I might can help some people out. I did this with three different characters now. All level 60 and I am also on Series X.
If the guy doesn't have a shard on him, happened to me a couple of times, reload a save file where you are pretty far from him. Around 200 meters from the fast travel point. This will reset his inventory when you zero him. That works reliably but is still RNG depended. It has nothing to do with your level or already existing Cyberware capacity. I checked.
If the floating bag doesn't work I found the reason why. Its related to your movement speed. If you loot everything besides the skill shard make sure you are fast when running to the sign and back. If you are fast this 100% works. I can confidently say this is the main reason why it doesn't work. Again I tried this a lot.
For the chooms concerned about the edgerunners perk you have to math this out a little bit. For me the sweet spot was 411 Cyberware capacity to install everything I wanted but keep my 5% fury chance. Of course if you are not concerned with this perk you can keep going as much as you like. But the perk gives you a 50% more critical damage which in my opinion is to good to pass on. But you do you.
This should fix all problems you have. Thanks again for this amazing video and I hope I can contribute a little bit to it for the people who struggle. Sat down for like five hours and tried almost everything you couls do related to this glitch. It shouls troubleshoot everything people encounter.

Worked the first time. Sweet. Was stuck at 292 for at least a dozen levels and at 55 I see exactly the cyberware I want but I can't wear it. This will get me enough maybe get to 400 and stop. BEWARE: You will notice your weight going up about 4 lbs each run. Even if you break down the katana, it doesn't matter. The problem is there are more katanas in your inventory, you just can't see them. I usually run around with about 110 lbs on me. I hit 292 and had to down a drink so I could run and sell gear. I deleted the katana, yet my weight still was high, at 287. So when I get to the gun vendor and looked in my knives section, there are another 30 katanas. Be ever mindful of that because you can't break them down but they do add weight. I didn't try a drop box to see if I could sell them there too. The other items that drop also do the same thing but at least they don't add as much weight as the katanas. After selling them, my weight went back down to 130 lbs. But if you are like me, I like to have a tidy inventory, not see 30 of one blade mod.
I cannot, for the life of me, get this to work. The bag never respawns the loot. What am I missing?
Had first kill carry, loaded and killed 2 dozen times and no more capacity item. First time I instant killed him, now he gets invulnerable flashbangs me and resets to full health after short time?
I killed him over a dozen times and not once did he drop the shard..
He doesn’t have a shard did I do something wrong

Thanks, did it on the second try. And for someone who need, quick save after throw the man into the car trunk. If it not work, f9 to load and do it again.

Doesnt work for me. He doesnt drop a cyberware capacaty shard. Killed him about 15 times.
Thanks pal, got it on the first try. But for me the shard dropped on a random enemie outside guarding this building
If you want to abuse a glitch it's far easier and better to just install a mod that allows you to have max cyberware or maybe unlimited cyberware capacity shards… maybe this is useful if it works on consoles, but for PC is just meh
He doesn't always drop capacity shards… spent a hour farming him to no avail
Do you need to be over level 40 to do this? I keep on trying but I never get a capacity shard.
PLEASE READ: Just so everyone knows the shards are not bugged, if you are at level 320 cyberwear, even if you remove the edge runner and other added capacity perks you will be locked out from getting more shards. You have to have both cyberware capacity perks activated and be below 320. Once the game already knows you're at the limit, it won't let you receive anymore shards, even from any guaranteed drops. I had to re-roll my save to where I was under 320 and then it worked perfectly fine for me and now my capacity is at 1100. Also you don't have to run super far from the bag You just have to walk or dash backwards until you see it disappear and then you can go right back to it and this will save you so much time
Update 2.01 – this character no longer carries any shards

Honestly getting maxed out was fun to grind but after maxing out and playing dlc I deleted the game it just doesn’t have much replay value for me

No issues getting the shard to drop from dude however the bag wouldn't respawn no matter what until I took the advice of the people below and looted the weapon before dumping in trunk and it worked first try. Thanks chooms!
How much capaticity is too much? 500? 1000?
Didn't work even on the third time and everytime had other things so i saved it right. Unfortunately I don't have the time to do it 2 hours. 😅

I can’t seem to get a shard to spawn on him I’ve done it several times and can see that his drops are changing but still no shard
