Remember guys, it's just a theory… We'll come back to this video in a few years and see how much was correct though 🙂
I want V to be a force of nature, hunting us, a total nigthmare to fight agains and depending of your choices is a Body punching and shongun Powerhouse, a Reflex speed demon off the blades and pistos, or a Inteligence and absolute terrifiying one shot killing netrunner, but you could make him/her join your cause or at best not kill you if you do things right, something like Jetstream Sam mixed with Mister X of Resident Evil 2 but, we get more encounters
One can dream…
What would be the narrative advantage for V not dying? I feel like doing that defeats the entire purpose of the game which can only degrade the story of future games. Plus it highly restricts subsequent games story to V’s continuing story.
Most people would have liked if David Martinez lived however Netrunners would have been worse for it.
I’d like to play with a new character dealing with new problems and hearing about how badass the merc V was through other characters and shards. Kind of like David Martinez….
As much as I think it's possible for v to survive I think let her herst maybe include the ending as to change a woirld a little depending on it, but the story of V is made end in that one game the same as David's stroy is finnished in edgerunners. Let's do another character, it'll be better
I doubt V will return, but references and some sort of cameo could happen. Still hope they survive, of course
Having V as the main protagonist again would give the sequel the same kind of narrative depth and feeling of connection that Geralt enjoys in the Witcher series. So, it would make a lot of sense to keep V on as the lead. If the sequel's story moves to a different location (city) then having V again would provide continuity between the two games as well.
V never started out to stay some low level merc and i believe she/he refuses to die like a normal citizen.
I'd take some hail mary long shot procedure to retain their natural but nerfed tech savvy body than to live a life of mediocrity. It would be disrespectful to he/him and to Jackie.
Doesn't matter if Blue Eyes, Biotechnica, Arasaka that offers us the solution, I will take it and have the bio chip counter act any control program back door they might try to juke us with..
I may be alone in this, but I think it would be cooler to play as a new protagonist and get the chance to run into V in Project Orion. Maybe they could allow you to tranfer your save file, like in the Mass Effect Trilogy, and they use the information from that to rebuild your V accuarately in terms of appearance as well as installed Cyberware and character build (attributes, perks).
I just think it would be so cool to see V from the perspective of another person, so we can witness the person that killed Adam Smasher in all their glory. Maybe V could even turn into a sort of companion or even an enemy, if you decide to challenge them. In that case, the boss fight should either be incredibly difficult or just straight up unwinnable, just to hammer home that V is the real deal in terms of being a legendary merc.
I know this is a little far fetched, but I really enjoyed the small section of the temperance path, where you storm Arasaka Tower with Rogue and Weyland and where you control Johnny inside Mikoshi. It was so cool to talk to my version of V from Johnny's perspective, see them move around and respond without any of my input. Maybe it sounds cooler than it actually would be, but I would love to see them implement something like that into Project Orion, instead of just keeping V as the protagonist.
I only see it fit for V to become Afterlife legend in any ending tbh. Let Orion’s protagonist bring a new story with them, and hope V at least gets a good time they deserve for all it’s worth.
The star ending as by far, my favorite. Riding off into the sunset with my girl Panam!
I would love to see V become the new Adam Smasher, but captive against his/her will in a total cybernetic body, a new Arasaka weapon. Something like Tron's roll in the last movie.
Imagine a future Night City, Arasaka's new Big Dog is this mysterious cyborg, with rumors of who he/she used to be.
I like to look at each ending more or less as pieces of a puzzle rather than individual puzzles themselves. In "The Sun," Mr. Blue Eyes claims that various hatches open during the Arasaka raid that allow his people to capture various Arasaka assets. Provided he does, in fact, work for Night Corp, then this so-called "hatch" could be the same one V and the Aldecaldos use to infiltrate Arasaka Tower in "The Star" (which was a Night Corp tunnel). Regardless of whether or not V chooses to raid Arasaka Tower, the tunnel still exists ready to be used.
With this kind of thought process in mind, what can we assume is a canon event regardless of V's fate?
I feel how much this game keeps hammering in that V will die sooner or later, i dont think V will be brought back. This game is all about accepting the fact that life will end, so its all about how you are remembered, which is why i feel that dont fear the reaper and the star are the best endings. You either become the greatest solo ever, eclipsing Blackhand, Smasher, Weyland, all of them, or you get the greatest family in the Aldecaldos. In both ways, you will be long remembered. I feel like the tower ending eccentuates this even more. You can go back to a normal life, but you have to give everything that made you special, you will be just another face in the crowd and you wont be remembered by many, especially after you dissapeared for 2 years. The story has to end at some point and it can be hard to accept that.
