I'm 20-30+ hours into my playthrough… no, I don't powerlevel all too much.

  10. When i think of Lmgs in cyberpunk i definetly wish there were more, also would like for Hmg to be pickable. In earlier versions of game it was at least possible to place it in trunk/stash

  11. Hey Sam! Love the content, watched the whole series so far! Quick question, Where do you get the neon blue skin for the MA70 HB LMG, that you are using in the thumbnail and video? Is it a modded color variant? The wiki has nothing on color variants for the gun.

  12. Did an annihilation build myself after watching Cyberpunk Edgerunners, I may or may not have found a certain characters shotgun, and emptied said shotguns chemical buckshot rounds into the borgged out face of a certain head of Arasaka security. Till there was no face left.

  13. I once amused myself by doing an HMG playthrough. Bound the reload key to the console command for spawning a fresh one in my hands and never used another weapon other than in the scripted sequences where you have to. Do I recommend the experience? No. But I sure did laugh like the TF2 Heavy Weapons Guy more than once, and may at points have forgotten that I wasn't in fact an Adeptus Astartes with a heavy bolter.

  14. In my opinion LMG/HMG should remain rare in the game mainly because, as far as I can recall, all heavy weapons in the TTRPG Cyberpunk 2020 warranted Max Tac getting called, although this could be the guy that ran our groups games in CP2020 did not want us to have any heavy weapons.

My favorite LMG is the Defender mainly because I have never encountered the new one.

  15. A few patches ago it used to be possible to store the hmg's in your stash by carrying one and accessing you stash via your cars trunk. I used to make a point of rounding up all the turrets in a given base and stashing them in a pickup truck for a rainy day.

  16. Always glad to see another video my man! My issue with h/lmg is it feels plastered on, but in cases where I spec into some annihilation, it can be a head cannon of finding an lmg, and picking it up in a dense opposition fight. I feel like personally it doesn’t fit well with the same speed perks that make shotguns grand. Or that it should dip into some assault perks ( Mainly Stoic Savage/ Trench perks)

  17. I believe its a untapped potential. I'm sorry but using a cybernetic tank body just to wield regular sized shotguns is laughable. We need MORE machine guns to fufiill our terminator power fantasies.

  18. Recoil can be compensated with various ways, like muzzle attachments, a recoil brace which is essentially just like a car suspention, the massive weight of the weapon itself ect.
So this can be absolutely realistic. Unlikely, but possible. Also possible that the projectiles are low-pressure but with a high-explosive tip.
Would result in a devastating weapon but low recoil. Can't do riccochet then though.

  19. It sucks that LMGs got so little love. I did a playthrough recently with a Shotgun/LMG, Berserk and Cold Blood build, and I loved being able to speed around with an LMG that fires as fast as an SMG (dismemberment perks give you fire rate to shotguns and LMGs, its insane!) . Sadly, theres no Iconic LMGs in the game, and apparently you cant get Epic or Legendary crafting specs for them legitimately. They couldve added in a few, like a never ending magazine but slow fire rate for the MA70, or even added in Rebecca's LMG from Edgerunner to go along side her GUTS! shotgun, since almost all the perks that effect shotguns also effect LMGs. I just wish there was more that could be done with em 🙁

  20. Thanks for the content Sam. I hope that your Hogwarts content will be useful to someone who's never played a Harry Potter Game, never seen a Movie and never read one of the Novels. If you approach it like you have Cyberpunk (i.e. not expecting people to have played the paper RPG prequel)
But then maybe knowing nothing about it maybe I might get more out of it by not watching any content.. but then I'd just be guessing if I want to buy it or not. I might like it, hard to be sure.. I'm still not sure about that New Monster Hunter Game either simply as I don't feel I've seen enough to see if it's worth my time to play it or not.

Hogwarts has my curiosity though, and I will be playing Starfield when ever it eventually shows up.

  21. This games lack of heavy weapons sucks so much, it’s funny there are logos for grenade launchers on enemy’s if they are heavy gunner yet they are not present but only in the lore. I would love to see the railguns and laser guns that are in the lore that supposedly are hyper rare weapons only the best of the best could wield. I think that a smart lmg like the one from aliens, imagine just locking on to a group of enemy’s with auto aim such a missed opportunity.