Cool theories, still. Thanks for the vids, Sam
They want to shake up the life paths in the sequel, because we saw very little of it beyond the start and certain conversation-choices. But looking at who CDPR partnered with and how little their customers means (with Vanguard-money), I’m having doubts the sequel will be any good. If it turns out to be good, that would be a positive surprise. If it turns into a joke like ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the justice league’ or ‘Saints Row 4’, well, at least I can just walk away not feeling any loss.
In CP2077 the life paths are Street Kid, Nomad and Corpo. If V does come back for Orion I'm betting the life paths will be Devil, Tower, Temperance, Sun, and Star.
OMG! Now that you mentioned it, I just came to realize that V's 2-year "coma" actually being serving NUSA with memory wipe is actually deceptively plausable. One of the French netrunners in Phantom Liberty did store memory on external devices, and got a few years of memory stolen, so we know it is doable in-universe. Also, on the other side of the 4th wall, it is something happened in the Witcher series: both Geralt and Yen were coerced into serving the Wild Hunt at a time, and got memory wiped when their service comes to an end. Geralt recalls that he just remember his time with the Hunt as a blur, then he "appeared in front of Kaer Morhen". So it is possible that CDPR can take a single page out of that book.
(And for those who are interested, Phantom Liberty shares a few overarching plot points with Heart of Stone, a Witcher 3 DLC. Both stories involves a highly capable, morally gray, and tragic individual (Olgierd & Songbird) on the run from an exremely powerful entity (Gunter O' Dimm & NUSA), which in turn enlisted the player character (Geralt & V)'s help to "catch" the individual. Both also have a sigular key decision close to the conclusion regarding whose side to take. So if CDPR does decide to take a page out of the Witcher, it probably will not be the first time.)
And I really wished that Orion will be a continuation of V's story, and 2077's Endings become the new lifepaths. I imagine this will be a multi-faction free-for-all involving different human
and AIgroups, and 2077's ending decides which side V is on at the beginning: Arasaka (Devil), NUSA (Tower), Aldocaldo (Star), Mr. Blue-eye (Sun & Don't Fear the Reaper), or Alt (Temperance). And during the course of the story, V may stay loyal to their original faction, or "defect" to another. Maybe it will be something like Fallout: New Vegas (Courier 6 is hired by Mr. House, but can eventually continue serving him, or go for the other three major endings in NCR, Legion or independence.)?So…
Isn't it possible for Nightcorp to just take V's engram and use it no matter what ending you choose? It would be the easiest path to tie things together. Orion could be placed in more distant future so that most V's contacts aren't around and the endings won't affect much.
About the suicide ending:
You fail to take into account another factor: The distance from which the bullet is fired. Headshot wounds are survivable if you receive one from a distance. In the event you're using a weapon from up close, the hot gases leak out of the barrel into the gunshot wound. There, they superheat the tissue, causing it to expand and causing massive internal damage, not comparable to the other scenario.
There is little to no chance at coming back from this.
Great Video tho!
I like the idea of V coming back as a bio-chip construct, but the new PC is a 'volunteer' (Orion) whos backstory can be determined by which ending you picked in 2077 and who lets V take control of their body while they get partitioned as the voice in V's head. Almost exactly like how V can give Johnny control for Temperance (or the reverse of the two-bodies guy you can box) but the partition is stable so V and Orion can coinhabit safely.
You get to play as V again, you get a new 'Johnny' as a ride-along character with the added bonus of you getting to pick their appearance because you (as V) are the one using their body.
I'd like a plot where Johnny took our body and ended up helping the next protagonist, and in some way he ends up with an engram of V in his head.
"Wake the fuck up douchebag, your conscience is back" – V
I think its almost certain that V will remain the protagonist of the main cyberpunk series. There are too many endings that leave you with the hope that you will sort out your brain cancer.
I really do hope they use these endings to continue with V story in the next game. I don't want to play as another character when we spent so much time with V and current crew.
A new story, a new protagonist, new grim endings.
Seems more par for the course with the setting.
Hopefully there will be a few less bugs on release next time though.
I agree with the idea, that V could survive Cyberpunk's endings with a healthy dose of "what if" and future-tech(TM).
But even though I would love to play as V in a sequel, carrying V and the consequences of each players descision over into the sequel in a satisfying way introduces substantial difficulties, which probably can not addressed without leaving many players disappointed. It is easier to start with a fresh character and perhaps even in a new location.
Alt Cunningham and Rache Bartmoss both fled into the net. Alt specifically developed the tech to do it, which is the original program soulkiller is based on. I wonder if after going down the path of phantom liberty and having combat implants be potentially lethal to use, V could get into contact with Alt to have their untangled psyche transfered to a full body conversion and bypass the need for organic nervous systems given he is very resistant to cyberpsychosis, being able to shoulder significantly more cyberware than most, just like smasher.
I see that a lot of cyberpunk players don't understand one thing: V will die in any ending, right when we enter the mikoshi, because biochip is imortallity only for others, it is not a life of V, it is just simulation, a bunch of algorithms, hope everybody will understand what I mean, cuz my English isn't great
Edit: just remembered about dlc ending, this is the only one, where V will really live, not just simulate a life for spectators
They could write paths that no matter V's choices it ends up on the same path to Mr. Blue eyes. No matter the decisions we made he guided us to him. Brings up a real dark idea of what a God could be, freedom of choice and are we ever really in control or even if we cut the strings we are still a puppet to a higher power.
At around 19:50 you mentioned that two superpowers had failed to save V. Yet you also speculated in those other endings V can actually be cured, just that the corps (and NUSA) chose not to save V outright, but rather keeping V in a state for their own nefarious purposes. I'd like to think that V can be cured, it being just a matter of having the resources, and that the Aldecados will eventually save V.
I'm hoping that in Orion we find that V completed the Space heist "for a second chance at life" and left the city with panam/judy/river. Just a legendary name reinforced by whispers and rumors. I know night city doesn't have good endings but I think we the player deserve that.
If we're talking about a Cyberpunk sequel, in which V comes back in different ways depending on the ending of the first game. A nice twist to the Path of Least Resistance ending, would be that being the only ending that brings back Jackie. Maybe through some miraculous and unknown circumstance, Arasaka took V's body, and put Jackie into it.
I’d love a new game with a new character, but damn I don’t know if I can say goodbye to V.
Call me a Fool if you wish, but sticking with Arasaka for me is existing. Yes, they will look at you as an asset, but all this sense of power that Arasaka is associated with, is all worth to me. I also love the whole grim aesthetics of corpo. As Jackie said: "You can kick the rat out of the corpo, but you can't kick the corpo out of the rat."
We know that full body replacement as is engram recording…..so an additional copy existing is possible to be stuck on a similar device and as said stuck into a neutral body (as per Helman's plan) or if you read Black Dog in Cyberpunk Red and think Angel = Alt then a synthetic cloned body. However i also have a few points. My opinions on some of the endings
1: Devil ….if you are still seeing the tarot images, you are still under the control of the biochip (as that is why you are seeing them in the first place). So is this not just result of Johnny (in his way of showing you his version of hell) dealing with V whilst the nanovirus in the chip finishes the job Dex started with a bullet to your head.
2: Tower…. As i see it 2 options- I what Ried says is true you have a choice to work for the FIA as an 'analysis' was offered or alternatively become a Fixer yourself. There are "drawbacks" as everyone thinks your dead however as you are a legend as you know what i takes from experience; and looking at Padre and Wakakko its not what you are but what you know that counts.
3: Temperance…Ok this is scary in so many ways and is where I think Orion could go.
Johnny as V my be wiser than he was in 2023 but he is still Johhny and you just gave him a "new" cover to restart his anti-corporate war. He knows a lot of peoples secrets ( like Mr Blue eyes and his patsy Jefferson etc) )and he has you stack all your gear cash and heaps of high powered cyberwar at his disposal. He can also probably find "AI Alt" when he needs that resource and she is no fan of the corporations either.
We know Corporate war six is on the horzon and that gives them "Opportunities" to help Arisaka and Millitech destroy each other and take some of their allies with them. Johnny has no quarms about using tactical nukes and with your tech and "AI Alt" by his side he can break into almost any facility either side has. In this timeline there is no Saburo now and if you killed off So-Mi in Phantom Liberty, Myers is somewhat compromised in her response and you have some special and extremely nasty "blackwall tech" at your disposal.
So I think this is a good start for Cyberpunk Orion, but you wont be Johnny you will be one of his agents and it will be "The 6th Corporate War"
I want V as a fixer
Is there any evidence to suggest that Mr. Blue Eyes is Mr. Richard Night himself?
Mr. Night was bold to create Night City as an independent sovereignty surrounded by NUSA and other, much larger territories. Might be why Mr. BB shows no doubt that V will be able to pull off the “impossible.”
It would also be poetic for Mr. Night to reprise his leadership of Night Corp. Mr. Night likens V’s Crystal Palace heist to Icarus flying toward the sun. In Greek mythology, Icarus’s father was Daedalus, who worked on automatons that could house a person’s spirit, potentially indefinitely extending his own life—not too unlike Mr. Blue Eyes’s true persona hopping from body to body.
In the Devil ending. We took out Adam, so perhaps they want us to go full borg and replace Adam.
Another thought for the Tower ending, assuming I haven't missunderstood anything V can not use Cyberware, but if I remember correcty there exits at least one other form of Artifical enhanchments, Bioware, and while those wouldn't be as strong as cyberware for more or less obvious reasons at least one Legend has gotten his status with minimal Cyberware, a bit of Bioware and skill alone!
So while a "The Tower V" would probably have major deficits it would still be possible to play as a V purely based on Skills and Biomods.
